You guys have seen the full series, so I'll point out something a lot of people miss. The price taken by Truth (the entity beyond the gate) for human transmutation is never random. Ed lost his leg because in the beginning he refuses to ever ask for help, wanting to "stand on his own two feet". Al lost his body because he wanted to feel his mother's touch more than anything. Izumi lost her internal organs (making it basically impossible for her to get pregnant again) because she was trying to bring back her child. Mustang is a special case. Truth took his sight because he had a "grand vision" of the country under his leadership, but it was damage that could be healed, because Truth recognized Mustang didn't open the portal willingly. Pride forced him to, and that's why Pride is falling apart in this episode: the majority of the price for Mustang's human transmutation came from Pride's stone.
So the "Dwarf in the Flask" aka "Father" used Hohenheim to gain a tremendous amount of souls from Xerxes. Half of the whole country went to Father and the other Half to Hohenheim. Legends say that a great Powerful Alchemist came to Amestris, "The nation Fullmetal Alchemist takes place in" from the East, bringing them Alchemy . In Xing, the nation where Ran Fan and Ling are from, legends say a Great Sage came from the West to teach them Alahestry. These two people are of course Father and Hohenheim and the nation or former nation of Xerxes exists between these two nations. Now we skip centuries into the future, Hohenheim is living in Amestris and starts a family. Somehow down the line he somehow discovers Father's plan, whatever that is and leaves his family to do something about it. Now note that Sloth dug a huge tunnel around the nation and wars were raged over the span of centuries to spill great amounts of blood to "Mark" the land to help create the giant nation wide transmutation circle. Also Father has his Laboratories which more than likely have Philosopher stones in them to also help in his malicious designs to "Swallow God." In alchemy, this was in a much earlier episode you guys watched, Ed and Al are reading their father's notes. They come across Alchemic concepts that the Sun represents Man and the Moon woman. Combine the two together and you get a perfect being, aka God. So Father has put in place a plan to use a Nation as a giant transmutation circle, his own Philosopher Stone inside him, the 5 laboratories, the Blood stained areas where wars took place, and 5 sacrifices. These Sacrifices must be people who did Human Transmutation and survived. The reason it was deemed illegal was probably to tempt "Competent" Alchemists, who were smart enough to try it and survive, to receive knowledge from the Door of Truth. So you have all these pieces and top quality sacrifices all working in tandem to be activated during a Solar Eclipse to help Father use a shit ton of energy to open the Gateway of the Planet. Along with the Gateway of God *i.e the overlapping moon and sun which represents god* forced open through Alchemy, the Law of Equivalent exchange deems that Father has presented enough sacrifices *i.e. the nation of Amestris citizens* to gather all the knowledge and power that exists in the Door of Truth and apparently devour God himself. That's what you guys witnessed with the huge door opening on the planet and a huge Father manifesting himself. The Eclipse represented God, the planet houses its own Gate, and Father used that Gate to Force God to come down and be swallowed by him. At least that's what I believe. Been a fan of Fullmetal Alchemist since like 2003.
It's worth mentioning that the souls weren't evenly split. Hohenheim had an odd number of souls. And I don't father would have given him one more than himself.
In this episode, Ed finally acknowledges the fact that he is small, outwitting Pride. Scar finally accepts alchemy completely by fighting with the reconstruction tattoo of his brother, getting the upper hand on Wrath.
6:06 Scar never previously had that tattoo. The only reason he had his brother's Circle of Deconstruction was because he lost his own arm in Kimblee's attack, and his brother deconstructed his own arm before using his Circle of Reconstruction to graft it to his brother, at the cost of his own life (seeing this arm in place of his own is part of what drove Scar psychotic in the hospital). Since recovering his brother's research notes and deciphering the counter-transmutation circle, Scar realised the vastness of the stakes that were in play, and decided to commit heresy: he had his brother's Circle of Reconstruction tattooed onto him, the design from his notes. His right arm was given from pain and destruction... He has used his left arm to try and build anew.
“Anything you desired, rest assured I desired it first.” The thing that eventually proved Father wasn’t bad at heart in the beginning, but he chose to travel down a dark path, shedding his desires, and becoming the mostly emotionless creature he is now. It’s sad, really. Still, all that matters now is he needs to be stopped.
@@azrael_morningstar it was his goal of seeking perfection that Truth implied was okay, his denial of his origins and refusal to grow as a person and arrogance were the things he was punished for. Aside from that, as far as Truth is concerned, he did nothing wrong. From almost any other perspective he did plenty of wrong
I remember watching this episode for the first time with my friends. We just sat and stared at each other with our jaws on the floor for what felt like 5 mins.
They did called the sun and moon/man and woman together (an eclipse) a pure/perfect being, in other words "GOD". So kinda makes sense of what we just watched.
There's so many good videos on UA-cam that talks about "truth" and the philosophy in fullmetal alchemist. Need to check some of those out. Also the voice actor for Bradley is one of the best. Don't forget to check out the trailer for the new live action fullmetal alchemist.
i always forget how many episodes it takes for the final fight because when i watch the show i tend to binge it. can't wait to see what you think of the opening for the next one!
The last 4 episodes just Father enjoying his retirement, growing crops, and feeding cats I think you guys already know it, but too shy to say it that the eye in the sky is God himself 😁
Truth and the Eye in the gate are the same thing the white silhouette is a reflection of ones self in its most fundamental aspect that Truth uses to interact with one in the withe void that you could consider limbo nor heaven hell a metaphysical between reality and an afterlife.
Now that you guys are approaching finishing up one of my favorite anime, I have to ask about another. Have you guys ever thought about reacting to Fate/Zero and Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works?
Heya from a fellow Texan. It's an unpopular position, but I enjoyed the original animated series. I know that Brotherhood more closely follows the manga, but in the Shamballa movie there is an epic fight between Gluttony and Wrath. Some prefer Brotherhood. I like the og story and explanation of the homunculi.
I feel like absolutely nobody notices this anime is practically based on the Bible in some aspects, I still don’t understand how nobody notices the religious implications of this anime. Even the gate of truth shows the world tree also know as the Tree of life.

It's pretty spot on. That's actually what hapened. I couldn't explain it better than you did.
Remember Ed's interpretation of the damaged mural from Xerxes? "I shall strike God to earth and become a perfect being."
It's worth mentioning that the souls weren't evenly split. Hohenheim had an odd number of souls. And I don't father would have given him one more than himself.
@@Nobody_Cares42 I mean, you can halve some even numbers to get an odd e.g. 10/2 = 5. They could have had 536,329 each.
I love when writers can shake up their whole world by adding fantastical/outrageous concepts but keep the overall tone of the series consistent.

I thought it was to get the Shake Weight.
@@brucechmiel7964 Ten minutes a day, every day!
This Anime is so epic, I reviewed it after 10 years or so and God it was even better on that second watch, Still in my top 3 Anime I've seen.
I'm curious, which are the other two
Just keep watching until this becomes your number 1 fictional story period anime or otherwise lol.
RIGHT I rewatched it 7 years later and now it went from almost being my favorite anime to being my all time favorite. A literal masterpiece.
i've got 3 comedy slice of life that i like more than FMAB, but since they're only comedy, i don't rewatch them as often as a drama like this
Sounds about right to me. Og 03 fan here too btw

He actually did nothing wrong. He jyst tried to become a perfect being which truth himself suggested was not wrong.
@Soul. yup some people just want to know the truth to life and everything.
@@azrael_morningstar When did Truth say that? I remember him insulting father and saying he deserved the punishment he was getting.

@@angramainyu9220 basically when father what was wrong in seeking perfection he replied with nothing implying there is nothing wrong with doing that.
6:06 "I bought that shake-weight you see on TV! Ten minutes a day... EVERY DAY!" ;)
The writing and depictions on this episode are unreal. No one thinks Father is going to obtain his goal... and he does. What a hero of a villain.
Intro: "I wanna know what is their purpose!!"
Later: "Nooooooo! I don't know anything!!! Nothing makes sense!!!" 😁
"No! I don't know anything! Nothing makes sense and I'm still so confused!" LOL, this is so a mood.
It's always hilarious seeing people react to this episode.
I remember watching this episode for the first time with my friends. We just sat and stared at each other with our jaws on the floor for what felt like 5 mins.
Father absolutely won. But the game ain't over yet. Think of it as halftime.
I’d say it’s the fourth quarter with 10 minutes left
They did called the sun and moon/man and woman together (an eclipse) a pure/perfect being, in other words "GOD". So kinda makes sense of what we just watched.
Welp, that’s all folks. Father won and everyone died. The end.
Fun fact the other arm tattoo wasn't there when he had his jacket off
Now the show turned into Neon Genesis Evangelion xD
As a wise man once said: *We’re in the endgame now.*
