After watching many J-series videos, I have seen how hard it seems to be to get good angles and footage while working on these. Excellent job on the camera work, easily the clearest visuals and explanations I’ve seen so far
Parts cleaner, q-tip, compressed air, q-tip again. Damn man you're thorough as hell. Great video.
I'm a complete novice here trying to keep my '05 Accord running. 297K miles. I've already done several repairs using 'UA-cam University', but I have an oil leak that's getting the best of me. I'm going to try my (small) hand(s) at attempting these three areas with your help and crazy-thorough advice. Your one-handed camera angles, and lightning, are SO appreciated! I've watched other videos that left me with more questions than answers because I couldn't see what they were talking about, and wasn't familiar with it, not being a mechanic. I'm learning, and I want to thank you for posting videos like this to help me keep my car running. I'll be sure to let you know how things turn out. 👍🏻
Thanks for the kind words. Good luck with the repair you got this!
Great video. Great pace and focus on what matters without a bunch of nonsense. Really appreciate that!! Have a friend with these issues who asked me if I can do the repair for him, this was perfect!
Much appreciated!
RESPECT! My 2000 Accord 3.0 has this oil leak at the filter and this confirmed it, thanks for a great vid
No problem glad I could help.
Just did the valve cover gaskets on my 2003 Odyssey. Pro tip - go OEM on gaskets, had to replace Amazon crap after only a few thousand miles. Don’t save your money here, you’re already saving by doing the work yourself.
Dude, this is very helpful. I've seen a lot of these videos and for once I didn't have to jump forward to get to the real shit. You were very succinct very exact and did a great job, thanks.
victor machado thanks man, I try, I’m glad I could help!
You the best man ! You have a new subscriber!
Thanks for this video! Also... 9:17 is that the original oil filter?!?! 🤣 My God!!!
Just got a 2001 3.0 Accord ex and might have to do all of these. Looks like a nightmare but i only have 150k miles and need it for work
Excellent work. Best part was the comprehensive explanations. If you are not a top-level pro, you've certainly got me fooled.
Thanks for the kind words David, I hope the video helped. Viewers like yourself are why I put the videos up. I appreciate the support.
Thanks for the video! Great info and well done. Have an 01 Accord with 312,000 miles and just recently started smelling oil burning and noticed the bottom of the oil pan is wet, gonna do the oil filter housing gasket for sure. Thanks again.
I’m glad it helped thanks for the support.
What is the plastic plug thing next to the coil packs on the left of the front valve cover gasket I’m leaking from there and don’t know what it is
Thanks for a very helpful video. FYI, your link for the valve cover gasket kit is the same as the one above it. It would be super helpful if you know the part number. Otherwise, I can just look it up somewhere.
3.0 but has very similar looking parts to the 3.2 and 3.5 v6's
- 3 oil leak potential areas
Its recommended you replace the gasket under the Vtec solenoid thats attached to the Oil Filter housing since you already have all that removed.
You can also address that gasket when you change the timing belt. Thanks for the input!
The sensor removed was the camshaft sensor?
Finding it really difficult to get even the front cam cover off. Wow. Just stuck on there. It rotates and I’m marring the outside being careful.
How do people do it ?
Pull the bolt out so it is just in the cover and gently put pressure. You’ll get it out.
Great video. I plan on doing a similar video for our 4th gen Odyssey, which has the same bad actors!
Do you drain engine oil before changing camshaft seals or disconnect battery?
9:11 - your EGR valve doesn't have a gasket? My 1999 Acura TL has one there--it actually caused a drivability issue and needed to be replaced.
Best video I’ve seen vet seen you are amazing, I have a 2005 ex accord v6 , my low oils sensor comes on and off, I replaced the oil , did a engine slug flush, added Lucas oil stabilizer, but I’m still having sound sounds which I would describe like a slow ticking, rattling , but not terrible, I think it’s a faulty oil pressure sensor Switch, I do have a nice old oil built up next to the sensor above the oil filter housing, but I don’t have any leaks atm , would you recommend me change the oil pressure sensor? Would that help , please if you get to read this let me know I would
Love to hear your advice, one last note I wanna make, engine runs good but with those sounds I explained above and also seems like it’s like a misfire sound, I have you got all that, please let me know what you think, thanks and god bless
Great breakdown in this video 👌👌 Wonder how hard it is to change the oil pan gasket.
on this car you have to remove the J pipe which is easier said than done depending on rust
@@wolleyreikivalley gotcha thanks for the reply.
There is no oil pan gasket. The oil pan is sealed to the block with RTV.
the leak in the solenoid housing vtec has such remedy to the leak because I have the same leak and I thought that the front crank seal was the cause of the leak ? thanks for feed back
Same on my acura tl 2005, vtec seal was leaking and the bottom of the motor an chasis was a real mess.
Best video I’ve seen
Whats the round about cost for this job?
thank for you info work for my honda 114 where you location im in connecticut
Did you end up using 15115-p8a-a01? I might have missed it in the video but I'm curious where it goes.
Great Video...well done 👍
You had four gaskets and only replaced 3! Where did the last one go?
looks like that was the oil pump seal. you can replace it when you’re charging the timing belt but the oil pan has to come off as well (and so does the y pipe so it gets a little complicated)
Great video!
Video on cam cover
My TL has been leaking so far I’ve done intake manifold gasket, spark plug o rings, v Tec solenoid seal, that oil filter housing seal, oil pressure switch o ring, and I still have a leak! Gonna check the egr area now thanks for the video
Thanks for checking us out. Really look good and check the rear valve cover gasket, that’s a sneaky one as well. What side is the oil dripping Pass / Driver?
114 RIDES checked the egr area no leaks, I also did my the rear valve cover gasket. The oil accumulates on the the bottom of the oil pan and on the bottom of the transmission area it is not much maybe about a few drops of oil everyday. My fear is that it is coming from the rear main seal or the oil pump. I finally have more time I am determined to find the leak
Ace my only other suspicion would be a new oil pan drain bolt with washer, oil pan gasket, or potentially the crank shaft seal / rear main. Good luck keep me up-dated.
114 RIDES rear main seal (cries)
How do you go about changing plenum gasket and what the name of gasket kit you need
awesome information
Great job on providing excellent information. You showed a somewhat Figure 8 shaped gasket at 1:00 minute. Did you pass on installing it?
I passed on that particular gasket, I’m waiting to get in there when I do the timing belt.
The figure 8 gasket is the vtec solenoid gasket
@@garza1367 It’s not the VTEC solenoid gasket. It seals the oil galley between the oil pump and the block.
Super Helpful Thanks!
My 79 Olds leaks way less oil than my 07 accord v6. It’s unreal all of the oil leaks these accord v6 have.
Paul what model Olds? I have a Mondello 455 in my Malibu that’s dry as a bone. 🤣
@@114RIDES Gutless Supreme with the 4.3 V8 ….slow as molasses
At least you riding clean in a G Body.
Thank you 🙏
What’s the seal number
On the oil filler cap it clearly says 5w20 but you are using 5w30, what gives ?
5w20 winter 5w30 summer
Very good video I like it a lot thanks man.
Lithium grease eats rubber. Use silicone maybe?
Thanks for the tip, no leaks yet but we will keep that in mind.
Yep assembly lube or clean motor oil works fine
@@OneKauz Clean motor oil is best because that’s what the gasket is designed to seal. You know that it won’t harm the gasket.
Great video! Thanks!
Thanks Player
I have a 2002 acura mdx. It doesn't leak any oil when i have it just running in the driveway. But when i jack the front of the car up high enough to get both wheels off the ground. it starts a steady drip of oil on the ground on the back driver side right by the inner tie rod is as far as i could follw it up for right now. Could see where it had run down the back side of the engine by the inner tie rod but couldn't find it after that. Any ideas?
Double check the valve cover in the rear first. It could be leaking there and pooling up in a groove. Your best bet is to scrub the engine down with some simple green, wipe the area you think the oil may be coming from and keep an eye on it.
Also check your oil level frequently to see how much it’s consuming. Are you positive it’s engine oil? Let me know how you make out.
Hi Glenn. Check this video out ua-cam.com/video/tTb15E-Yk6U/v-deo.html
Did these three gaskets help solve the oil leaks for you or anyone else in the comments?
Really appreciate the video and details!
I’m guessing no. On a J-series, the biggest problem gasket is the figure 8 seal between the block and the oil pump. And he didn’t replace this one.
Thank you so much for all this info.
Not a problem! Thanks for watching.
You mean 6 mm Allen bolts for the coils ?
Rahjah
Great video; but why 5W30 and not 5W20 or 0W20?
The car calls for 5w20 I like to go heavier when the weather is warm. Thanks for the interest.
@@114RIDES is there a noticeable difference?
You think the cam cap seal will leak all the way down to the trans area ?
It’s hard to tell, def a possibility.
Words of advice. Don't put synthetic in an older Honda with over 100k miles it will eventually leak out of the valve cover gaskets. It's not worth the trouble. Also always use the recommended weight that the manufacturer shows on the oil fill (i.e. 5w-20)
Thanks for the advice Carl I hope you enjoyed the video.
I used Amsoil most of my Accords life. Lately using Mobile 1 high mileage. After 288000 miles still running great! However there is still that pesky small leak on the rear manifold. Some seals have already been replaced.
Amsoil is great just hard to come by sometimes. We have been running Mobil 1 30 weight spring / summer. 20 weight fall / winter no complaints.
I’ve been doing fine with synthetic. Even if synthetic DID cause the valve cover gasket to leak, replacing the valve cover gasket is not too difficult. I would GLADLY do the valve cover gasket if it means being able to take advantage of the wear advantages of synthetic oil vs conventional.
Do these leaks also apply to the 3.5L J35Z3 motor from the 08-12 accord v6 6spd
Yes you can expect similar issues over 150k.
Mine has the same leak right now
Thanks for tips great video, I'm subscribed
Thanks for the support!!!!!!
mine is leaking on the passenger side
Identifying the leak is 3/4 of the battle. Grab your 10mm and get busy!
Very cool
Simply amazing perfectly explained video . You deserve more subs +1 for me
Thanks JRod I appreciate the support! I’m glad you liked it.
A+++👍
Puts 5w30 in a 5w20 recommended motor
5-30 spring / summer 5-20 fall winter.
Perfect
Thank you
👍
Damn. I would hire you as my mechanic if I could. How many hours of shop time should I pay a shop to do this? [2003 Honda Accord V6 6MT]
My best guess would be 2-3 hours. Good luck!
Hi, awesome video. Fyi, it looks like you posted the same link for two different gaskets.
Thanks for the heads up 👍
Thanks
Rahjah
What's the mileage
We are at 180k
I have an Accord V6 with 191k and it never leaked a drop of oil
The car lived its entire life in Hawaii at a consistent temperature. As soon as we shipped it to the East Coast the swing in temps have taken a toll on many of the consumable parts. Thanks for watching!
@@114RIDES I'm on the east coast too
was that oil filter in a fire? lol wtf
Thanks
