It's 2024 and although this is a niche requirement, living room PC's are becoming common place. This is the only video I have found to help my understand how to use my mini PC with the my AV Receiver do that I get true surround sound. Thank you sir. I cannot find any other video that talks about getting sound over HDMI from a PC to work with an AV receiver.

That's a great video, I learned a lot of that through trial and error, it was a pain.
I do have a big problem now, though and Im' really lost. Do you think you could help me?
    Here's the issue:
I have movies on my PC that I wanna watch on HDR 4k, while still having HD audio as well. My receiver is an old one, (DENON 3310Ci, so no HDR nor 4k), hence the "HDMI out" cable is a no go, since I wouldn't even get 4k.
What I do then? I connect a HDMI a GPU from my GPU's HDMI 1 port to my HDR 4k TV, and another HDMI cable from my GPU's HDMI 2 port to my receiver, using a video player configured to send pass-through audio via HDMI.
However, suddenly that stopped working. When I replaced an older TV with this new one, it still worked, but for some reason I had to disconnect the "HDMI out" cable from my receiver to be able to get any audio at all. Now I cant't even do that anymore, because if I disconnect the "HDMI out" cable, my PC stops recognizing the receiver (even though the "HDMI in" is connected to it).
And once my PC doesn't recognize the receiver, I obviously can't set the receiver as an audio source. Any thoughts that could help me? I'm pretty frustrated rn.

Try connecting an old monitor to your receiver's HDMI out. I had this issue and it fixed it. I found once it connects as is working you can shut off the monitor. But just remember it can come back. With my Denon it works as a menu screen for the receiver too. Makes navigating the receiver menus a lot easier.

Hi is it possible to connect a Laptop to AV receiver with HDMI from there to a projector for Dolby Atmos, DTX etc ? If we play video files with this audio formats can we get in AV receiver from a PC and is there is any quality affect for audio or video ?

This is basically how I am set up. I go from my computer through HDMI to my AV receiver the from the receiver I go to a second monitor. Then I can select different sound modes to the one I think sounds best. There should be no quality issues, other than the limitations of the equipment being used.

@@avinashss2207 Your projector is really just a monitor as far as the laptop is concerned. You just have to set up your AV receiver correctly to which format you want to listen to. So the problem is not the computer in terms of it being HDCP compliant, the receiver has to be I suppose.
But if that be the case, why does my blue-ray connects to the receiver ( says nothing on its hdmi ouput hdcp) and plays on the 4K TV?
If I hook up the computer to the receiver, I get nothing on the 4k TV.
Also the sound from the blue-ray goes through the hdmi output on the receiver but the streaming media from the TV plays through the optical. I have the setting on the TV on Auto for audio output so it choose which cable works best.
And just because the audio on the bluray goes through the HDMI doesn't mean a whole lot. The streaming high defintion from the TV through the optical is far superior than the blue ray audio through the hdmi.
The computer has no trouble hooking up direclty to the TV, however neither the sound nor the video come close in comparison to the streaming channels on the TV.
I see it by playing UA-cam, through the TV, it is a totally different ball game than playing it through the computer.
    Receiver: Denon AVR-1612.
So I am upgrading to Onkyo TX-NR6100 and see what happens.
The computer does connect through the receiver if I connect the receiver to FHD TV but not if I connect the receiver to 4K TV.
So I take it that it is the receiver the issue and not the computer. There is no such thing as 4K computer or HDCP computer compliant.

A have the AV receiver Yamaha and there is about 20-30ms latency - even though I use analog audio input without any DSP.
The current connection is - from PC via HDMI to TV (the receiver does not support 4k 120Hz (only 60p)).
The TV is connected via HDMI ARC to the receiver.

Connect your tv to your gpu's second hdmi port (connect hdmi 1 port to avr), so you dont have imput lag on your tv, if you have display port on your gpu , use passive adaptor to covert hdmi , in this way you can use 2011 avr (that only support 1080p 24 hz output) with 8k 144hz tv at the same time

On mine I use HDMI 2 and it is coupled with the BLU-ray player source. So when I want to hear what is coming out of my computer I have to select the Blu-ray Player on my Denon Receiver.

Better is relative. For me it wouldn't have been as I had a lot of my AV equipment already. It also depends on what your going to use it for. I use my system for a lot of music. If You are just using it for Games and UA-cam videos the Logitech Z906 would work just fine. But if you are really picky about your sound than an AV system is the way to go.

Hello sir. Thank you for sharing your method. I have a question if you don't mind answering as I really can't find anyone else on the internet talking about this. 🙏
I've seen a lot of people on the internet complaining when they gaming with HDMI to AV receiver, the receiver only outputs stereo sound and they won't see the 5.1 option in Windows sound settings. While playing DTSHD videos works fine. Some people guess it might because the game decodes the sound to stereo within it already, so you only get stereo signal output. Have you had this problem sir, or the games work fine with HDMI 5.1?

    • @ellsworth1956

My Receiver has various outputs ( Sound Modes) available the number of Channels out depends on what I select. HDMI can do a lot of channels the total number depends on which version of HDMI. It also depends on how well the game integrates sound into the gaming environment.

    • @TurboLoveTrain
      @TurboLoveTrain 4 місяці тому

HDR is tied to the graphics card and display you are using. The HDR configuration in widows 11 isn't straightforward and you have to make sure HDR is supported and enabled on your display or it won't work. HDR has no impact on the audio channels even if you're using HDMI for audio and video over the same cable. I have two displays on my graphics card and one is HDR and the other is not because only one display supports HDR. I'm running 7.1 audio totally separate from my graphics--different cables, separate decoder.
