  • During Jeff Hubbards tour to the UK to promote his awesome brand HUBBOARDS we were lucky enough to sit down with the man himself and delve into the mind of someone who is widely considered to be the best and most formidable bodyboard aerialist of all time.
We put together a set of meticulously thought out questions to try to find out some of the factors that enabled Jeff to become such a phenomenon in the sport of bodyboarding with his aerial talent.
In this video we talk about who his inspirations were as a young grommet growing up on the beaches of Hawaii.
We find out about his motivation and driving force to put it all on the line to get noticed by the industry and get respect from the locals.
It’s widely speculated as to why Jeff seems to go bigger and better than many others. We talk about how it could be due to his timing and ability to hit the lip with optimal speed and precision that allows him to bust massive airs and put him one step ahead of his rivals.
It’s all very well having impeccable timing and wave knowledge but how does Jeff pluck up the courage to hit those mutant ramps? Although he looks fearless on the videos, does he actually ever get scared and what goes through his mind as he stares up at those 10 foot lips?
What equipment does he recommend using to bust big airs and what has he found has helped him over the years?
What are the best waves in the world for busting extra large airs, and finally if he could give just one tip for the aspiring aerialist what would it be?
Sit back and enjoy this magical 10-minute guide to busting big airs on a bodyboard with the man behind the legend that is Jeff Hubbard.
Huge thanks to Jeff for the interview. For the champions brand of boards, suits and fins check out their website here: hubboards.com
And a big thank you to Boogtique for getting Jeff over to the UK and setting up the interview.

I can air , roll, even air s and reconnect on air spins, it happens easily, I can even land usually, when I was unwell and out there all the time in shore breaks I could finish and complete the wave, in recovery I very very rarely land and carry on going, I land very often behind the wave or stall without thinking, very often it’s the waves way of telling me that the rides ended, Jeff Hubbard thanks I will practice I’m only 36 and I love bodyboarding and plan to do it for life so I will practice. Hubbard is in another dimension probably from doing it time and time again. I have today a fresh set of skills and perspective amen

I remember the first time I saw a bodyboard to do an air. It was Mike Stewart doing a roll on ESPN the contest was televised. Blew my mind and every time I went to the beach after that I always tried to do one I live on East Coast so the waves aren't that great but I was able to do it a couple times

Me too! I saw that giant air roll at pipeline Mike did like 5 feet above the lip. My walls were covered with pics of Mike and Ben Severson. I was at Huntington beach bodybording and Mike was out. We were on the North side of the pier, I was going left, he was coming at me going right full speed so I pulled off the back and he hit the section and did a giant Air reverse like I never seen before! I'm talking around 1990. He was levels above everyone else! I'm sure Jeff got alot of inspiration from Mike.

@@troycote4503 yep that was the contest at pipe. I remember he did it legit above the lip and must have dropped like 10feet to flat. Considering I think it was the first one ever done in a major contest He laid it down sweet and set the bar real high on how it should be done
