    The Refresh looks very promising, I'm definitely excited. This is a huge step in the right direction, fixing old packs is something they should have done years ago but it's never to late. Hopefully a Dine Out or Island Living refresh are in the works as well.

      Yeah I might be more willing to buy those if they did a refresh. I have spa day and am looking forward to this. I already had a CC wellness aspiration but now there are more of these and being able to make money off of not only teaching yoga but doing massages and meditation classes is really cool since I feel like we need more normal odd job options. I'm hoping at some point they let us make money from bartending as I feel the mixology branch of the culinary career is frustrating when you have to just mix a ton of drinks at home. I had several Sims bartend for money sometimes in the Sims 3

    Idk who they fired, hired, redirected, got out the way, got in the way, but I'm excited and I like this direction a lot. As soon as they started working with CC creators and paying attention, I've been just a little hopeful for the direction EA is going with The Sims now. Hopefully they don't let everyone's hopes down, for once.

      It may be happening because EA relinquished some of their control over Maxis, allowing them to make more decisions for the Sims franchise on their own. I think it's likely that's why they're suddenly more responsive to players. I've always had the feeling EA was responsible for the way Sims 4 was being handled, and that the sims team themselves were frustrated with their hands being tied.

    It’s a great start, and I’m surprised at just how much is being added in. Watching the park footage reminds me that I wish they’d add chess tournaments into the game, like the seasonal or City Living festivals, and our Bobby Fischer or Beth Harmon sims can earn simoleons from chess. There’s so many things they can do like that that probably wouldn’t take a great deal of time and effort to code in.

I feel like the scope of the packs are related to their names, and as such, Spa Day focuses on providing relaxing moments to your sims, getting into mindfulness, etc, and not running a business, just like City Living isn't about apartments, but rather the experience of living in a multicultural city, or Island Living not being about running resorts, offering the experience of living on the beach instead.

    • @CarlsSimGuides
      @CarlsSimGuides  3 роки тому +19

      Hi Gigi. Happy to see you as always! Something I'll say about DO is that I think its problems are more fundamental than just targeted at DO. They definitely do need to limit what Sims can do in restaurants, but I think that the base game behaviors also need to be improved a LOT to help DO shine so that it feels like a streamlined restaurant experience. Sims do a lot of dumb things, and of course AI lag etc greatly interfere with the process of running the restaurant.

    • @gigisneckofthewoods
      @gigisneckofthewoods 3 роки тому +18

      @@CarlsSimGuides I totally agree. Many of the problems stem from the AI and the engine. Those things you can't fix but I think some things like streamlining the experience so it doesn't take all day and making sims sit in their seats could be improved. Is it too much to ask for the NPC's to just sit and enjoy their meal? I don't want them stealing the food from others, stealing decor because they are kleptomaniacs or dancing to the stereo right where the waiters need to walk. Please just make them sit down and shut up! I also wouldn't mind some tweaks to running a restaurant, like the restaurant actually earning money when you aren't there supervising or when a waitress drops your meal you get a replacement instead of a 70% chance that you never get your food. I only ran a restaurant once and it was such a miserable experience. I want to know that I'm hiring a kleptomaniac before I hire them. I don't need them stealing my decor and causing everyone to jump up in surprise every 5 seconds. Let me hire my family. Let me hire someone at more than level 1 in cooking. Let me decide on raises and not be blackmailed into giving it because I'll lose all the money and time invested in the employees I have. Why do I have to pay for training my employees? Why can't they get on the job training like every Sims who has a job? This could be a fun and engaging experience with some actual effort put into the pack. Everything feels so disjointed, like the people creating this pack had no idea how to code anything and just settled for whatever they could figure out.

    honestly? this makes spa day seem much better, its having relivent impact with other packs and even comes with a difficulty modifying trait.
    sounds like the "refresh" is a swing in the right direction, hopefully magic is their next target, making 2 more traits, one being a difficulty modifier that makes magic mandatory in their daily life, something like Magic Addict that puts them in a sour mood whenever they do things that magic could have done faster like cleaning or cooking so you have to juggle magic charge with life style and sim health, not sure what the second trait could be yet.
    then rework some spells to be more unique, add in a couple of spells, hell use stuff from sims 2 or 3 (or for bonus points add in spells from sims 1 that require ingredients and crystals plus crystal growing! man i loved sims 1's magic system), an example: enchant object adds a random effect to an object mimmicking the same thing from the scientist "experiment on" in sims 3
    its simple, feels like a spell you would would expect in the sims and would be unique to spell casting.
    then just increase the interactive requirement to ranking up, some "magic classes" rabbit holes and the magic pack becomes much more fleshed out.
    fingers scrossed they keep up the momentum and bring out more pack refreshes soon because i sorely think sims 4 needs them to draw people back in(myself included)

We need these free improvements to have real incentive to keep playing the game, especially when the paid packs have little to offer. Here's to hoping this step is one of many that EA takes in this direction

    I play with spa day in almost every save where I have a famous or very social sim so the high maintenance trait makes me happy because that’s what I’ve been going for!
    I never would’ve even considered they’d do so much for a refresh though, considering what we’ve gotten so far 😭

    • @jamief9831
      @jamief9831 3 роки тому +2

      I think the parenthood pack adds some acne face overlays in the cas, unfortunately it's only visual and doesn't have an effect on your sim's mood. I have seen some mods that add acne (slice of life I think is the main one, but I don't use that one so I don't know for sure), unfortunately console players and players who otherwise don't use mods are left out. You're right, there is an opportunity to expand on gameplay around acne care.

    ...can I point into the fact they chosen the LEAST broken pack for their "refresh"? Like, Spa Day is essentialy about nothing, but it also doesn't have anything gamebreaking. Well, at least by now.
    Meanwhile Bust the Dust is a bug hunter's treasure trove, not to mention utterly bad gameplay options. This is the pack that BEGS for a fix, and yet...
    Well, at least there would soon be some more lolz when EA breaks there poor game even further.

    It's interesting that they showed this off in a park not a spa. I hope you can do this on spa and gym lots too. When they teased this earlier, I thought they might let us own and run spas like restaurants, but maybe having your sim be the yoga instructor rather than the manager is better for this pack because it ties into the yoga skill and will be more different from other packs where you're the owner/manager of the business.

    So my main point of criticism has nothing to do with the idea of refreshing packs of the past. I think that's a fantastic idea. But in doing so, they are admitting and recognizing the packs in The Sims 4 have been incredibly broken, flawed, and empty. So I think it is a little strange that while acknowledging the flaws in past packs, they still put out Dream Home Decorator and Cottage Living which continue the cycle. Fixing past packs is great but FUTURE packs should be finished on release. Otherwise the game will never be fully "refreshed" before they drop it.

    This gives me hope that someday they might update and fix more recent packs like Eco Lifestyle and Cottage Living so are functional and have enough content to be worth buying. If this is what the developers have to do to get around EA imposing unrealistic deadlines that don't let them finish stuff before release, good for them for finding a way to produce something worth playing.

    They should also do the career or monetized option for the Hair Stylist and Costume Designer in the Get Famous pack and upgrade them to free-lance careers. That is, if they ever decide to "refresh" that pack. Either way, all of these added features or refreshing of past packs just seems like another way to stall around before releasing sims 5.
