    I remember as a kid sneaking into my dad’s cigars and trying one and thinking how horrible it was.. Almost 40 later I smoke cigars same as my pops and have for many years of my adult life. I’ve gotten into a Toscano kick lately I love those little smoked Italian cigars.. but Greg, Thank you for all you do Sir! 🙏🏻

      In my old house,even the dogs smoked cigars, and grandfather made the commercials for cuban cigars for European magazines, all brands, but coiba. Before lightning it, he will roller it between his fingers next to the ear,perhaps to listen the fading moans of the sweating mulatas that roll the prajo...a wooden match .a look at the fired end just to see if it was burning ok..catched him a couple of times just biting the end of a Monte Cristo #5.
      After a aorta/and femoral bypass...I thank you! Grandpa.

    Excellent and informative video Mark well prepared and phrased. Nicola always loved his Dominican Primo Stogies with a fine older Conyac from a seared and sealed cask. Dad enjoyed his 50 cent Marsh Wheeling cigars and Black Velvet. Myself well when I endulged I was quite fond of Backwoods hand rolled Bourbon and Black cherry Cigars and the end of the day Jeremiah Weed or Ever clear Old Turkey or Granddads. As I progressed in years I come to enjoy the older Johnny Walker. Now all that's in the rearview for me. Stay Golden Mark.

    I'm a Maduro torpedo and rye man myself and I use an exceptionally sharp sheep's foot on my stockmans knife to finely trim the end from my cigars. I used to enjoy pleasant evenings with my late brother in law at his beach house and he taught me the fine points of cigars and whiskey. He was a reactor operator on the Hawkbill (#666) in the 70's by the way...cheers my friend.

    • @Jay22222
      @Jay22222 8 місяців тому

      I’m not sure I follow, by sheepsfoot do you just mean the usually very straight blade edge and a snub/bullnose blade profile?
      Or something else I’m not familiar with.
      Is there any particular reasoning?
      Using a stockmans knife or something like that I will often have a “working” blade and a “delicate” blade I limit the use of to keep it as sharp as possible for that exact type of thing but blade shape/profile generally isn’t too important.
      I’ll usually pick the one that’s smaller/likely to be less versatile to me as the “delicate”
      Is that your reasoning or something entirely different?
      I do like the fact that the sheepsfoot style I’m thinking of can be pressed against a surface and the whole length is making contact so you have no need to rock the blade at all or draw along the work surface below. I definitely feel cigars are the sort of thing where that can behelpful and prevent accidental tears.

    Yep, I used to buy double coronas from the cigar shop as they didn't break the bank. I could get a 2 1/2 hour smoke out of one. One trick i saw my uncle do was to lick the outside moistening it a bit. Sometimes I'd do lick one before smoking but get a little whiskey or scotch in my my mouth first before doing that. One thanksgiving i bought one of those honking big Davidoff cigars but it didn't go so well trying to smoke it in my dad's drafty shop with high winds blowing outside

    • @das_gruuben
      @das_gruuben 8 місяців тому

      @@life_of_riley88 I only have what my dad recommended for me: Borkum Riff Cherry Cavendish. It's fairly inexpensive where I live and is a damn decent smoke. Costs 2/3 the price of a pack and lasts for at least two days for a habitual smoker like me, where a pack of smokes would last a day at best.
      I hope you get your friends to try it. I converted after doing the math and figured out that I was spending less than half the money on my tobacco habit. (Maybe lead with that tidbit.)
      Cheers!

Another favorite of mine, that is a cheap smoke, but a very good and smooth smoke, is the Baccarat King Maduro (Presidente' size).
    Also, have you tried any of the Yellowstone bourbon? I've drank a lot of whiskeys, bourbons, and liquors, and for me, it's the best sipping bourbon to go with cigars. All the flavors just mesh so well together. It's a very inexpensive bourbon, too, at about $40 a bottle, but super smooth.

      It's something every man should experience.
      The trick is finding a decent shop, getting the flavor and the length of smoke correct.
      You can get a light smoke that will only burn for 20 minutes, or a heavy smoke that will burn for 3 hours, and everything in between.
      I like a heavy smoke myself. So once a year in Vegas I'll go to a cigar bar and treat myself to a nice long smoke. Pull the smoke into your mouth and let it roll around and just taste it.
      Decent bourbon is generally my go-to accompaniment.
      The thing about having a vice is moderation. A cigar every day probably isn't great for you, one every year or two is no big deal.
