The camera crew followed Sohyang backstage after this performance and she collapsed into an armchair and told another singer that she was trembling she was so exhausted from pouring her entire being into this song. She also said that she broke down and cried repeatedly when practising for this song, it was just so emotional for her. If I sound like a Sohyang fan, believe me when I say I am in _awe_ of her. And I say _that_ about no other singer. 😮😮😮
This was one of the first two or three So-Hyang videos I saw, and she's one of my favorite singers now. For those who don't understand why she's not a bigger deal worldwide, she doesn't sing for fame, fortune, or a record deal, because she's turned down a few. She sings to lift people up and make them feel better. She sings for a greater purpose and a higher power. She's very religious. She's also a cancer survivor. Now that you've done this one Julia, it's only natural that "Lean On Me" should be right around the corner. She does have some videos out that were made this year which would include: Never Enough Amazing Grace I Will Always Love You
"Lean on Me" is awesome, and Julia should definitely get to it eventually. But at the same time, Lean on Me definitely falls into the category of what Julia is describing: An arrangement that starts off more quietly, but then wallops the audience with SoHyang's powerhouse vocal abilities. Maybe she could do Lean on Me after the next SoHyang reaction (whatever that may be).
Interesting background info. Hard to believe that someone would pass up opportunity to amass some level of fame and fortune. Could always use such money to address the myriad of ills across the globe. Hope passing on such was truly her choice and that she is happy. In the end, living life in the best way for you is most important.🤩🥰
For more subtle, laid back performances from Sohyang, I'd recommend checking out some stuff from Begin Again Korea, which she appeared on earlier this year. The show involved "busking" outside across Korea and since it's not a competition, she didn't feel as much pressure to sing at the upper limits as much. Some Begin Again performances: I Will Always Love You (big midbelts obviously but lots of softer vocals too): ua-cam.com/video/DO845EqU3eE/v-deo.html I Love You (her own song): ua-cam.com/video/xdQgY-yBcrU/v-deo.html Day Day (a fun rap song -- yes, she raps and very well too!): ua-cam.com/video/bBQwhC_LLek/v-deo.html If I Ain't Got You (so soulful and so many different vocal coordinations!): ua-cam.com/video/cNrM2RJ93JE/v-deo.html Please (one of her saddest performances!): ua-cam.com/video/SzzmGMCXX0I/v-deo.html Back in Time (a stripped back ballad and a great showcase of her lows): ua-cam.com/video/stoLdF9_j0c/v-deo.html I Will Go to You Like the First Snow (another ballad!): ua-cam.com/video/XQmnDmsCovI/v-deo.html Wind Song (she's sung this A LOT as she recorded an official arrangement of it as a soundtrack for a KDrama a few years back): ua-cam.com/video/GG6ZVcnNcRM/v-deo.html She also sang "Never Enough" and did an amazing job, but it's not a live performance and it's quite the belt-fest, so not sure if you'd be as interested in that. She's also appearing on Begin Again again this week with a new round of performances, so far we know of "Love Poem" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," but there will be more than that. Most of these, while still definitely vocally impressive, have a more stripped back and casual approach, where Sohyang uses more lighter dynamics, agility, low notes and midbelts rather than a ton of super high belting. It fits the laid back atmosphere of street performances better, and it was nice to see here sing new stuff in an environment where she doesn't feel pressured to belt into the rafters for votes. This would also just be a nice way to hear her at her most recent! There's more Begin Again performances where those came from, but those are her real stand outs in my opinion that also showcase a more reserved side. Unfortunately, quite a few of her other English covers on Begin Again (not listed above) are not available on UA-cam outside of Korea, but they can be found on Vimeo or accessed with a VPN on UA-cam. Some of these include: I'll Be There I Won't Give Up Stuck with U You Are the Reason (sung once before Begin Again this year with Greg Priester: ua-cam.com/video/yKd8AWV7e_Y/v-deo.html) Misty (has been sung many times outside of Begin Again though, here's one of them: ua-cam.com/video/UXHkJbyDSDM/v-deo.html) Marvin Gaye Loved the reaction! Hope this helps!
Sohyang explains that each time she performs, she truly believes that she is singing in front of God, not in front of people.(CTS Talk Show interview: 3/6/2008).So, yes... she's "all in."
"She's so good that is almost disgusting" hahaha It's kind of hard to find a Sohyang song video that do not follow that formula you said. But probably in the newer ones... from 2020, it's not that intense. Probably because during pandemic big concerts are not allowed. Well, this one is just her voice and a guitar... but you're still going to see people crying hahaha 🎤 말문이 막히는 소향(Sohyang)의 노래, 숨죽여 듣는 이소라 ′제발′♩ 〈비긴어게인 코리아(beginagainkorea)〉 8회 ua-cam.com/video/SzzmGMCXX0I/v-deo.html
Agreed. The Begin Again series of performances gives the audience a more intimate look on how she approaches her craft and the care she takes in each note she sings. Her complete mastery of her voice, without the spectacle of the performance, might even be better than her performances. Then again, I was blown away by her rendition of Never Enough which wouldn't be possible without production so...*weak shrug*

Very excited to see your reaction video pop up. Good to see you visit Sohyang again. I think the statement that sums up the reaction for me is "just take my soul." And this is indeed an overwhelming performance. It turned a grown man into a crying puppy drenched in unstoppable tears. But I was grateful for the experience. If you are looking for something else for a Sohyang reaction, I'd suggest you consider Sohyang's cover of Ella Fitzgerald's "Misty" for a change of pace @ ua-cam.com/video/Kimhr_TmAsk/v-deo.html (There are several performances but I think this one is safest from the copyright claims)
Thanks Julia for all your SoHyang reactions, they were all emotional and analytical as much as they should. Seen them all 4-5 times each. I would suggest her performance in "I Will Always Love You" from the "KoreaBeginAgain" campaign, where she is sitting under the sun, with a guitar and a piano, also if you want to listen to her kind of rapping, try her "Day Day" from the same campaign
It's about time you get around to this one. This is the first SoHyang performance I watched and it still gives me chills every time I watch it again. You could feel she sing this song from the bottom of her heart and her emotions are genuine and honest. She is not just putting up a show here. It touches you like a personal confession full of love and devotion, if I may say it.
I second Misty. It's a very recent performance and she doesn't get extremely belty. More like a lullaby. It's very nice. Edited to add: Make sure it's the recent one from Begin Again Korea, I know she has a couple diff. versions of it out there, this one is by far the best.
so hyang sings to bring joy to others & to make the world better; a truly simple yet humble&honest venture... she's insanely talented, yes duh, but i believe the raw emotional response she manages to invoke from anyone with a soul is intertwined with her simplistic beginning goal&unwavering faith. i am not a definitively religious person, nor have any strong connection to a higher power, but so hyang's conviction in her own floods out of her when she sings, & makes me believe in *something* whatever the heck that may be. ugh, the feels are too real, even hundreds of times deep listening to this...please do yrself & us the favor of exploring so hyang's powers as frequently as possible! her recent rendition of "i will always love you" from the begin again korea concert is of note, as is her rendition of "amazing grace" from early this year.
Listen to her; "I Will always love you"", She sang the saxophone part, never heard before. You hear in the beginning she sang acapella and a short silence and then a soft contueing of her singing. She sings in the open air near a harbour with a public and a band. It's an intimate setting !! It's not grand but you will be moved only with her crying singing voice ! OMG !!
So much great stuff from her has just dropped - Stay (an original from her), Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (amazing duet), Love Poem, a new arrangement of You Raise Me Up that is much different from the one you've reacted to, Amazing Grace and I Won't Give Up. None of these songs have her go into flamethrower mixed voice mode for extended periods and they all have lots of really cool dynamics. Hope to see you revisit her soon!
Either 'i will always love you' or 'misty' from the show ' begin again korea'. They were basically 'busking around korea to keep the spirits of the people up during the pandemic. You wont believe this but her voice is even better now in 2020,she has experienced a lengthy period for her of relatively good health & not only is she singing better but she looks amazing too
@@jvoxfox love your reactions julia, can you react to sohyang "where are you"? its one most emotional performances shes done, she cried after vimeo.com/254194327 this link has eng subtitles
Sohyang is so impressive to me and you pick up on the details. Might be my personal favorite female singer of all time. I always love your reaction videos because you break it down, and those little edits with comments above the video are a nice pacing break to the pauses with talks so it's not just non-stop pauses. And to be random internetguy #1073 you are absolutely gorgeous, I just had to throw that in there.
Oh, thank you for checking her out! She's amazing! Can't wait for you to check "Day Day" one day to see the a whole different side of hers :D Her rapping unexpectedly good. 😂 Or Misty on begin again for a jazzy performance with technical perfection! Or "Please" on begin again. I promise, you'll cry. It's so sad. Both "Misty" and "please" are not about high note. They're just perfect!
I first heard this song by So Hyang several years ago and it started the search you mention and if will make a difference you can find it on her 6 shows on Masked singer from Korea. Then recently she did a tour in Korea in the streets and everyday workplaces to give hope to the essential workers. she showed so much versatility and still the best ability in those street shows. One was done a shipping dock , with workers standing near as she performed "I will always love you" by dolly Pardon originally and made a huge hit by Whitney Houston. It was simply beautiful and so timely. Thanks for doing your reaction and I agree with everything you mention. My reaction is simple. she is a perfectly tuned musical instrument and produces spiritual experiences that are a blessing to us....
So Hyang is GREAT, however what makes this song sooo special is the arrangement which she writes / coordinates. It is, by definition, a southern American gospel arrangement, and I believe that this performance was actually part of a church service in Korea. Many church songs are arranged this way. There are about 3 additional layers of "hook" (syncopation, up-tempo, rich orchestral) in this song as a result which is splendidly captivating. In addition to So Hyang's masterful performance is the equally masterful arrangement. Solid stuff. Btw, that is a G5 she is hitting full / mixed voice. Impressive with unbelievably technical skills on full display. Well done!
Thanks Julia. It was really enjoying reaction. When it comes to her musical diversity, I recommend "misty" or "day day" from "Begin again" version in 2020. "Amaging Grace" would be good if considering copywrite problem.
Try her performance of Day Day on King of Masked Singer (or Begin Again Korea). It will definitely not make you cry, but it'll for sure blow you away. It is a very demanding arrangement, especially in terms of breath control, pitch, and accuracy. Plus she does some incredible stuff with the melody and tempo!
completely agree that the music arrangement is very similar for immortals song performance. u might have to search through hidden singer to get something more different.
I am admittedly not familiar with Sohyang, so thanks for the intro. As a Texan constantly hearing old and new country songs and singers, I do have to note that a good many of the runs and even Sohyang's pronunciation in the first half of this song remind me of a country music performer. Great versatility for sure.
I've seen these performances so many times but she still gives me goosebumps every time. I've found that since she's an author, the storytelling quality in her voice and the emotions she gives to each line overwhelm me so much. In the best way, ofc. She sings like it's a film score, panning over a scene. It's ridiculous. But if I could also recommend something to react to, I'd love it if you could watch Mamamoo's Killing Voice on Dingo!
I would suggest listening to some of the beginagainkorea performances to hear some different musicality from Sohyang. Misty and Day Day are two of my absolute favourites.
This reaction video is my favorite reaction video. The quality of the video is very good, and the audio quality is also good. I felt fantastic while watching the video. She doesn't stop singing because she doesn't want to break the flow and emotion of the song. Julia is beautiful and shows wonderful analysis and reactions. I enjoyed the reaction video, which was as passionate and cool as her red hair! Thank you, Julia.🦔
Reacted this.. Exactly..?😅 Beautiful.. so emotional to bear when she whisperes, yet so angelic.. so soothing. Her outstanding but resonated high note is seriously beautiful. Phenomenal and stunning..👍 So pleased to see you react this song. Your reaction, including "You raise me up" and "Everyone" is very professional and technically on point.
In her outdoor concerts with "Begin Again-Korea", I thought "Please" was one of the most beautiful songs that I have ever heard her sing (and does not follow the formula that you have seen her perform). I was in tears and I didn't even understand a single word! Here is the link: @
Watch So Hyan sing Misty, a jazz song for something less powerhouse-ish : ua-cam.com/video/ETgs2OrV_ts/v-deo.html Otherwise, I was gonna suggest Lean On Me, but you ruined it by saying you don't want anymore powerhouse performances, lol.
Thanks Julia, for your great reaction video! If you are looking for something more subtle, I would strongly recommend "Misty" from Begin Again Korea performance!
Julia check out her singing Misty from Begin Again Korea, only a couple minutes long but very little background music and lets you concentrate on her voice. Awesome work as usual
Misty would be a good choice. But i would not use the "begin again" version because of copyright issues. Better is this performance. ua-cam.com/video/5oBdTq0S_LU/v-deo.html
I used to have this song (performed by a different artist) as the first track on a beat-mixed tape I used for instructing aerobics, back in the ''80s, (you may laugh, but I am over 50 now, and I can still jump and land in the splits, without requiring six months of rehab, so bite me). The version I had followed the same pattern / arrangement you described, with a delicate start (stretch / mobility) and gradually transitioned into the big, powerful belts and runs (big amplitude moves and 'travels'). It was my favourite tape just for that track, and I used it way too much for years, until the quality deteriorated too much, so this song is totally ingrained into my psyche, but THIS!!! Holy crap, this is amazing. She has so much power and control. How could you not be totally amazed by her ability, especially if you know exactly how she is producing these sounds? I am insanely jealous that I can not appreciate her ability at same level of understanding that you do, Julia. (I still teared up a bit). Fan girl away, any time you like. The looks of awe and amazement on your face were absolute gold, and I am completely besotted with your speechless gesticulations, your quirky turns of phrase, and your amazing captions and editing - easily the most creative and entertaining reaction videos I have seen - second to none. Play on.

Google translation👇 If you're listening to Sohyang's Bridge Over Troubled Water...In the beginning of the song, the angel who lived without knowing the weight and suffering of life slowly descends from the sky to the ground. Then in the middle and second half of the song, it feels like the angel understands the weight and pain of human life and shouts to them that he will be their hope. This song has a pure and very beautiful story like a movie. She is a true artist.
Too bad you don't want to react to her being a powerhouse. Lean on Me she performed live as one of several kpop singers for Michael Bolton is my absolute favorite I've heard so far. Missing that, you are missing out.

Do you know
I will always love you
And more please
How about something different next: SoHyang’s music video cover of Never Enough? Thx
so hyang sings to bring joy to others & to make the world better; a truly simple yet humble&honest venture... she's insanely talented, yes duh, but i believe the raw emotional response she manages to invoke from anyone with a soul is intertwined with her simplistic beginning goal&unwavering faith.
i am not a definitively religious person, nor have any strong connection to a higher power, but so hyang's conviction in her own floods out of her when she sings, & makes me believe in *something* whatever the heck that may be.
ugh, the feels are too real, even hundreds of times deep listening to this...please do yrself & us the favor of exploring so hyang's powers as frequently as possible!
her recent rendition of "i will always love you" from the begin again korea concert is of note, as is her rendition of "amazing grace" from early this year.
진심이 느껴지는 감상 소향에대한 진심어린 펑가 감사합니다 그래서 그대 더욱더 아름답습니다 👍
Wow! I was shocked when she went into that fuller, more “gospel-y” belted sound
OMG !!
I can't get enough of her... I've probably heard this song few hundred times.. possibly more ..but I also love the message not just the technique..
You wont believe this but her voice is even better now in 2020,she has experienced a lengthy period for her of relatively good health & not only is she singing better but she looks amazing too
she needs a concert in the Sydney Opera House
I will fly there and just sit in the audience and weep.
@@jvoxfox mee too. Absolutely I agree with you.
@@jvoxfox hi julia, thought you had reacted to this song 6 months ago? Am I wrong?
@@hossetttren253 hi, i haven't reacted to this before now. Raise Me Up and Everyone was six months ago :)
@@jvoxfox love your reactions julia, can you react to sohyang "where are you"? its one most emotional performances shes done, she cried after vimeo.com/254194327 this link has eng subtitles
Oh my god if you want variety of her musical approaches I would recommend you to react to her masked singer performances :D
They're just perfect!
her “lean on me” is soooo perfect too
I first heard this song by So Hyang several years ago and it started the search you mention and if will make a difference you can find it on her 6 shows on Masked singer from Korea.
Sohyang (I Can Only Imagine)
Much more simplistic, but absolutely beautiful!!
I Will Always Love You, Misty or I Won't Give Up from Begin Again Korea would all meet your goals for your next So Hyang reaction.
Sohyang's piano voice, reminds me of the literal definition of Korea, " The Land Of The Morning Calm ", so soothing & beautiful. Peace Julia❤🤗⚘🎄🥂😎
Well done!
Been waiting for this.
I absolutely loved that punch at the end. She knew she nailed it!
I think there are very few female singers in the world who have the same level of singing ability as her.
Thanks Julia. It was really enjoying reaction. When it comes to her musical diversity, I recommend "misty" or "day day" from "Begin again" version in 2020. "Amaging Grace" would be good if considering copywrite problem.
It moved me also. So much.
Her Masked Singer performance of "Hug Me" is the most subtle, beautiful thing. I cry every time I listen to it!
I think her cover of "I Can Only Imagine" is great.
♥️She is My Queen of Singers... she sings with her whole heart, soul and emotions!! ♥️🕊️ Big Merry Christmas to you! 🎄🎄
This is what happens when you combine a great song with a great voice……Goosebumps! She definitely is angelic!
completely agree that the music arrangement is very similar for immortals song performance. u might have to search through hidden singer to get something more different.
I am admittedly not familiar with Sohyang, so thanks for the intro. As a Texan constantly hearing old and new country songs and singers, I do have to note that a good many of the runs and even Sohyang's pronunciation in the first half of this song remind me of a country music performer. Great versatility for sure.
Been a while since you've done So Hyang!
It’s like she’s crying the lyrics. She’s amazing.
In Begin Again, she sang a very beautiful sad song called Please.
Her OST Only My Heart Knows (no copyright issue) is also beautiful.
Beginagain - “misty” & I’ll always love you
Masterpiece
Please react to So Hyang singing "Amazing Grace"
I would suggest listening to some of the beginagainkorea performances to hear some different musicality from Sohyang. Misty and Day Day are two of my absolute favourites.
Thank you for react :)
From South Korea
This reaction video is my favorite reaction video. The quality of the video is very good, and the audio quality is also good. I felt fantastic while watching the video. She doesn't stop singing because she doesn't want to break the flow and emotion of the song. Julia is beautiful and shows wonderful analysis and reactions. I enjoyed the reaction video, which was as passionate and cool as her red hair! Thank you, Julia.🦔
Such a beautiful voice.
Then You should react to Sohyang - I Will Always Love you 😃
That is what u looking for 😇
Reacted this.. Exactly..?😅
Beautiful.. so emotional to bear when she whisperes, yet so angelic.. so soothing.
Her outstanding but resonated high note is seriously beautiful.
Phenomenal and stunning..👍
So pleased to see you react this song.
Long time no see you julia.
thanks for So Hyang Reaction...
She's singing.
To healing everyone...
who deserve.
Watch So Hyan sing Misty, a jazz song for something less powerhouse-ish : ua-cam.com/video/ETgs2OrV_ts/v-deo.html
Otherwise, I was gonna suggest Lean On Me, but you ruined it by saying you don't want anymore powerhouse performances, lol.
Thanks Julia, for your great reaction video! If you are looking for something more subtle, I would strongly recommend "Misty" from Begin Again Korea performance!
Great recommendation!
Yesss, I was hoping for this!
Glad you got around to this recommendation - as knew it would overwhelm you 🤣
It is my favourite rendition of Bridge Over Troubled Water.
Try "misty" from her
She doesn't love to sing. She sings to love.
MISTY: YOU SHOULD REACT TO HER COVER OF "MISTY" ON "BEGIN AGAIN KOREA"
Please look "Amazing Grace" by So Hyang. So sweet.
I love that slightly nasal “twang” she adds in her belted sound. That reminds me of someone else, but I can’t quite think who.
쥴리아 초반에 말하는게 너무 귀엽네요.
She does a great version of "Never enough", staring her and her and her.
Play on.
Lean on me is my favorite song of hers. I recommend this song for you. Now don't cry and enjoy this song!!
Google translation👇
If you're listening to Sohyang's Bridge Over Troubled Water...In the beginning of the song, the angel who lived without knowing the weight and suffering of life slowly descends from the sky to the ground. Then in the middle and second half of the song, it feels like the angel understands the weight and pain of human life and shouts to them that he will be their hope. This song has a pure and very beautiful story like a movie. She is a true artist.
"Begin Again - I Will Always Love You"
is one where you can see her musicality!
너무 좋은 리액션!! 너무 예쁜 줄리아 닐론!!
Too bad you don't want to react to her being a powerhouse. Lean on Me she performed live as one of several kpop singers for Michael Bolton is my absolute favorite I've heard so far. Missing that, you are missing out.
wow! Finally, thank u so much for the reaction. Thank u so much. I think u must react her other performances like "Never Enough" "O Holly Night" "Lean On Me" "I Have Nothing" thank u
Hello Julia ~♡
I'm always grateful for your reaction ♡
Your smile makes me feel good :D
Please upload a lot of video of Sohyang this year
One of the realist and most genuine reactions to this song I’ve ever seen, and boy have I seen a lot... amazing👍.
Try I Can Only Imagine for a more commercial sound as it was a movie promo, but still great!
Amazing Grace is her just singing in the studio. A few belts but more toned down.
I've seen all of these performances 100 times and I still tear up. Bottle your tears and do more of her. She is amazing. And for something simpler that you seek try 'Misty' or any of her other 'Begin Again Korea' performances.
The story behind So Hyang is.. Insane, the amount she's been thru and overcome is.. She just put the soul into her performance and love, she's overcome so much, she can do anything.
Never Enough studio version. Layered vocals all slightly different. And Misty. It's short but what you want.
천사가있다면 이런 목소리를 가지고있을것이다. 줄리아도 이뻐요♡
Maybe Sohyang at the Begin and again program..outdoor service durning the Pandemic past Auguest singing If I ant got you...and singing close to the DMZ singing Love Poem ❤❤❤❤
항상 진심어린 리액션에 감사합니다. ^^
What a sensational performance.
What an amazing reaction.
Absolutely I agree with you.
She is ju~~~st amazing.
Thank you so much for great analysis and reaction. Absolutely I agree with you.
Please more react to Sohyang. Have a nice day.
