10:05 / Azriel82, "Esper" is not an MtG reference. They are both referencing the same thing; an "ESPer", properly capitalized, denoting someone with ESP. ESP stands for [E]xtra [S]ensory [P]erception, aka "the sixth sense", aka psychic powers.
the game feels massive until you hit about level 12-16, and suddenly the entire map opens up. After that, it's very shallow. Sure you can go infinitely downwards, but the monsters and environments stop changing after about 50 levels.
@@Bronimin There are many different areas with many different enemies. It's not just, when you go deeper. I have played almost 200h now, and in every playthrough I discovered new stuff.
Yeah, when you find those quests, exploring those hand crafted areas is fun. I was just expecting more you know, after spending so much time around the watervine swamp. The rest of the map is very barren.
how did i not retain the info that Qud was based on Gamma World? That makes it all make so much more sense, and now I know exactly what my next game purchase is gonna be. What a good thing that one guy mentioned it, in Discord, and inadvertently reminded me to come watch the VODs~
I recently started playing this game because I've heard you mentioned it on your streams and I noticed it in my steam shop. It's such a good game. I'm a bit burned out from DF after 200 hours in under a month so I needed another game.
Much like DF, the learning curve is a bit steep but once you get into a groove and understand how things work...Qud is among the best there is. Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead is another solid choice. Beware though. ; )
"It's happened to me" *Looks at the camera extremely traumatised* I know that feel. Haven't played roguelikes in quite a while, but I remember that feel distinctly.
My favorite strategy was to make a mutant with high ego, beguiling and dominate, enlist some meat shields in Joppa and then go directly to Kyakuya to get a map to find a legendary merchant map and then hopefully make it to them without dying. Once there I'd arrange things so I'm dying of thirst and hunger and on my last tick of health dominate the legendary merchant and become a god among mortals. With stats through the roof I'd be damn near unstoppable, but more often then not my strength would make me too arrogant and I'd die stupidly one way or another...
Looks like I'll need to revisit this, it's been a good bit since I've played it and it looks like a bunch has changed. After 300+ hours of DF I'm starting to get a bit burned out so this might be a bice change of pace...
My favourite is winged mutant. Don't go down any caves, just search the watervine swamps for ruins, biomes and the rare spawns. Get a few levels into wings and a rifle, then hit kyakuya for a few thousand bullets and snipe the murderfish til like level 25. Half the mobs in the game can't touch flying creatures, so you are a god on the surface. Just watch out for turrets, goatmen seed throwers, other riflemen, that kinda thing.
What I like to do is mutant. Have multiple arms. Go with one unstable genome, high ego, tinkerer. Get at least 1 dram of clone juice. Cook using clone juice. Save scum (precog) for better results. Find a group of converts, ask leader to join. Congrats! You now have a mob that can gaggle fuck everything. Domination will find its way to you. Use it with precog and dominate your clones to spend levels and make them diverse for better coverage. Don't be stupid and you are now immortal.
I love Caves of qud! Personally I found the (games?) insistence of pure kins as like a nice starter choice a bit misleading (just what I remember hearing when I started) mutants are really cool really easily and get powerful quick, and I think it gets you more into the spirit of what Caves of Qud is about. True kin have more steps to get powerful, needing to find a becoming nook, credits, and bio-mods. Easily possible, just not as approachable for new players imo. Other tips to beginners I would throw out is put a chest in Joppa and store excess/cool loot there. Fresh water is really easy to get; useful items from trade not so much so when you get the opportunity to get something really useful you usually want to take it even if it costs most of your fresh water. It might take a bit to learn what's useful to you, as it depends on build and such. Water is heavy so always trade it for trade goods like gems and ingots because they maintain the same value anywhere in the world and weigh much less. Also this game is a numpad king. Like I'm sure you can play this game without one, but I tried, gave up, and bought a stand alone numpad instead. Once you have one the controls are pretty intuitive. Only "complaint" is that I've played for years but still barely know anything about the game because the absolutely unrelenting pace of new content that's still ongoing has made 99% of my old saves invalid 😂
I just finished the content from the Moon Stairs update. Very fun stuff. Don't forget to take Shake it Off ASAP. Can't count how many times I died to slimes stun locking me.
CoQ.. Excellent! 😍😍😍 This and Kenshi are my most love-hate-games. 😅 So many times I rage quitting... 😁 Ok, ok, ok... Dominions 5 is also on the list. 😇
@@BlindiRLI would love a beginner “play through” like you did with df. I know that’s different since it’s a rouge-like but short 30min-1hr episodes of fun and teaching would be awesome! I would watch that!

The urge to buy this just from seeing character creation is immense. It's 2am and I'm going to be thinking of character builds until I zonk out.
The amount and diversity of items you can find is even better.
There are also some pretty creative enemies.

Hell yeah, Qud! Fuck this Dwarf Fortress shit, this is an actual good game.
Jokes aside, I wouldn't mind more Qud content from you.

Qud is an excellent choice.
I actually heard of Qud after seeing a 12games post on how it inspired Dwarf fortress to work on improving adventure mode.

200 hours in under a month? Is this a thing people do or is this exaggerating?
@@burgermind802 I had a lot of free time from work last month. Don't judge me. I'll do it again!

I used to think the blinking tic mutation is free points until it teleported me in the middle of a rustwell and I fell 3 z-levels and instantly died.
Gotta make sure you got supportive gear or mutations to prevent that sorta thing, or don't go where that's possible! :P

I’ve been waiting for this ever since the Constructive Orb vods where you mentioned going back to Qud.
Ooooooo my god! Finally! This game will get attention it deserves!
I don't know if I'll attract that much attention for a small series of vods but I hope it'll help a bit lol.
Curious to see where this will go!
What are the chances? I just got into qud last week! Can't wait to watch the series

I wish Caves had the fan base DF has, I'd kill for a new graphical version of Qud!
Its already got 18k sprites though, why does it need more? This games got style and thats all it needs. It was also ascii at one point lol.
the game looked better before the dev put that awful cyan filter on everything
so excited for ep2!
Ah yes, Orbuntu, the new version of Ubuntu Linux which deletes all your files if you open the wrong program
Oh man you missed an opportunity to name your character Cudley (or Qudley) the Transdimensional Cowlick.
I've named people qudly before. But it was qudly Doolittle and I tamed beasts.
This game needs the same treatment as dwarf fortress, I tried to get into Qud but I just didn't understand anything
As in tutorials? or rework? Cause they did remake the ui in this game lol

You aren't going to tell us where to get the game and provide a link to it?
I mean, it's on steam itch and gog lol. Easy enough to find.
