Man…. If this is someone’s backyard, they are so lucky. If I lived there, it would be hard for me to not sit out there all night in the dead silence with crickets, waiting to hear the spooky, low roar of locos coming from miles down the track.
I know the feeling. When I was a kid growing up in Ashland, WV; I used to see the N&W trains go right past my house up to the Ashland Coke & Coal Tipple.
I used to live in Jefferson, OR, 3 houses away from the main line of the Union Pacific. The line had trains running it an average of 5 to 15 trains in a 24 hour period, some would be slow, some would be faster than they probably should have been in a S-curve. The train crossing for the neighborhood was on the street we were on so we'd get the full train horn and everything. It never bothered me, late at night you could often hear the train horns from Albany (10 or so miles away) and Marion (roughly 5 miles away). The only HUGE downside was that the train crossing I discussed about? That was the ONLY way in or out of the neighborhood, and many times the train would come to a complete stop on the tracks due to some issue down the line. Stopping on a crossing for any of the ones in the town weren't good, but they all had ways of getting around it given they would be stopped anywhere from 10 minutes to sometimes well over an hour; for those in that neighborhood they were stuck. It was a stupid, idiotic and braindead decision to build that neighborhood with no other way in or out, but I'm assuming it had to do with land claims surround it. They should have had a road that connected to it from a neighboring division so you could at least get out of the neighborhood in an emergency. All in all, haven't lived there in years so not my problem.
That one autorack with the graffiti letters covering the whole side of the car is insane, the time and effort put into that without being seen is incredible 😂
Yup. Moving along at a pretty good clip there! From the looks of it, in that area the track speed limit is 60 mph and it appears that Tim Mungenast, below, nailed it. That was about 60. Same speed rate and the flat spots on the wheels sounded the same as they do in Dunkirk, NY. Track speed limits in that area are 60. Nice!
I was going 65-70 one time trying to beat a train that was about a mile behind me because I had to cross the tracks to take a guy home from work. I crossed the tracks right before the arms came down. His wake was making all the leaves chase him.
Is there a boxcar anywhere in America which is free from graffiti? It certainly looks like anyone can get to any rail car anywhere, anytime he or she wishes, to do whatever he or she wishes with it.

@@rc4lifebnsf exactly no excuse to have slow trains compared to train length, we have shorter trains with one loco doing 75 you have many locos on a train so should be able to keep up to speed
Ok the US has overall poor rail speeds as flying is so much cheaper than high speed rail infrastructure, so that was moderately fast. I was more impressed with the number of cars.
Easy enough to find out. Those boxcars are 60 feet long, so watch the video and figure out how many seconds one or more takes to pass a given spot. 60mph = 88 feet per second, so use that to convert.

And having pond that you could fish in whilst eating for the train
absolutly the same wish
I had a house 78 ft from the bottom of the ballast on BNSF tracks for 10 years. It was great seeing all the cool stuff coming buy.

All the train cars in NJ are like that lol

Awesome horn as it comes and goes!! Thanks
I enjoyed this. Whatever the actual speed was (I'm guessing 60 mph), it was hustling. Seeing that much tonnage whooshing by is an impressive thing.
I would say it was going about 45 mph
@@eastpennrailproductions Yep 45ish...Definitely no more than 50
@@eastpennrailproductionseven that is impressive when you consider the sheer mass they are hauling
40-45 mph.
Nice night video, thank you., This train was hauling, at least 55 if not 60.
The camera was moving almost as fast as the train!

Fast yes for CSX for sure. Nice long train.
CSX Trains can go up to 80 MPH, I saw a CSX Train go faster than that, more like 90 to 100. It was night time as well.
@Jax_LPD no american freight trains can go more than 75 mph
Nice catch! And a sweet narrow font K5HL on that ES44DC leader!
Well it got the hell on by its business

No, mate. Graffiti is part of the trains and wouldn’t be the same without it! These things go all over the continent.

I miss the old rotating front headlight especially in the fog.
I watch from a friends yard right next to the tracks. Lots of freight and passenger trains.

Looking for an open box car. Hobo Shoestring might be in it.
Anyone else count 3 engines and 141 cars?? Or am I the only ocd insomniac rail fan here?😂
Nah, you're right. I counted 141 as well
Its pulling a total of 141 rolling stock (box cars / tankers - etc) if I counted correctly. Man, if only it were an old steam loco....
Greatest capture ever.❤
Please consider to get yourself a tripod. Or choose another stable platform for your cam. Would make a good video even better ;-)
The average length of a boxcar is 60 feet and it takes one second to cross a fixed point. Therefore this train is traveling approx 41 MPH...
Nice catch! Where was that?
What’s on the flatbeds ?
almost all those boxcars have been tagged 😮
It just keeps going! :0
I would have to say 55.

That train was so long you need a train to get from the front to the back end

0:51 CSX 408
0:52 CSX 238

What's up with the pixelated Flash points . It was a good catch but that killed it for me
Fast train? It takes 2 minutes to pass IF it was 1 mile long the speed would be 30 MPH
Considering how heavy a train is, it’s amazing they can even move at all
I Whould Say 60 Mph
Too many box cars for a freight train
It surely is not a oil train, grain train, coal train, intermodial or pig train so it must be a mixed freight train.
Who is stealing all the graffiti paint?!
