Lychnis has to be one of my favourite plants. The healthiest last year in my garden were the ones that had self seeded. Hope you're both keeping warm in this cold snap.

We love it too but it's not self seeded for us yet, probably the seed gets buried under the mulch we give in the spring. Looking forward to having many more plants when they germinate. It's been a bitter week, hopefully better will come next week as we're tired of de-frosting the car! Keep warm too and take care. Xxx

Thank you for this video Paul. Looking forward to seeing your lovely garden this year. My husband is the (novice) seed sower in our family! My lychnis didn't even flower last Summer - it is in a pot and I am thinking that maybe it's too small. Hope you're both well.

You're very welcome Suzanne, we are excited for the new year ahead too. If the Lychnis is still fairly young, that may be why it didn't flower. Hopefully this year it will. All the best.

I've had Lychnis for years, it's incredible value for money accept I didn't buy it, it was growing it's cerise blooms in a cemetery about 20 years ago and I took one seed pod from the plant and have had it ever since. It self seeds everywhere in my garden and places itself in some of the most unusual places lol. I have a question; when is the latest you can sew these? as I noticed you uploaded this video 7 days ago? Is late January too late to cold stratify? Thank you for sharing this video, new subbie here from South Yorkshire :)

We would say at least 4 weeks before the warmer weather comes so you still have time as the cold weather in February in South Yorkshire (we know it well from when we lived in Sheffield) should be enough to give it the treatment it needs. We've grown it in each garden we have lived and it's such a welcomed sight when those beautiful flowers open and you see the wildlife enjoying them. Thanks for watching and subscribing 😀😀

How do you take care of your liatris seedlings over the years when they're too young to bloom? How old do you let them get before planting them out? Curious because I'm trying to sprout some native bulbs this year and they'll take a similar time to bloom and I don't want to kill them in the meantime!

We will be looking after them in pots once they have been pricked out and grown on. When we decide where they are going, we'll plant then out when they are large enough to compete with the other plants in the borders. This may not be until next year. The corms however can be started off in pots and then planted out in the summer. They should flower the same year hopefully. Good luck with your bulbs.
