    I listened to this whole debate. I do not think this was a debate about carnivore versus plant based. I think this was a debate between two people with different conceptions of reality. Where the carnivore advocate did not believe in absolute truth, that leaves no way to establish hard fact, which means there’s no way to conduct scientific inquiry. I don’t see how he can call himself a scientist if he does not believe there’s any such thing as absolute truth. If truth is as relative as what you believe, or I believe, then science has no standing in life.

    • @Chaotist
      @Chaotist 2 дні тому +3

      Precisely! That's the biggest issue these days, relativism and especially moral relativism. It's the sickness of mind which prevents any further growth or even a healthy functioning in daily life.

    • @jgreen9361
      @jgreen9361 18 годин тому

      You have basically nailed the argument. I would question the term absolute truth though. Science works on probability. When all the evidence points at one conclusion we have overwhelming weight of evidence, not absolute truth. We don’t know the significance of what we don’t know. What this Carnivore guy does is take anecdotes from Carnivore advocates and elevates them to the level of truth. He is like the guy at the roulette table who sees people winning 50% of the time on red or black and decides to bet on zero. He may get lucky personally, but telling everyone to bet on zero is going to disappoint a heck of a lot of people eventually.

      @@lotismade First, nobody is claiming we are meant to eat grass like cows. Veganism is about consuming a wide variety of plant-based foods suitable for human digestion and nutrition, not grazing on grass. This comparison is misleading and irrelevant.
      Second, pointing out that humans are not herbivores doesn’t justify eating animals. Just because humans are anatomically omnivorous does not mean we need to consume animal products. Modern science shows that humans can thrive on a completely plant-based diet at all stages of life. Being capable of eating animals is not a moral justification for doing so.
      Third, claiming the real issue is 'sustainable and ethical sourcing' ignores the inherent problems with animal agriculture. It is neither sustainable nor ethical to exploit and kill sentient beings unnecessarily, regardless of how it is done. The most sustainable and ethical choice is to avoid animal products altogether.
      Your attempt to frame this as a compromise between coffee and cows completely misses the point. Veganism challenges the exploitation of animals altogether, not just the 'unsustainable' or 'unethical' parts of it. If we can live without harming animals, we should. That’s the bottom line.

    The rhetorical move is so clear: Instill fear, uncertainty, and doubt. They don't need to win the debate. All they need to do is make us second guess the very clear evidence for plant-based diets.
    That keeps meat, dairy, and eggs in the dietary rotation. At best, listeners simply _reduce_ our meat consumption like we _reduced_ our cigarette consumption in the 1970s.

      "Rhetorical move"? It sounds like you don't believe there is any substance to the healthy effects of animal based food. If so, you definitely haven't been listening to what has been going on. I assure you, their objective is genuinely about health, not instilling fear & doubt (like comparing meat to cigarette consumption in the 1970's). If you follow some of the carnivore or keto channels, that good new about animal based food is spreading more and more. Illnesses are being overcome. They are tons of upsides to animal based food. Expect to hear about studies in the near future also.

The World Health Organization, based on over 800 studies, has classified processed meat (bacon, ham, deli sliced meats, canned meats, others) as a class 1 carcinogen like smoking cigarettes. Red meat, beef and pork, is classified as a class 2 carcinogen. The lifetime risk of developing colorectal cancer is about 1 in 23 for men and 1 in 25 for women.

I'm not sure why it's hilarious to you, but I've read that if you don't have animal protein for long enough it impairs brain function, and also causes anxiety and general irritability - perhaps your need to bang on punctuation keys repeatedly and find simple concepts funny is related to that.

You need to learn about the hierarchy of evidence mate, anecdotes are at the very bottom for a reason.

      I read some years ago that the red dye injected into meat was banned from baby food. Just as bad for adults.

    @11:00 Just wanted to add that this entirely explains why meat eaters have an inflamed look to them. Over the years, as they get into their 30's, 40's, etc. they all look "thick" or inflamed around their heads/faces and their entire body regardless of if they workout or not. You can tell almost immediately if someone eats a lot of meat, it's a long-term effect, but it's not "old age", it's purely that you're treating your body poorly for decades and overtime it starts to reveal itself. The most obvious/direct form of this is arthritis in the fingers/joints, which is literally just inflammation being caused by lifestyle/environment.

    Does this mean that I win a million dollars?!
    I used to eat some animal products, but not much.
    I had Ulcerative Colitis. It was so bad, the doctors wanted to remove my colon.
    I switched to a plant based diet. To go in remission, I ate nothing but bananas, papayas, and steamed sweet potatoes (soluble fiber). My gut healed. After coming out of remission, I added back in plants only. That was 7 years ago.
    I am still in remission. Also, my Iritis, and asthma all went away.
    But wait, there more. My wife, who was told she couldn't have children biologically, also switch to a plant based diet after I did. Suprise of our life when she became pregnant, and now we have a very healthy 2 year old running around!
    Fiber is king!

The meat and diary industry are feeling the pinch on their profits and the carnivore "movement" is their way of striking back, people's health be damned. There are no long term studies for carnivore diets minus the processed foods. Unfortunately, it will take decades of data collection to determine the status of carnivore. What we do know is that plant based diets are better for all cause mortality, but we don't have data for carnivore. Today, it's a gamble to go carnivore, but it's not valid to conclude that carnivore is bad until the data is documented. We can predict what happens to most things that go into the body, it's not always what we think. I think it's too early to predict carnivore outcomes, but staying plant based is a safe bet.

      They have studied populations like the Inuit and seen significantly higher rates of all-cause mortality and lower life expectancy compared to surrounding populations that have increased plant consumption. From this you could probably infer that a carnivore style diet would be a risk long term, but like anything you can't say for sure I guess.

His theory, and I’m not sure I agree with it completely, is that because pig is the most genetically similar to humans, there’s something in the pork protein that helps repair arterial damage. What he cites is that in America we die of heart disease and the Japanese tend to die of strokes, but in Okinawa they have fewer strokes. This is part of the reason they live longer. The doctor theorizes that it’s because they eat more pork than any other prefecture of Japan, and pork protein serves almost as caulking.” Dan Buettner

    I am a vegan and I struggle with strong allergies. It would be easier for me to consume meat, not gonna lie, no IgE symptoms whatsoever. I am most of the time on a very constrictive diet if I do not want to have gut issues, bad dermatitis, breathing issues or general MCAS or allergy flares. As I think veganism is the best solution for the environment and ethically superior and also the healthiest diet out there (and my blood counts are exceptionally good better than my peers), the point that allergies can restrict your veganism is for some of us with high IgEs against pollen etc. a LEGIT POINT. But I know I am an outlier and a sicker person with fucked up genetics compared to the average citizen, and I agree that for them this diet should be EASY, the biggest issue is the hedonism and cultural & collective pressure/bias, let's be honest meaty dishes taste good. I cannot personally eat high amounts of soy, lentils, peas or pea protein, fruits, chocolate, nuts or seeds without serious issues and negative general symptoms (itching, allergic asthma etc. you name it). I am also sensitive to glutein and do not tolerate milk protein (especially casein) well. I am constantly on a heavy dose of anthistamines, C-vitamin, quercetine, asthma medication and consume mostly rise, oat, corn, cooked carrots, broccoli and cauliflower, frozen berries, beans, table sugar, salt, (2g of cocoa per day) and avoid heavy amounts of spices. I am an athlete and eat for performance and health but it is a very restrictive and ascetic diet athat not many of the common folks could handle. I have been used to it dictated by necessity and I also am a person willing to make sacrifices for the greater good. But my life would be easier if I consumet meat, I use heavy amounts of rice protein to fill my high protein needs that is usually well-tolerated. I also eat minimally fats and as many carbs as possible to support my sports and muscle building endeavors. So the point that some of the carnitards or omnivores are making about allergies are true for a High-IgE person. This is an anecdote and I am aware that I am an outlier, but this is a reality I have to live with on a daily basis.

India has tripled dairy consumption since the "White Revolution" of the early70's specifically designed to increase it's contribution to the economy resulting in ever greater numbers of a fat, diabetic, heart diseased population. Hindus have always consumed milk because of, among other things, it's perceived connection with Krishna. India is growing fatter and sicker every year because it's successful economic growth feeds the increase in "western" food : animal food and ultraprocessed food. A literal disaster.
