Navigation Plotting is an essential skill for working in the maritime industry. This video is an introduction to some of those concepts. If you've spent lots of time on the water, but have not pursued a professional license, you should consider yourself a candidate for an Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV) 6-Pack license. This license allows you to charter vessels with up to 6 paying passenger and is the first step to a career in the maritime industry, full-time or part-time!

This man is a great teacher. I've never learned well from books, the steps never seem to line up in my head, but when this gentleman teaches anything about navigation it makes perfect sense.

Oh yes, subscribing too. Very helpful and very clearly explained. Thanks.
This is an amazing amount of information presented in such a masterful way of teaching. Pretty much everything anyone needs to know about chart plotting with the exception of Course To Steer, which Captain Dave Medeiros presents on another excellent video.
Big thanks from Sweden
Thankyou for the vid.
It was well explained and easy to understand
Might even go buy a boat 😁
Enjoyable video. With electronic charts and GPS / Chart plotters some boat owners never utilize paper charts. I always liked having them on the boat.

TIM King Thanks for the feed back. We will try to put together a tides and currents video for sure. We are always looking for suggestions.
This made it soo mch clearer how to plot thank u
This is a really an excellent tutorial on chart navigation. I love collecting maps (cartophile, if I may put it that way) and am passionate about manual navigation (using compass + maps for groun navigation) without the aid of an electronic positioning equipment (GPS). Though, I am not a professional or an amateur seafarer, still I wish to learn about this in more detail. Could you please tell me, where I can get the nautical map from, the one like in the video? Also, I would like to know from where one can get latest information on the ocean drifts for a particular location?
Thank you again for this excellent and lucid video presentation.
Try richardsonscharts.com. Not sure if you'll find what you are looking for but they may help. Caltopo.com is a free topographic map download site for land and they may do navigation charts/maps as well but not sure. Has to be free download sites for what you are looking for but...good luck!
I was able to find some free full size maps by placing a want ad in a local online service (similar to Craigslist) A fellow that salvaged boats had plenty of them. They may be out of date but work well for practice.
I don't even own a boat and this is intriguing!!
You dont need a boat for this to be useful. It also works with your private jet.
@@obiwanfisher537 O yes. Got 2 of those!!
A very good video that explains what you need to do to understand your position over time taking into account the current. I hate maths and am crap at maths
... but, isn't this fun!
awesome video
Thank you Sir.
Love it, too, but I got confused over what appeared to be as measuring distance with the dividers on the horizontal scale...I thought you cannot use longitude to measure distance. I'm preping for ASA105 this coming weekend and I don't even sail YET! Someday.
Very helpful. Thanks
ua-cam.com/video/UyqVk1YeBxE/v-deo.html
