There is a tool you might be interested in, if you don't already have them. Known as a cabinet or card scraper to fine furniture builders, they have a very small hook on the edge that you control the size of when sharpening. You basically roll the edge over to form the hook. These are very effective at removing thin layers of whatever. I made my own set, 2", 1.5", 1", 1/2" wide, from old hand saw blade. I use tool steel rod to roll the edge after filing flat. That's some pretty tough items to remove, getting the effort just right to prevent further damage. Well done!
Thank you very much! I have a favorite scraper that I made from a broken file. It's my universal helper for everything, scraping off glue, removing dirt, removing a thin layer of varnish...
Hard work well done. This shows clearly, how fast one can underestimate the complexity of a restauration. Especially when one has not your proficient skills!
That is again a great job done Olha!! In the previous video, I noticed it would not be easy at all to get the canons from under the decks. But you managed it and that is just fantastic !! This model gets all the nice attention it deserves, and I know already it will come out a lot nicer !!

Yr restoration work is very accurate, you are removing everything, I am sure that in yr hands this ship model will be better than before, all the best from italy❤
Hello Olha! I wish you health and creative strength! I watch your videos and understand: you are a super master. How deftly you cut up a ship. And everything is neat. You're dissecting! By the way, maybe you are a Surgeon?... I'm being humorous. kidding . And by the way, I want to ask: what kind of glue is it sealed with? PVA, Titebond Original Wood Glue? I found out somewhere, it’s true a long time ago, that it can be soaked. Or I'm confused... I could be wrong. I think it's alcohol, but maybe not. not sure. In general, I can only be amazed at how skillfully you ship this here, that there... yes! By the way, how are you going to put the gun back under the tank now🤔! after all, when they were installed during assembly, there was no deck on top. how to do the binding now. these guns. Great! Best wishes! Egor, I won’t say where.
What music are you playing in this episode. It reminds of the Dwarves in The Hobbit movie. My husband and I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos and are looking forward to the next ones to follow along on this uograde.
The further you take the disassembly the more a second set of hands past the builder seems to emerge. Just the cleaning has improved the look of Boreas already! Is Assistant Ship Modeler Imbir on leave of absence? I would have thought this job was just his sort of thing! On a more visible note; I see the standing rigging for the cannons but none of the breaching rigging to reset them after firing; am I missing something?
Mis saludos, Olha: ¿el HMS BOREAS que estás restaurando pertenece a algún museo, o es de una colección particular? Excelente trabajo, aprecio mucho tus vídeos.¡Muchas gracias!
I would also like to know that)))) I think that the modeler simply glued them to the deck without installing eye-bolts, because he did not rigged the gun-carriages - so he simply saved time in this way...
I use 400-grit sandpaper, and at the end 2-3 Scotchbright pads of different hardness. I mainly use tung oil, teak oil, linseed oil or mixtures with wax such as OSMO. I have a separate video about it: "Painting and tinting :: shipmodeling :: workshop". Unfortunately, I can't insert a direct link, because UA-cam will block the comment...
Olha, just curious, as you always have well thought out reasons for the techniques you employ and the tools you use based on your experience, is there any particular reason you always use a brush rather than assist with a mini vacuum?
A soft brush will remove dust better without the risk of damaging the model. Especially when the model is quite old and you don't know which parts are well glued, and which powerful air flow can suck into the vacuum cleaner and damage (sometimes even destroy)... Therefore, it is better to use a brush, and for hard-to-reach places, compressed air. In the same way, photo equipment is literally "forbidden" to be vacuumed - you can only blow dust or use a soft brush... Even museum models are never vacuumed, but on the contrary, they only blow dust from them... Unless someone will someday create a special low-power vacuum cleaner with a soft nozzle and protected from accidental suction of small parts (such as cannonballs, coils of ropes, and an ordinary vacuum cleaner can simply catch the sail, it can tear it off along with all the blocks and rigging...). I accidentally damaged the model with a vacuum cleaner as I just walked past it very close without even vacuuming it. The vacuum cleaner sucked the sail and pulled it along with the stay, I saw how my bowsprit bent... I managed to turn off the engine before a serious shipwreck happened. The ropes survived, even the sail was not crumpled, but the chain on the bowsprit broke. I have a video in the "Gold Subscribers" playlist of my Pinky schooner being repaired after this meeting with the vacuum cleaner... P.S. I can't post a direct link because UA-cam will block comments...
In fact, it is very dangerous to vacuum models, especially those of such a solid age. You can accidentally destroy parts and seriously damage the model. This is not a new building that you just glued on new glues (like PVA), this is at least a 50-year-old and very fragile model... Did you see what happened to the first ladder in this video? I already took the second one much more carefully... The dust can only be blown from the model (especially in hard-to-reach places), this method is also used in museums for the maintenance of contemporary models...
In your shoes I wouldn't be able to fall asleep anymore: this model is a masterpiece apart from its rigging. That's a huge responsability.
I’m really liking this new project. It’s a refreshing change from all the usual ship modeling videos out there.
Glad you like it!

Bravo .De vrai doigt de fée.👋👍
Merci!
Amazing work Olha! Are we done with the disassembly or are you going to be going further into the hull? Can’t wait for more either way.
I finished on the deck, but there is still something to dismantle on the hull))))
Благодарю

I use music from Artlist. I download everything I like and then in the editing process I choose something to suit my mood...

Este es un modelo privado.
Hello Olha, again a interesting video. Thank you for sharing. For what purpose are the small metal-rings on the deck? Greetings from Germany!
I would also like to know that)))) I think that the modeler simply glued them to the deck without installing eye-bolts, because he did not rigged the gun-carriages - so he simply saved time in this way...

Hi Olha, great job. I wanted to ask you, how can I polish my San Bartolomè? What oil do you use? Thanks

I was wondering if a keyboard vacuum would be useful on this project?

Is that a heat gun thats being used to unglue the cannons and rope?
Yes it is!
This looks like it’s going to take more than a few months
Indeed it is...

Y una mini aspiradora?
¡De ninguna manera! ¡No quiero destruir este modelo!
Ольга в конце видно вы чем то брызгали из баллончика, что это такое ?
Просто воздух! Все материали и прийоми описани в субтитрах...
I feel that this is torture for you! : (
Why? I love tools, especially quality tools, so I'm happy to show them off and how useful they are!
