One of the most simple but best thing to learn. Going fast is probably the best feeling you can get when riding. Just having the vision and feeling of boosting a huge air or just making it out a 10 point barrel. I love the tutorial and love everything about it! 🤙
Frustrated this afternoon with shorebreak low tide in Oceaside CA. Kept getting closed out on and paddled in and watched the waves for about 10 minutes. Riding through those sections seemed possible if I could just figure out how to get more speed. Just caught your new video, it should definitely help me. Thanks Iain, you're awesome.
Thanks Iain, after years of surfing I’ve recently come back to bodyboarding and really struggling with generating speed and holding it down the line. Definitely gonna take some of these pointers into my next session 🙌
My whole channel is about Bodyboarding on the artificial waves (Flowriders, Pro Flows, ect.) so I'm surprised these videos don't come up more often. Completely different sport though. I've chatted with hundreds of Bodyboarders who can't 360 on a Flowrider and its easy to see why from these videos because the positioning is so different.
Thanks for making this video. In South Florida there are not many bodyboarders, so asking a buddy for feedback is rare. I’ve been having issues with picking up enough speed to make it back up the face of the wave to hit the section at the right time. After watching this video I’ll try to be more cognizant of what I am doing with my fins and weight distribution.
Hoooo, excellent as usual, thanks bruh! Staying 'high on the wave' is kind a challenging without herbs man! 😂🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽 Fellow spunjahs no worries living in the fast lane. Just go out there and send the speedingtickets to the champ! 🥊
Love all your videos but this is a great one because it is a benchmark for how we should be riding to make things a lot easier and give us as much potential as we have. Bodyboard size ALWAYS gets tossed into the discussion when SPEED is the subject With speed being the subject of the video. Question: If you wanted more speed that all the technique possible cannot help you to get... Will you opt for a longer board/same length but wider board/or a same length but bat/quad/etc. board?
This is a very interesting thing. So… When it comes to speed a bigger board will always be faster but you have less control. It takes more to dig the rail in when you bottom turning but the surface area is going to keep you going faster. When it comes to bat/quad/crescent tails… I’m busy with my first quad board now so should have a first reaction video soon. Also I don’t think there is much difference between bat/crescent tail boards when it comes to speed.
Well, 30 years past when i start this sport. Left it 10 years and came back again xD. And this is a nice vid to see a nice examples. The positioning is crucial so u can get more speed to make your triks. Well done dude.
I noticed on my videos that I was always way too far back on my board after watching this tutorial. I started leaning forward and noticing how much more speed I got
Some fun wasmves at el frontón today, focused on late takeoffs, clean lines and looking ti the hit point...so usefull for the timing and higher airs, step by step but i can feel the change 4 sure. Thanks champ😎🤙🤙
Could you please make a vid about pipe cuz I’m gonna be going there this winter. I am confident in my bodyboarding skills but some tips and pointers would be nice
When are you going? I’m planning to head there too. I don’t have anything specific. But watch the weight distribution video I spoke about. It will really help with bottom turning pipe waves.
@@iaincampbell_ I’m going throughout the winter dec- end of jan. Love that your videos are in depth. Quick question how deep is it at pipe. And how should I fall off my board to not get into serious accidents? (Sorry for all these questions)
Bro luv all ur vids, u rip man & are so humble ...hope 2score some slabs with ya one of these day's. One thing I feel may help ppl with tutorial vids is after u break the wave down bit by bit for moves etc, play the same wave a few times afterwards just as it was filmed so we can see everything just learnt, in action & at real speed. Thanks again Legend 😊🌊🤙🏼🤙🏼
Thanks for this video!! Very useful :) could you please explain how to choose a bodyboard, and talk about the rocker of a bodyboard? I have seen that quite a lot of brand new bodyboards have a big rocker and somehow are difficult to control. Would you also choose a PE core on water temps of 12-15°C like Portugal ?
I have done a video about how to choose a board but I will be doing an update later in the year… PE cores are good but it’s an entry level/beginner/intermediate board. Bodyboards straight out of the factory shouldn’t have a huge rocker. That would be a defect and should be sent back. Leaving them in the sun or in a hot car can also affect the board badly as it will start to reverse rocker. Finding a board that is flat on the bottom with a slight rocker to the nose is key and can be done simply by placing it flat on the ground.
Hi @IainCampbell I’ve just discovered you on UA-cam on my adventure as I return to bodyboarding after many years of other hobbies. Love watching your Raw footage. I much prefer you GoPro extender pole rear mount - over any other POV’s. That gives me a great idea into what is happening on the board and also gives me the feeling that I’m actually riding myself. I’m currently looking into getting one of your PRO series boards sent here to Australia. The lime green and Black “Theory” edition.
Hi Iain. Re boogie everyday merch. The website seems geared for the international market, which is great, kuddos. Is there anywhere around Cape Town where we can pick these up?
Iain, OK so when I try to maximize speed on the upper portion of the wave face (the high line) I already have my hip on the inside corner (to the wave face) of the board. My chest is lifted up, Biceps at 90 degrees (to the board) and I am as far forward on the board as I can be. Now you say to take both flippers out of the water which makes sense (less drag) and I have tried this but when I do it I usually start loosing all the rail I have dug into the wave and my board will slip sideways away from the wave which is all bad. What can I do with my weight distribution in this scenario in order to lift both of my flippers out of the water and gain more speed but still keep the rail dug in?
You need to make sure the inside rail is engaged. From what you’ve just said the inside rail is not engaged. Best thing to do would be to figure out how to engage the inside rail in order to not slide out when lifting the things out of the water. It’s difficult for me to help without seeing where you are going wrong on a video or photos.
@@iaincampbell_ Yeah I think I have come to depend on my inner fin in the water to engage the rail and keep it there. I know the lower on the wave the harder it is for me to engage the rail so I will try a few adjustments. Thanks for the reply. I wish had photos but I almost always go out alone and here in San Francisco Ocean Beach and I would not trust leaving a camera setup on the beach.
@@EmmaDaisy Now that I am thinking more about pulling both flippers out to minimize drag and hold the rail, it happens more often, it really seems to depend on my weight distribution and also habit. I like ruddering the board with my inside flipper and I tend to rely on that to hold the rail vs body distribution. Leaning a little forward into the face and not arching up to the max seems to help hold the rail when both flippers are out of the water. Thanks for asking.
@@apolopena awesome, congrats on achieving that! I guess summer’s on its way to your side of the globe soon, hope you can get out there as often as you want and shred some clean waves!
I got crushed last week in a shorebreak at redondo beach , first time had the wind knocked out of me by a wave , was hurting the next day and the next day 😂😂😂
This video is super helpful. I’m most comfortable dropping to the right but i can’t get much speed but wen I drop to the left I’ve notice that I’m so much faster even with out fine adjustment. Maybe I’m just over thinking or adjusting my right drops. Thanks Ian, for the tips. Just need more practice and practice.
