The folks at Weary Feet were true Trail Angels to me. I hiked VA SOBO in 2020, and as I was attempting to fill my CNOC in the stream by the shelter just north of Weary Feet, a rock gave out from under me and I fell backwards, hitting my head on another. Robert met us on the next dirt road crossing the Trail to get us to the hostel. They got me to the nearest Urgent Care and then to the nearest ER where I got 2 staples to the back of my head. What a great blessing they all were to me.
Ibcany wait till AT hike in 2025. Been watching videos anf researching for 2 months now. Super excited for everything from meeting new ppl to staying at the hostels along the way. Thank you for the videos
OMG this was awesome. I’m kind of shocked that out of the thousands, and I mean literally thousands of AT hike videos I’ve watched, no one has ever mentioned that you can stay at the mansion by the half gallon challenge, or that part of the underground railroad is there. I am planning to hike the AT at some point, and I am definitely going to try to do that. Thank you so much for your wealth of information!!
Thanks so much for watching! Yeah the mansion is awesome, definitely try to get down to the basement if you can, may depend on who the caretaker is if they’ll let ya down there or not. Let me know if you have any questions, pumped for you to hike!!
i don't really enjoy hostels in theory, but then when i get there i always have a great time. it is certainly part of the trail experience. thanks for this video
As always, enjoyed your video. It is that time, so I may be silent for a time. Thank you for all of your help, encouragement and support. I will be on putting my feet on the AT soon😊
Great information about Hostels. I was always very apprehensive to stay at one, and then I stayed at one in Masada while in Israel. Absolutely changed my mind. Hostels, Like any hotel there are good and not so good ones. I can imagine same on trail with hostels. I’m happy your experience was good where you stayed. 💙
Watch out for the hostels that suggest you slack pack and come back. They will try to tell you it's easier for that certain section. Really they are just trying to milk every dollar they can get off you. ... This is how.... First you show up and pay for the night. Then they suggest you slack pack and you pay for them to shuttle you forward after you pay for breakfast, Then you hike back to them and pay for a second night. Oh yeah then pay for breakfast and probably resupply items. Then pay to get shuttled forward again. No thank you... just grab you gear and hike North
Ahhhh the slack pack, of course. How could I forget that. Ya know, I never did one of those, always felt naked without my pack, so I hear ya! Thanks for the comment
Depending on the time of year, they can get pretty crowded, in which case it’d be best to call them. But I never had an issue finding a spot. At the very least, you can tent it there and use the facilities

I've never slack packed either, and I'm no purist. I just gotta have my stuff, all of it. Thanx for the vid.
Never felt unsafe?
Nahhh never
Do you have to reserve a spot at hostels or do you just get there and pay? I am a bit confused with this and can’t find anything online about it
