The Sand Pebbles is a one of those movies that I saw as a child and has remained in my consciousness for sixty years.

I was a huge fan of TMC when the host would pick movie of the week n talk about everything from location to bloopers in the movie and it really highlighted movies AND characters for me I feel this younger gen has been robbed of that....

The Sand Pebbles is a great pick by Kevin Costner. It's both Steve McQueen and Robert Wise at their best. Coincidentally, Kevin praising Steve McQueen's performance makes you realize not only their similar stoic, man of few words acting style, but also the fact that The Bodyguard was originally written by Lawrence Kasdan in the 1970's with Steve McQueen in mind for the lead character, and of course, would later go to Kevin Costner in the 90's when it was finally made.
Here's hoping Costner's Horizon quadrilogy is a success.

I'm hoping TCM will show "Sand Pebbles" at the festival soon. 2026 would mark its 60th anniversary. Candice Bergen is still with us - she was only 20 at the time the movie was made - and it would be great to have her do the introduction and speak about how the movie was made. How about it, TCM ??

As much as I enjoy many of Costner's film's, my feeling is that HE can only aspire, to be as good as McQueen!...Horizon sucked!...Just sayin'!
