Very nice work!!! With that budget in mind, it´s a masterpiece of remodeling!!!!! I have done my fair share of boatfixing in my days, I used to fix boats for the local seascouts, so I know the effort! So again, very nice job!
Wow !!!!! Love seeing people bring old boats back to life ! I've done several Catalina 22's over the years myself . Please keep the videos coming . Again, great job !
Excellent video! I have been making things with new plywood and West epoxy for maybe 25 years, and have never cleaned it with acetone or alcohol. No need: the epoxy and wood bond is fabulously strong as the epoxy seeps into the wood. Things I made in 1993 with ply and West are still hard as a rock.
Just found your sailboat channel You two are an awsome couple and an example for many to follow! Amazingly well done clips, few selfies and good music balance! Looking forward to view all your clips.... Cheers & Godspeed
We kind of consider the whole project to be a jury rig. Behind the scenes we reminisced about projects Robi worked on in Thailand in conjunction with woodworkers, welders, fabricators there...there's a specialist nearby for everything. This was all about making it as strong/simple as possible with the materials at hand. Thanks!
The boat looks great! I imagine it was difficult to stay focused doing this refit the way you always wanted it, knowing you would not get to enjoy it yourself. Had to be rough. Well done!
But.... I am understanding that the refit was a down payment for the new owners of incoming and next boat purchases.... creating a good financial solution and building skills and resumes for future purposes in funding the fun.... I may have to go this route to sell my very able vessel as well!
It wasn't the best financial solution, I would say. The new owner paid for the cost of the remodel, a couple thousand bucks for the cost of the vessel, and meanwhile we paid to buy food/visa Mexican visa run, missed paid work opportunities. But definitely gained experience, and good karma. Yes, we earned karma. Haha!
Justine, wanted to tell you a long time ago: you're a natural and wonderful storyteller. I'll bet that if you published a children's book it would be very well received. I have a strong hunch about this.
Super cool, almost makes me wish my boat needed more work...ok not rly🤣 Love how pragmatic you two are and holy crap those scupper through hulls were in a stupid position; good job fixing that. Must have been designed on a Friday 🤣
We have been worried that there must be some drawback to having made such big, new scuppers, but the new captain of Rossa hasn't seemed to have complained about them...
WOW ! I'm so impressed at what you managed to accomplish. Was that really just 3 months of work? I did a lot of work on My sailboat, but not ten percent of what you did. I also spent a lot more.
Yes, it took more than 3 months to do a lot of the previous work we did - rerigging, bottom work - but just the inside renovation was the little extra to make her seem like a comfortable, normal cruiser.
After having done some projects in the wet and cold versus the hot and sweaty, we're divided, 50/50. Hot weather makes the project faster overall, but slows down our bodies.
Yeah, we know that this is the case. It's funny how the places where it has been available so far, it flows very freely...almost like there are no restrictions...it's like, some ports have been very secure, with drug sniffing dogs/inspections, and other places - nothing. Just sail in with the breeze and sail out. Inconsistent.
Just can't imagine doing all that work without covering your bodies. Must have stubbed your toes a hundred times a day. And using the high rpm grinder without gloves or the guard? That thing could easily kick back and sever an artery.
So, this is the first video I've ever seen of yours, so maybe the answer is in previous videos.. But, why would you do all that work to a boat you're going to sell?
@@sailorama But, that was soooo much work... I would think, fixing a bunch of stuff would be good, but,you guy completely gutted it AND rebuild it...

please use plastic gloves for ANY work with epoxy.!!! READ Devlins' book where he talks about using epoxy in his boat designs and construction. you CAN get epoxy and chemical sensitivity so bad that it will cause you great harm , and preclude you from EVER coming in contact with it again.!!! USE GLOVES PLEASE.!!!!
You are right! We should use gloves. What tends to happen in these cases is we start out with all the safety equipment, and as time goes by in the project, we become more and more lax. Robi especially has a hard time watching out for his health...
Obviously not the ideal wood for this project, but that's a little melodramatic. The new captain of Rossa is happily sailing with her new interior, enjoying the simplicity and functionality of what is currently there - which is better than the rotten mess that we put up with for 2 years prior to that. Perhaps in another couple of years someone else can use the template to rebuild with higher quality materials.
@@sailorama I'm pretty sure your new interior is going to last longer than that......It's not like you built the entire hull out of epoxy and fiberglass coated pine. Yeah... a little on the melodramatic side.....
@@sailorama I think what he actually meant is that he is just another late night internet expert who gets off on criticizing someone doing something that he can not do in his mom's basement. ;) Personally, with 25 years as a professional mechanic, machinist welder and fabricator I imagine if I tried I could find some nits to pick as i watch your video. good hard work, well done

Good to hear. We were trying to give that wood a little extra help...it was just not very good plywood.
I’m amazed at how talented you both are. I truly enjoy watching your videos.
Thank you! We enjoy making them.
You guys solve so many difficult problems easily way... Like the osmosis in the hull, or a broken rudder.... Coool refit in 3 months! Wow!
Thanks - yes, it's all about problem solving, something I think being on a sailboat forces us to continue doing daily.
I like your approach to projects.....functional, strong, clean! Well done!
And usually overdoing things - but when sailing, that's never a bad thing!
You guys are awesome and your videos and insight into your life are a huge inspiration to me!
Awesome! Glad it inspires people!

WOW! Your timeline and budget are unbelievable, boy could I use you in a refitting I’m working on.
We do get wrangled into other projects from time to time haha!

Nice job renovating the Bucaneer. Valuable knowledge for the new project. Best of luck with the new boat!
Yes, every project a stepping stone. Thanks for enjoying!
DAMN !!! That is impressive work.
very entertaining to watch you guys remodel the boat. i love it
A pleasure to share. Thanks!
your Robbie is pretty bloody clever - he'd find good work anywhere - all the best to you both
perfect complement to each other
Thanks, yep, we've always got some project going down because of him...
Sooooo impressed! She looks amazing!
Just a little quick project, glad it worked out for the new owner!
Also, if you're heading south at any point, keep and eye out for her - she's a shiny white boat now, not red anymore...

Looking forward to editing it all up.
Epic effort! Someone's going to get their hands on a lovely boat. Congrats
She's already out and about sailing!

very good thanks

Goood job!!!

Hot down there should of done that in great lakes -5 to 40 f degrees last 4 months. plenty of ice to stay cool

Great job! 👍
Acetone is difficult to find in Mexico. Due to its use by narcotrafficants , acetone is subject to license.
@Nellie Rutten Such is life. Maybe explains why the catamaran neighbors are still on the hard after one year there !
