REPOST: Sorry Folks, but there was one mistake I could not live with and had to re-edit the video. Being on the road this took me 8 hours to get back up again! Thanks for your patience, and thanks to the viewer for pointing out the error! SP
Slim Potatohead Oh my gosh, that road is crazy! I was actually just there with my daughter about 10 days ago and hiked in from the other side. We parked at the end of the road past Gothic where the sign says “4 wheel driver only-experienced drivers”, and hiked down from there. Beautiful scenery!! On another trip, we hiked up to Ice Lake west of Silverton, another incredibly beautiful place to see! A fairly strenuous hike though.
Grace Iovine , approximately 3 miles each way. The hike to and from Crystal Mill was not overly strenuous, I was referring to the hike up to Ice Lake. I remember that one being more difficult, partly because we got off the path.😬
Thanks for the memories!. I lived in Colorado for 28 years and traveled through the Eisenhower Tunnel and over McClure Pass many times. Beautiful State and I miss it.
Since my budget does not allow me right now to explore beautiful places as you do I would just like to say thank you very much slim potatohead for letting me ride along. I will continue to watch you're awesome videos
Dang! Just when you think you've seen the best that Slim can dish up, along comes a video that just breaks new ground with stunning scenery and color. Honestly, Slim, I don't know how you manage to outdo yourself time and time again. And to think that you do all of this on a shoestring budget with very modest equipment. Your creativity and resourcefulness are boundless, it seems, and ALL coming from a One Man operation. It's truly humbling to armchair travelers who are still planning their own escape. We appreciate you so.
Last June I took that trip in my 3/4 ton, extra cab, longbed Chevy... scariest 4 miles of my life! Took an hour from Marble to the mill! Had to drive through a snow avalanche that someone had carved out to get through....At one point I could see a flattened Chevy pick-up truck at the bottom of the cliff...been there since the mid-70's.
The Marble area is my favorite spot in Colorado! When I was a kid, dad drove a 1968 Cadillac ( long and low) up the Crystal road as far as Lizard Lake to fish. I doubt he’d make it now. Last time I was there my kids and hired a driver to take us to Chrystal and on around the loop. Gorgeous drive! I’d never try driving it myself, tho. I’ve heard the locals laugh about those that try with big trucks and Hummers. Those are too wide. I’m glad you made it up and back with no damage!
You caught the aspens fall colors at the exact right time. The Mill shot was gorgeous! Ouray is called the Swiss Alps of US. When I was younger I drove all over Colorado mountains. Never saw a cop. They don't have to worry about speeders there due to the absence of guardrails.
Once again I was captivated by the visual and story telling. Thank you so much. I am going to take my time to catch up on all you videos so I can savour them. Maybe one day I too might witness some of these gems for myself. 😁🦌🐿
Slim, great video as always. Your picture of Luna, with the Earthshine and Venus was great, however the picture of the Milky Way at dusk and then after nightfall was just gorgeous. Very well done. Also, sorry to hear about the less than courteous neighbor. Keep the great videos coming, its always great to see your adventures. Thanks! Mike
Here's a tip for traveling rough roads like you were on. Carry a small 12V air pump. Lower your tire pressure to about 18 lbs. This will both lessen the bumps and improve traction over loose rocks. When you hit smooth surface just pump up your tires.
Stunning scenery Slim! As far as generators go people should be mindful of others. I bought a quiet Honda inverter generator that is whisper quiet while recharging the trailer batteries. I use it sparingly to respect others camping nearby . Its the worst when someone shows up with an old construction generator and blasts everyone out.
Those Honda's are extremely quiet, and they last forever, expensive initially but pays off in how long they last. I had a Champion 3.5k for a while, it wasn't quiet but wasn't extremely loud...I got rid of it because why do I need to lug that thing up to the hills I'm going camping to get away from everything not bring all the crap along LOL.
I have been on that road to Crystal city in a Chevy equinox. To say the least it’s rough. Tire had to be fixed in Crested Butte. But love the scenery! Thanks! I’m in love with Colorado!
I found this channel and subscribed a short time back.. it has become a current favorite when I want to decompress and relax. My only complaint .. if you could even call it that , is I am always wishing the videos were longer. Especially this one .. I could have watched for at least an hour without even noticing the time going by. Amazing content .. great entertaining videos for those like me who are simply spectators... but really well researched tips and useful information for those who actually participate .. I would rather BE a participant .. if life was different.. but for now .. I can live a bit vicariously .. My favorites are ones like this and the ones involving cold ... for some reason I have always gravitated to the colder climes ... Well, before this turns into a little novella , I will close with a heartfelt thank you for awesome content ! : )
That route through Ouray, CO (US 550)is such a beautiful route. I've taken that route with a loaded semi, it is a challenge especially the tight curves, and steep grades but totally worth it.
I've lived in Arizona over half my life (I'm now 55) and I have never seen this place (the mill) and I've frequently traveled to Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico & Utah
You are there at the right time of the year to capture those beautiful colours of the Fall trees, wow that road was insane, and the beauty also, just so beautiful...! Thank you for sharing your fantastic video, the best!
Fantastic. You're really living the life. Hoping that one day in the future I'll be able to get an Aliner. I've been researching different campers and the practicality of the Aliners seem like just what I'd need. Thanks for the videos......the quality and production are excellent.
That was great. The scenery, the wildlife, the annoying neighbour (!) - and that landslide that was trying to pass itself off as a road. Excellent video!
I recently found your channel. Love your videos. While I travel in a 35 ft class A with wife and cats, I get a lot of ideas from your videos. You were in my area with this episode. I live at the other end of that road in Mt Crested Butte. You were on the good part of the road. Keep up the work.
Back in 2000 i drove my car to the top of Mt Evans (Colorado) which is a little over 14,000ft... up there it is just too cold (summer time) and the air is so thin that we could hardly breath and my car had lost a good portion of its power so it was dogging big time. Neat views up there above the tree line...plus there was still snow on the ground in late June. I loved Colorado.i think a lot of other people do to because i think its been one of the fastest growing states the last decade or more...so probably people everywhere now...
Your photography is as good as it gets, Slim. I've watched this video 3 times today & have it bookmarked for future viewing. Thank you for sharing such beauty with MEeee.
I always love your videos. Last September, my wife and I flew out to Colorado (being East coasters, this was the furthest west we had ever been) for a 8-9 day vacation all over Colorado including Rocky Mountain National Park, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Colorado National Monument, and more. While we were there, weather closed the road in Rocky Mountain NP so we were bummed that we didn't get to drive the whole way through, but the snow mixed in with the fall colors were breathtaking. Anyways, seeing this video reminded me of how much I miss the views and colors of the fall in Colorado.
You have a pleasant voice. Anyhow, this is easily my Top place to visit. You would think it would be easy to achieve having moved to the Colorado mountains but I never have time. One of these years.
Truly enjoyed this one! The Fall colors were spectacular. I visited the Marble area this Summer & it was nice to see it in all its color. Thanks for sharing your trip! 👍
Very nice video...especially since it was in my neck of the woods. You came through my town, Montrose CO. Glad you enjoyed your time here. I enjoy your travels and videos.
I bought my Jeep today! Not one like yours after all but I'm sure happy with it. It's hard to get far off the beaten path with a mid size sedan, lol. Glenwood is my favorite. Don't miss Hanging Lake if you haven't been there. Happy trails!
I've been to Crystal, CO. My friend took me and showed me a cabin he built in Crystal many decades ago and shared old stories of the Fogels. Sadly, he lost the rights to the cabin through some complicated family drama.
Great video Slim,You can't beat Colorado for great scenery,I have been through those same spots,I sure miss going there but the wife is not able to travel at that altitude any more so i will depend on your travels to keep me updated on all the great scenery of this great country,Have safe travels.
Hey Slim. Your videos are amazing. The quality of production is outstanding. There is something truly addictive about your channel. I am moving from the UK and will be living in a caravan. Looking forward to the experience. Joanna

Keep America clean, thank you. That’s awesome for picking up all that trash.
Thanks for the memories!. I lived in Colorado for 28 years and traveled through the Eisenhower Tunnel and over McClure Pass many times. Beautiful State and I miss it.
Gorgeous scenery and great tip about NOT taking your vehicle on the road the Crystal Springs! Thank you for beinging us with you on your travels.
Colorado is one of our most beautiful states.
Pilgrim, you are fast carving out yer place among the respected and admired Naturalists of our time! Keep up the good work!
Since my budget does not allow me right now to explore beautiful places as you do I would just like to say thank you very much slim potatohead for letting me ride along. I will continue to watch you're awesome videos
What great scenery!! The old town. ❤
Thanks! Like your videography/photography very much.
The tree colors in your country is mind blowing this is USA at its finest
Thismay be an older video but its really a delight to see. Plus i get to see your A frame pop up ..So its definitely a pleasing flashback.

Dear mr. P,
I'm not the subscribing kind of guy, but I never fail to watch your adventures. You just know how to live.

Crystal is beautiful and so is Marble and Ouray.

Man that old hydro station was too cool!! Shit like that never ceases to amaze me. Just gorgeous.

Marble, crystal mill and the crystal river, my backyard! Gotta love living here. Thanks for coming through

A+ production...you are my favorite boondocker to look forward to new videos

Love it! That is some FANTASTIC country!
The road leading to our remote cabin on Bass Lake is like that. We drive "Dixie" an 88 Toyota pickup with 4x4
Many people have gone over the side , try it in winter ,avalanches galore take my word for it
We are headed that way next week. Your video's keep getting better and better!
Very nice video...especially since it was in my neck of the woods. You came through my town, Montrose CO. Glad you enjoyed your time here. I enjoy your travels and videos.
