Having watched this video several times I am of the opinion that what we're seeing is about 2% watch unboxing, 8% dad humor, and about 90% skillful parenting. Kudos to this clever dad for teaching his young son that one does not need to pay Rolex-level prices to buy a quality watch.
Absolutely agree. Setting his son up for success in life by showing him that one does not have to keep up with the "Jones'" in order to get quality in life.
Enjoyed that. I'm a Rolex owner, a number of them over the years, including a DRSD. Sometimes people take themselves too seriously. Loved the review and if I had an extra sub sitting around, it'd be yours. Well done getting your child interested in horology.
Actually, if you consider a 10k-100k watch as a watch only, that doesn't make sense. That is an investment. People seldom wear it. And the one who more often wears it also buys much more than a watch.
Thanks for the fun, lighthearted review! It was great listening to you and your son talk about this cool watch, joke about Rolex and enjoy making the video together! I recently purchased a Steeldive SD-1972 (Seiko 6105-8000 King Turtle homage) with the Seiko NH36 day/date movement inside. It isn't quite identical to this Captain Willard homage, but very close and it wears just as perfectly. The overall QC, fit and finish and looks of it are astounding at the price being asked. It's become my favourite every day piece in my collection, regardless of brand, movement or price. These watches are just astounding, and every example I've seen in person has been better built and had better alignment than any official Seiko I've ever owned. Keep sharing your love of watches with each other and having fun sharing interests. If you continue making reviews together, that would be even better! All the best!
First time watching, and love the father and son duo. Entertaining as well as informative. A good break from a lot of the straight forward reviews I watch. Kudos.
The thing is, $10K doesn't get you a Submariner. You need all the moneys plus two years of kissing the authorized dealer's ring to get a Submariner. I'm going to buy a Submariner homage one of these days, and this model is on the short list. I might even go for a quartz-powered model so I can add it to my grab-and-go box.
Lol!!! "...so you can look at how to improve your submariner models." Absolutely hilarious. Well done, you two. A shining example of how fathers and sons should get along.
Apparently some people didn't understand your sarcasm. I looked at the title and I knew I was going to have a good laugh. Thank you very much for this review, I think I'm gonna consider one. Not because I want to get by just to let people know that I have a Rolex when 99.99% of the people who know me knows I couldn't even afford an Omega 😂. I'll gladly let people know it's a Steeldive rather than sporting a replice of a even a fake Rolex.
What a fascinating accent, to my ear it sounds 80% English and 20% Canadian (I live in England) ..are you ex-pat British? Great entertaining review, I have two Steeldives, they're very good value. All the best to you both, thumbs up. btw I actually tried to get through the clingfilm packaging on mine with a Stihl chainsaw because my scissors broke, the chainsaw is also broken and I used the unwrapped clingfilm to tow my car out of some mud ...so yes, great packaging.
This review is cracking me up. I like the tongue-in-cheek on some of the things you guys were talking up. Gotta say though Steeldive does make a pretty solid watch for the money.
I've just got my steeldive hulk and it's just easy the best hundred pounds I've ever spent on a watch , I'll now got four steeldives and I'm actually waiting for number five the fifty fathoms brass watch , it's gorgeous.
I own a Rolex Sub (Sultan) and the SD1953 (Cermit). Brand presence and investment value aside, in terms of a quality tool watch the SD is IMPRESSIVE. 1) The SD has a ceramic bezel. Something my older Rolex (16613, c. 1998) does not have; 2) The SD is NOT a certified chronometer...though it's as accurate as my Rolex. Go figure! 3) The Rolex has, hands down, a superior movement by just about every measure. Except that my last Rolex maintenance service cost me $1100. There's that. One could simply buy and replace NH35's every 10 years for a lifetime...and never even consider maintenance fees on an SD. 4) Robbery-a Rolex is so valuable it may invite a thief to take your arm, along with the watch. As for the SD...just hand it over with a smile. The SD1953 is a very well made tool watch that I tend to wear, daily.
I bought one of these yesterday. Waiting for it to turn up. Yes, I could afford an Omega, Rolex, whatever. However, I just can't justify the price tag to myself, as beautiful as they are (although theres an Omega Speedy that's really wanting me to buy it). And as I'm heading off on a pretty rugged adventure in a few months I thought that one of these would fit the bill. I'm not about to take a Rolex etc on a safari with crocodiles, mud, salt, sand, sea and God knows what else. Sure, I'd love a real Sub, but there's no way I'd buy one. Well, not at the moment anyway :-)
Fully understand. When I was single and could afford one, I took the plunge on a new 16613 Submariner. Wore it daily for years (alternating with a Glashutte Senator) and had it recently cleaned/refurbished by Rolex for a cool $1100 (yikes)! It sits in a safe now, as the watch has appreciated to a point where I would hate to scratch it and only take out from time to time for special occassions. When the kids arrived on the scene, other priorities took center stage (i.e. Mini Countryman in...Porsche Carrera OUT). Today, I alternate between good watches, mostly automatics with Seiko movements...some that my dad bought over a decade ago (from TV...shop NBC, etc.) with Swiss VJ 7750 movements (those deals are over as Swatch ETA shutdown that supply chain)! I had a Hulk version of the Steeldive 1953 which I was wearing daily, until I visited my parents and my dad fell in love with it. I let him have that one and went on to buy a Steeldive "Kermit". The fact that these Steeldive's come with ceramic bezels, sapphire crystals, Seiko NH35 mechanisms, and very good S.S. fit/finish, makes them a no-brainer purchase in my view. Between the Steeldive and a heavy and venerable ANDROID automatic (c.2006, with Tungsten bezel/case/bracelet, NH35) that I bought second hand on eBay for $100; these are my two favorites. Rugged-scratch resistant-divers...excellent build quality...Seiko movements!
This was a fantastic example of great parenting. Just think, if you get him a car for graduation, you can convince him the Toyota corolla is just as good as the 812 ferrari he wanted. Cheers.
Lmao when you dropped it. Loved the instant punchline. You just dont get that.. with a Rolex!! My like and sub to this sub homage. And shoutout to your apprentice in training.
It’s hilarious when I hear that you buy a Rolex for the resale value, and investment, but you are paying $10,000 plus for one!! Meanwhile, you buy this Steeldive for $80 to $100, and you invest in other investments that will bring you more money than an investment in a Rolex. Yeah, a Rolex may hold its value, go up some, or go down some, but you are still paying close to $10,000, and more. The Steeldive will probably lose some value, but give it 5 to 10 years, it might be considered a wanted timepiece, and could be sold for more, or at what was paid originally, especially with a sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel, 300m water resistance, screw down crown, Seiko NH35 movement, incredible lume, and a much, much more robust construction than a Rolex since right off the line, the Steeldive has a thicker and stronger caseback, with common caseback slots that can easily be removed, and re-tightened with most caseback removing tool. I own a Rollie Sub, and that sucker remains in my safe box, and I sure as hell don’t ever swim with it, or beat it. Too afraid to even wear the darn thing with fears of even getting a scratch on it 😂
The amount of plastic wrapping/packaging the Chinese are using to ship a small simple item as a watch is shameful and disgraceful. Geez are you aware that all that plastic packaging will end up in the ocean? One thing is certainly true. Rolex is very much more respectful of the environment than the Chinese. On a different note, these Steeldive watches are amazing quality for the price, and look super nice too. However, repeating for 100 times that the quality of Steeldive is better than Rolex does not make it true. It's very silly actually. The cyclops on this Steeldive is a no--no for me because the magnification is waaaayyy too much. It just ruins the beautiful dial's look.
Thank you guys for the review. I just got to steel dive watches And I came 17 days later than it was supposed to, both stop every night and in the morning I have to reset them. I have no idea why there was no card in the box when it came. The watches look excellent I love the weight and the quality in the look, but beware because I got two lemons
This is an automatic watch with a 40-hour reserved. They are kept wound by the movement of your wrist or the winding of them. You didn't get bad watches. You just have to know how to use them. Pull the crown out one click and wind 70 to 80 times. You will get about 40 hours of use from that winding. That said if you wear it every day all day you will never have to wind it and you can let it set overnight and wear it the next day and the time will still be perfect.
... the video is more like a 'Children's Playtime' than a watch review... so much so, I was waiting to see if 'Sooty & Sweep' were coming out to play 🐒🐵
Rolex killer🤣🤣 You just can't compare these watches. One is a legend, the forefather of modern dive watches, myriads of companies have copied it - the other is yet another copy, cheap and chinese. If you have ever worn a real Submariner, you'll understand the hype.
This has to be a sketch!...... You won't get this on a Rolex ! I have a steel dive watch (50 fathoms homage no date with arabics). Very good value. Classy looking, but I'm NOT going to compare to the real thing. Not the best watch in the world, but iconic. You buy one because you Want one. Steel dive.... Good value homages which can be bought in the UK.
I've actually owned this Steeldive for almost 2 years now as my daily driver and can attest it is a solid piece; the NH35 is accurate and the water resistance is on point (gone diving with it). The blue AR coating gives it some pretty amazing views in certain lights, sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel are holding up well despite some beatings taken and it still looks new. Have seen some youtube videos reviewing the bezel action as wobbly or misaligned but the 120 clicks are superb to turn, alignment is perfect with no backplay on mine. Although on the lower end of homage spectrum it beats out Invicta for instance any day of the week, with the Chinese microbrands Q.C. problems are a gamble but I lucked out. Steeldive is traditionally known for the Willard homage but this one has turned out absolutely incredible for the $86 I paid

Absolutely agree. Setting his son up for success in life by showing him that one does not have to keep up with the "Jones'" in order to get quality in life.
What i like is that a Steeldive 1953 is what a Rolex sub used to be: a toolwatch. Not a safequeen for investment purposes.
Enjoyed that. I'm a Rolex owner, a number of them over the years, including a DRSD. Sometimes people take themselves too seriously. Loved the review and if I had an extra sub sitting around, it'd be yours. Well done getting your child interested in horology.
Owned this watch for just over a year. It’s been through hell. It is a little “worn” but it still keeps great time. Superb value !
The father and son duo is endearing. Great unboxing. Love the enthusiasm. Love the comedic maligning of Rolex 😂
Lovely review. I have a Sd1953 arriving in the mail soon. ❤
I wore Duros for years. Last week I got a Steeldive SD1970 Captain Willard...but now, I want one of these.
If you spend 10k for a watch, you definitely have no common sense. 🤣😂
That's what poor people would say
They have resale value and last a lifetime
Actually, if you consider a 10k-100k watch as a watch only, that doesn't make sense. That is an investment. People seldom wear it. And the one who more often wears it also buys much more than a watch.

That has been my experience with Steeldive as well.
That whole thing about having to kiss the dealers butt is crazy

btw I actually tried to get through the clingfilm packaging on mine with a Stihl chainsaw because my scissors broke, the chainsaw is also broken and I used the unwrapped clingfilm to tow my car out of some mud ...so yes, great packaging.
I had the same problem with the wrapping on my Steeldive 1970.
That's a different aproach to introducing a watch! Love it.
This review is cracking me up. I like the tongue-in-cheek on some of the things you guys were talking up. Gotta say though Steeldive does make a pretty solid watch for the money.

Well, that was different -- fun review. I have one on the way picked up on Ali sale this past week.
You guys are awesome! God bless you both 🏆
To actually think people who never got a rolex in the first place dont really have the right to speak up.
I own a Rolex Sub (Sultan) and the SD1953 (Cermit). Brand presence and investment value aside, in terms of a quality tool watch the SD is IMPRESSIVE.

Wait until you get your Steeldive. You will have even less desire to buy a Rolex.
Steeldive make great watches. You’ll be getting the ‘Willard’, next. That’s a great watch. I have one.
All the best 👍🏾🇬🇧
Nice fun sarcastic review, sorry for the haters who watch your video😊 Rolex can’t even put their watch on a zip lock, score for the Steeldive👍😁👍
I like your review man lol it's so helpful to me. Probably I'm gonna get it soon.
Wow, what a brilliant review. I've got one on order after watching your ace video. I wouldn't touch a Rolex now.
Came across this by accident, thoroughly enjoyed it guys....young lad wearing a duro, tip top that's watch game....🏴⌚🏴⌚
Rolex owner: I can afford it, you don't. Homage owner: You're silly.
If i wanna be rich i would buy you for the value you really have and sell you by the price you think you have. Just like your Rolex.
This was a fantastic example of great parenting. Just think, if you get him a car for graduation, you can convince him the Toyota corolla is just as good as the 812 ferrari he wanted. Cheers.
Lol at the hater in the comments missing the sarcasm. Nice video
Lmao when you dropped it. Loved the instant punchline. You just dont get that.. with a Rolex!! My like and sub to this sub homage. And shoutout to your apprentice in training.
Love the Rolex Bashing^^ hahah

The comments are great. 😂 Although there are one or people who take life, and themselves, far too seriously. 🙄
the bubble wrap was worth the price alone !!!!!
Thank you guys for the review.

Or just get a Invicta Pro Diver for $60
Unfortunately, your son will still want a Rolex when he grows up.😂😂😂
strap is low quality tin metal steel & has so many scratches already when you receive it !
You don't buy a Stelldive for the bracelet. You buy it for the remarkable watch. For the price that is.
I watched this to watch watches that watch watchers watch when watching watch watchers watches✌️🧐🇬🇧
Lol. Good times :)
... the video is more like a 'Children's Playtime' than a watch review... so much so, I was waiting to see if 'Sooty & Sweep' were coming out to play 🐒🐵
They must of only just started putting there logo on there clasp
F A N T A S T I C ! ! !
Brand from China is a no go
Open the damn package

5 mins to watch you unpack 🙄
he musta had a fake rolex the way he bad talks them.
You must be really fun at parties
Just a thought, but I doubt if the guy you know with the Rolex that's super light - yeah - probably not a real Rolex. ;)
hahahaha amazing duo
Hehe
😂

If you have ever worn a real Submariner, you'll understand the hype.
So cute how you brainwash your kid to be a Rolex hater. What other distorted ideas have you forced into his young impressionable mind?
If Rolex are watching this they will be laughing their asses off.
You are money face hater😁 you can’t take the fun sarcasm he is doing🤣🤣🤣

It’s still a POS.

You must definitely be the light of the day at parties 😂💀
And hopefully your last video - totally clueless but good for a laugh. Give up and make cat videos.
You are money face hater😁 you can’t take the fun sarcasm he is doing🤣🤣🤣
I have 2 one👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾❤️
Two more victims of the $100,000,000 per year Rolex propaganda machine. 🪦 🪦
