    Hands down the most honest and delightful deep dive into the nitty-gritty of a rather particular motorcycle.
    This is one of those specific videos you'd always imagine could never exist but you always hope that it does.
    As my first dabble into the motorcycling world, I got myself a Mash Fifty Scrambler a few months ago. Slightly different model but practically the same overall.
    Now, even though it's new you know it just won't stay that way forever, so you start looking into how to maintain and repair it when the miles start to add up. Because the manual that came with the bike is written rather confusingly and only gives you the basic rundown, saying to most maintenance to "have it checked by the dealer", I got more than a little frustrated with the prospect of working on it because it seemed kind of a hopeless task. Add to that, that people online point out that it's cheap and it's crap and all that sort. I mean, yeah, it IS pretty cheap and it may not be built to the standards of quality that more established brands hold themselves to but, as you pointed out, there are still many merits to it and I think they are a genuinely good time to ride. Still, I think you should be able, or at least be enabled to, work on your own bike. And this video is why that isn't so scary anymore. If anything, I feel more informed about what parts tend to wear out quickly and what things to look out for are. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and experiences.
    This is what the manual should have been but come to life in video form. Absolutely amazing.

      Thanks so much for your comment. I really missed a manual too, especially the instructions for maintenance. I have been a technical writer for many years, and I have written many workshop manuals. I thought a video would be a good format for an alternative sort of workshop manual. Glad you found it useful, and good luck with your Mash!

      @@Carnold_YT Good call, this video is amazing. I've been working on scooters for 2 years now, and plan on buying a broken mash 50 as a restoration project and to get some practice for an eventual motorcycle license. This is better than a workplace manual. It might not have all the torque specs, but it has all of the experience and that's what really counts.

    Great Video and full of very interesting Information. I am a 17 year old who is going to be a motorcycle mechanic and my project for next year is going to be „completely transform the 50ccm 4-stroke to an 80ccm 2-stroke“ so i‘m „installing a different bike into a Mash 50 cover“. Thats how you can describe it

      That sounds like an interesting project! What engine are you going to install?

      @@Carnold_YT Probably like a Simson S51 Engine or something like that. I am really about to build the moped of my dreams!! (With all the electric of the Simson because its pretty simple in comparison to other brands)

      @@Carnold_YT hi, I have the same Mash Fifty. Nice little moped. Do you know if a workshop manual exist for this engine?

    • @Carnold_YT
      @Carnold_YT  4 місяці тому

      There is no workshop manual for the Fifty. The owner's manual does describe some adjustment procedures and basic settings.

    hoi, vraagje wat voor meter heb jij bij de olie vul dop?

    • @Carnold_YT
      @Carnold_YT  3 місяці тому

      Dat is een olietemperatuurmeter. Mashpoint in Lelystad verkoopt ze.

    Hello i'll need your help , i'll got the same motor on my archive 50cc café racer , this is the exact same motor... my problem is i'll got no spark at all , I changed the spark plug .. then the high voltage coil , and when i'll opened the coil ( excitation and impulse coil ) are bathed in oil , is that normal ? i'll bought a new stator unit but until i'll get an answer its hard to think about putting it back in , after that i'll just have the cdi unit in line to change that ... can you put me in the good direction please ?

    • @Carnold_YT
      @Carnold_YT  3 місяці тому

      I'm not sure if the coil is filled with oil, but it certainly can be the case. Usually, ignition components gradually go bad over time, they don't stop working all of the sudden. I would recommend to check the ground / earthing of the coil first. The second thing I would check is the CDI unit, these can go bad pretty fast. Also, check the wiring of the stator, CDI and coil. Do all wires have continuity, maybe some wire rubbed through and is now broken. Let me know if you can find the cause.

    Waarom gebruikte je de momentsleutel niet op de bouten en moeren aan de binnenkant van het blok?

    • @Carnold_YT
      @Carnold_YT  7 місяців тому

      Eigenlijk omdat ik nooit een 1/4 momentsleutel had en 'm in de loop der jaren ook nooit gebruikt heb. De bout in de schakelwals heeft een beetje Loctite, die heb ik vastgezet met het principe 'vast is vast'. De slagmoersleutel heeft een instelbaar bereik, deze heb ik op de aanhaalmomenten die Honda voorschrijft ingesteld. Met de moeren op de krukas (vliegwiel en koppeling) kan er weinig misgaan, die heb ik honderden keren met handkracht vastgezet. De momentsleutel vind ik met name belangrijk voor de carterhelften omdat je stalen bouten in aluminium draait - het moet goed vastzitten, maar je draait ook zo de schroefdraad uit het aluminium.

      @@Carnold_YT Juistem. En de boutjes in het vliegwiel? of is zeker zo altijd goed gegaan dus niet nodig geweest.

    • @Carnold_YT
      @Carnold_YT  7 місяців тому

      In de koppeling bedoel je? Meestal sla ik een centerpuntje in de rand, dan blijven ze ook zitten. In mijn eigen Honda ben ik het vergeten weet ik nog. Die heeft het 75.000 km volgehouden en rijdt nog steeds :-)

    Wel jammer dat de uitlaatgassen zo schoon zijn, maar dat je het blok na 25k km in de dump gooit. Waar is dan de winst voor de planeet?
