Funny you mention the Switch being an undead console. Undead consoles are a real thing in the gaming sphere, often called "zombie systems" it's when a console continues to get support and games from a dedicated community long after its publishers discontinued it. Notable Zombie Systems include: • Atari 2600 • Vectrex • NES • Genesis • PlayStation • Dreamcast • Wii • Wii U • Gameboy
Oh, yeah. I recall semi-recently learning about the homebrew Gameboy community, with people making new games (free and paid) that can be played on the Gameboy’s software.
Yeah that’s true! Like just dance 2020 got released for the Wii! I saw it in stores and had to do a double take! Pretty sure it was the last Wii game ever made cause I saw a listing for it on eBay for like 100 bucks plus postage! I found out they made a Wii version to celebrate 10 years of just dance! It was a weird feeling seeing it next to PS5 games! Lol
I connect with these consoles so much because they represent such distinct phases of my life, and it definitely feels like a new chapter will be starting soon. And man the Wii vibes of the new animation style match your energy so well
I remember 8 year old me was super happy to have saved up 280 bucks to buy a used Nintendo Switch on EBay! I love this console so much, can't wait for the successor.
Oh man, I feel old - I was 20 and attending technical university by the time the Switch came out. Still feels like yesterday in a way, and it feels unreal that starting next year the XBOX 360 will technically be a retro console. Your generation of gamers have it both better and worse than us 2000s kids - You get to enjoy a higher floor in quality due to the technical possibilities, but high budget releases tend to lack creativity compared to back in the day. Except we're talking Nintendo here, and Nintendo's still got it to some extent. Not Indie games extent, but certainly leagues more than Sony and especially Microsoft. Similar levels of still having creativity to Valve on the PC front (except Valve only release a new game once in a blue moon).
Switch was launched 8 years ago and it's still getting games. Even though most people are now waiting for a successor and are ready to part away with it when switch 2 comes along.
I felt this way with the 3DS back in 2018. I loved the 3DS, it was my thing to rely on. I had became better friends with people through games like Pokemon Y, Mario Kart 7 and some DS games. All the memories I had off the system made me upset that it was all coming to a close. Just listening to the system settings or camera music was enough to make me cry. I miss the 3DS days. From Christmas 2012 when I first got it all the through till the start of High School. It was my friend
Honestly, I'm glad the switch is still going strong. I've always struggled being a poorer gamer and financially speaking, I don't think I could affort keeping up with a new console. My Switch Lite's been going strong.
i hope not. that would be absolutely horrible for the company LOL, everyone is already tired of the switch. maybe if they kept making 3ds's and games for it we wouldn't be as tired, but the last super major release was Samus Returns, in 2017. which was already swept away by the switch. it's the lack of choice that makes me extremely antsy. like he said in the video, every new mainline game released on the switch will probably be record breaking, but that's solely because it is the only option we have.
@@murmirrI think Nintendo might actually keep the switch for even more. It's a piece of hardware that will take very long to be on the same level the 3DS was, in terms of technical limitations, when it was around. It's still a very impressive handheld. Nintendo might release a new, perhaps non handheld console, and treat the switch like a 3DS, with more casual releases, while having the new platform be a big revolution in terms of graphical presentation. But I sincerely don't know if that would work, given the switch is a hybrid console, not just a handheld. They might want to keep the portability on the next one, thus having the need to replace and ditch the old console.
But there's also a big factor that Switch emulation became a thing way too fast, and the handheld market has been popping off greatly with the steam deck and its competitors. So maybe they don't want a second handheld? I don't know.
I can relate with certain points for this. The Switch launched while I was in college, and now it’s basically become a central point of my life. I have so many memories of games played on the console, with many still in my backlog, and I even recently completed my New Year’s resolution of catching/obtaining all possible shinies in Pokémon Scarlet! And yeah, even after the Switch’s successor launches, I’ll most likely take time to revisit it.
I've gotten a completely different view about how the switch is 8 years old now. It's criminal this doesn't already have atleast 100k views in 6 hours instead of 8k
Soon, but for now we get to enjoy Xenoblade X in a few months. The only Wii U title I can think of that isn't on Switch is Nintendo Land. It was pretty fun from what I remember.
Game was peak, it just needed more games and an online. Imagine mario chase but you could always have 3 toads instead of having to gather your cousins and shit to play with you once a month 😭
I dont really care about what the next console is gonna be, I know it will continue to have games I enjoy like the switch does. I just want it to come out so all the switch 2 rumor and leak channels will shut up
The little animation bits in this were really good. There was so much heart, soul and passion put in here and the final line really got to me. Also it feels insane to me that you didnt know anyone online who was into Nintendo games. Meanwhile a lot of people I met online were super into them and it felt more common to find Nintendo fans online than offline.
The Switch will always be one of my top favorite consoles. Even if its not perfect with some aspects (UI, online infrastructure, or the Eshop structure), I can still appreciate some of the great games we've gotten (shoutouts to Pikmin 4). Also, I love the frutiger aero vibes mixed with the wii animations you've been doing. Keep up the great work!
Great vid. I love the new 3D style and it really shines in this video because of topic of sentimental value we hold to gaming and the nostalgia we feel towards the consoles we have played on. It's weird to think that the switch will (probably) soon be gone. A new console taking it's place. The switch had it's issues but I don't think any other console allowed me to have so many fun interactions with friends and sometimes even strangers. text-green-game-over
