  • A scene from the 1966 move "The Sand Pebbles". Starring Steve McQueen. This scene is moments before they engage in a battle. In this movie the situation on this vessel between the men was contentious, divisive, even mutinous. But when it came down to all of them "being in the same boat", in this scene of peril, they would have to pull together to survive. This scene symbolizes that for me. That they finally realize united we have a better chance surviving, and divided we fall. All their differences evaporated now, all done without words. Perhaps something to reflect upon for all of us, the way our country is today? A lesson.

This movie was a major influencer in my deciding to join the Navy back in April of 69. The technical authenticity was excellent. For example showing the right arm rates of the time. Such as BM, QM, GM.

Absolutely correct. The attention to detail here is flawless. And the fact that it continues for so long is even better.

Yeah, I cannot tell you how gutted I was on using binoculars as a kid realizing it wasn't the cool view the films would wrongly show. LOL

This movie has a near perfect script. For 1966 it had to be written by someone who was very well read on Eastern vs Western diplomatic relations and probably a political scholar.
