  • Bertie and I walk around the garden and there are still interesting plants to see. The rare Gladiolus flanaganii from the Drakensberg mountains, hydrangeas large and small, Dahlia merckii and other delights. We look at the south facing raised beds full of colour.

Thank you John for your wonderful garden walk - such colours.. Wet or just grey and cold, and bereft of flowers thanks to greedy wildlife; even Rhododendron buds pillaged. Peter did slaughter the Sweet Bay, blocking the odd bit of sun and my "jolly Mahonia", A cry of pain meant he'd found that, My magnificent Hydrangeas, n pots are smaller than yours, same types, but my garden is smaller! Evergreen shrubs are thick with buds, many need' 'Lammas growth' is a name to remember, thank you, and the built-up border is definitely one to help mine thank you! Bertie looks more bouncy!

Luckily still much in flower here right up to the frosts (c. December here) The terraced beds have been very successful over the four years we have had them since we moved out of the old house and into the walled garden We had to tame a steep south facing slope to have a level lawn area in the middle. It has worked well, I think. Yes, bouncy Bertie’s is a good companion in the garden!

We came from a property with ancient 'bits' much altered, a garden full of old trees. Its lodge (not ours then) had a 600 year old Yew. Millions of bulbs' huge copper beech, plants I'd never seen. Nowhere to put them - starting from scratch and still scratching!@@johnmarston2699

Thoroughly enjoyed this. You have a beautiful garden with lots of plants that are new to me. I recently bought a Chinese Foxglove so it was good to see yours. Poor Bertie!

Many thanks. I do try out many different plants with differing success but enjoy the challenge. Yes Bertie disgraced himself at the groomers!

Hydrangea aspera can set seed. Yes. Seedlings are variable however.
      Thanks for watching. John
