    Kenny, your puzzle about people being prone to grouping together...You're right, it's a safety thing..."I don't have to outrun that bear, I just have to outrun you."

    Welcome to my adopted home state. I adopted it while at Univ. of Wyoming back in the late ‘60s. Wyoming does have some beautiful country. I go there now to visit old friends and to be alone in the midst of such beauty in Big Wonderful Wyoming.

      I tell Mandy that one day, if I move out of Minnesota, I will go to Wyoming. I'd love to find some remote land off-grid and build a timber frame house.

    It's human nature to gather. Here's an experiment we did decades ago as kids. We had a 12x12 tent, we all started out the night in separate corners and by morning we were all near the center. I grew up in Cheyenne and recognize much of that area! It's funny, I ALWAYS tell people who want to go out west to STAY AWAY from the big parks if they want a real "western" experience. There are THOUSANDS of miles of dirt roads on public land with access to nice boondocking or small campgrounds out there. Even in a busy year like this, we were out for two weeks and hit spots like Thermopolis, Snowy Range, Green River, Lander, Vedawoo....and didn't have an issue finding a spot to camp. Much better than fighting for a parking lot spot in the bigger, crowded parks.

      You are so right. Even in this new age of campers there is still room for everyone. Like I said in the North Shore video " you get need to stretch your legs and get off the beatenpath" there's a lot of good camping left.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Another great video. We stayed in another part of MB... rode my bike for days, hiked for a few more. We have people camp near us all the time in wide open areas. We head out to boondock for the same reason as you do. I think you hit it on the head about the sense of security, in our experience most people will seek out "numbers" on the road. It can be frustrating sometimes for those of us who seek out the solitude of some epic boondock site in the middle of nowhere. I just smile wave, sometimes offer a beer and think "next time". Stay safe sir.

    I've only been forced to stay in a couple paid campgrounds and a couple RV parks. The noise people make when it's dark really disturbs my camping experience. Loud generators are the worst. That's why I don't like people setting up camp near my rig. Wow- We GOTTA GO, Kenny! That was Gorgeous! I mean stunning- that view (you wished Mandy &/or the Grrls could see it with you was stunning!) Now, I'll admit, it's more fun to go with a friend (yah- when did that happen?) but, even the 26 mile road out to Medicine Bow Nat'l Park was exciting. Switchbacks, views around every corner, vistas in every direction- that definitely was my favorite part of the trip so far. You are really getting more comfortable in front of the camera, I appreciate the small added footage of packing up the Mavic and going over yourself on that tiny rock butte- touches that make it real instead of a packaged video (I know, I know- originally- that WAS what you were going for, Kenny!) I think meeting those folks & chatting fer a bit, brought the "Why?" home & now you know they're watching too! See, it's growing on you! Lived in Boulder 2 years and would hop over to Wyoming to explore - such a strange and beautiful state - Medicine Bow area is amazing. The Snowy Range Road views should be top of your list (Hwy. 130). Curt Gowdy State Park is also great for mt. biking and camping close to the CO-WY border. Freakin' annoying when you want to get away and then dingdongs have to crawl into your space - and there are a zillion other camping spots open. The last thing I want to do when solo camping is chit chat. Watch for rattlesnakes - and mountain lions, especially with pets off-leash.

I won’t camp right next to anyone though because I like my own quiet space as I’m sure they do too. For sure, nimble as a 6ft 280 pound cat. The bike is a Rad Power Bike. It carries me with no problems. I take it on trails with no issues. Every once in a while, if I catch a little air and land hard, the battery will pop out. But I don't think it was designed to do jumps.

      I still use my truck when I don't have the camper in it. For that reason I like having a short bed single rear wheel. I would not fit through the bank drive through in a dually. With that being said if I could afford the truck and was building my dream camper set up it would be a dually with Ford 7.3 L gas motor. I made a suspension video showing what I have all done to the truck. In that video I mentioned that I prefer the single rear wheel and would not get a dually. What's the reason for that comment is because I simply cannot afford a different set up. I truly love this truck and camper though. I have a video coming out where my sixteen-year-old daughter is with me. And she drove this camper setup through Duluth and onto Minnesota's North Shore. She had absolutely no problem handling the truck and camper.

    When you’re out in the middle of nowhere and you see someone who is like minded in setting up camp, it’s reassuring that it’s okay to camp out there. It’s like an endorsement that it’s okay for you to be there. Lotta people don’t know what you know, about how to camp out by themselves. On top of that, you’re just a swell guy and they probably love the look of your rig as much as you do. They figure that you know what you’re doing, and maybe they don’t have the experience that you have. I’d want to camp next to a cool set-up like yours too 😃

      I was really pissed off at a walmart in page arizona. I parked far away from everyone. Yet a small van came and parked within three feet of my class c. I was kind of upset, but I was sleepy. And had a couple cocktails. About eleven thirty at night, a guy bangs on my door asking for change. I told him to go "away." About one o'clock, he came back. I told him to f off, and I got out of the vehicle. And he was going over to the van. She screamed. Apparently, he had been there for quite a while, just banging on her door. Ended up getting a little bit physical with him. As she called the police. Sometimes I suppose it's acceptable. I suggest that when people snug up to you, go up to them and ask how they're doing. There are many new van lifers out there that are single females. Many are scared, and it's the first time on the road. It opened my eyes. I try to no longer be a dick.

    I think people who do that are not feeling very safe, especially in tents. I personally think it’s more acceptable to be within eye-line, but as someone who travels with dogs, the more distance the better. Eye line is fine, but if you’re close enough that I can hear you speaking and we don’t know you, it’s not good for anyone involved 😂

      @KennyOfAllTrades  Рік тому +1

      I was using the Promedio rear view mirror camera. It worked really well for around 5 years. Eventually, the camera disconnect plug was allowing water intrusion. I had to replace the system a few weeks back. I showed that on a video 2 weeks ago. I went with the cheapest setup I could find. It called Jansite. It was 49 dollars off Amazon. I figured since all these rearview backup cameras looked alike, I would see if the cheap one performs like the 170 dollar Promedio. So far, so good. I'll update if I have any issues.
