Thank's David for this lesson about this fantastic guitar player who's Mr Henderson ! I'm from France and I watch all your vidéos on youtube, your are a very good teacher, and your vibrato is smooth and magic ! Thank's for all of your lessons !
I was lucky enough to attend GIT in 90 and went to every Scott and Dan Gilbert session I could. It really took my “rock” playing to a different level. Those guys are definitely on a different level.
I was checking out the school. And I heard a jam. I asked counselor. You have a student that good. He goes that scott Henderson. He is a teacher. He goes. Go ahead sit in . He asked me to play. I played heartbreaker. He said. I could sit in as long as was in town. There was only 5 or 6 people. Sitting in. I couldn’t believe it .
Thanks Dave, my fingers are not at all pleased with you🤣 yep, bits and pieces of these are going into my lick bag…what a monster player Scott is👍 Best Damn Channel Out There🤘
My favorite S.H. album - Tore Down House. Beautiful music, incredible musicality - one of the great albums. If you haven't heard it, you have missed some truly great music and guitar playing. Go treat yourself to an emotional journey and a somewhat jaw dropping experience!
Henderson has been my favorite player since the late 80s, and one reason he's never left the top of my list is how he has continued to change and improve over the years, to the point that today he sounds like an entirely different player than he did 40 years ago. And what he plays today is just so self-assured and mature, it sounds like he transcends the guitar and simply speaks the language of music. His vocabulary alone is unbelievably vast. Great lesson, thank you.
Saw a clinic in Atlanta in 1986. Steve Freeman brought him to town, great clinic! Nice guy among all else. Very sincere person and wonderful to learn from. I came away with such inspiration. Thanks Scott.
Scott plays the blues like no other player in the world. An amalgamation of major and minor pentatonic, straight blues and jazz scales, and lord knows what else. It's like watching the history of every music genre in one lead solo, in one bar of music. Quite amazing, half the notes are out of scale, until the next half throws the last half out of scale, perplexing. It's like the first time you saw Bugs Bunny pitch a baseball, "Watch me paste this pathetic palooka with a powerful, paralyzing, poifect, pachyderma, percussion pitch", just brilliant phrasing.
YES!! Thanks Dave, I'm a huge Scott fan since 1987. Of course I can't play much of it, but you can see why! Haha but thanks for doing it. You play those licks great. Scott is just an all-time great fusion (blues/rock/jazz/anything!) player and musician!
Saw this one instructional video where Scott was playing this pentatonic lick, and he accented each note in the lick with a vibrato bar scoop. The effect was way cool!
Yeah, man, Dog Party is RIPPING!! My exposure to Scott came through Dr. Hee, which is difficult to find. I wore that cassette out big time. Then hearing him on Chick Corea's Electric Band album destroyed my brain. Great stuff, Dave!!
Scott's one guy I haven't seen live but wish I have. Such an amazing player with killer phrasing. Tore Down House is a fun album with some great guest singers as well.
West Palm's very own wonder child. When he comes to town every guitar player shows up. Last time I saw him everyone was talking to him in the parking lot after the first set. We were out there so long most people thought the show was over and left. Scott goes, "Oh shit, I gotta do the 2nd set!", and runs in to an empty house. He starts playing with me sitting alone in the front row. After two songs he goes, "I'm not doing this." I say, "C'mon, just one more." Then he says, "No, and I know what you're doing." I say, "What, stealing your licks?", and he goes, "Yeah." Of course he was joking although I did pick up a thing or two. He signed my CD 's and thanked me for coming out to the show. I'll never forget being serenaded by Scott Henderson alone in the front row mere inches from his guitar wizardry at the Orange Door.
Great lesson David. Im a huge Scott Henderson fan, from the first time seeing him jamming in one of the rehearshal rooms at GIT in 1982. Right through all his recordings. I took a lesson last July via Zoom with him. Sometimes amazing musicians are not the best at teaching, for whatever reason. Not the case with Scott. His ability to convey more complex musical ideas and theory to less advanced players is the best. Hes very patient and talks to you at a level with which you can understand the information. Great player, composer, teacher...and fckin funny (had a few laffs at the end of the lesson)
@@stevengrinold3203 great players usually dont have patience with their students and they assume that every student is on the same level. SH is one of a few.
Intense stuff! I think I might have borrowed the Dog Party CD back in the mid 90s from my friend Per Nilsson (Scar Symmetry etc), who went to the same high school as me. I definitely listened to it on his recommendation. But it was a bit to advanced for me back then. I’ll go back to it for sure!
Great lesson, love Scott Henderson’s playing! I have Tore Down House and Well to the Bone, now I gotta get Dog Party! The third lick you did with the unison playing reminded me of a lick from a Shawn Tubbs pedal demo (Sinvertek distortion pedal, video from July 2022). It’s one of my all-time favorite guitar licks, at about 1:04 in the video, it’d be great if you could check it out and maybe put together a lesson on it and some of his other licks.
Very cool… Those are definitely part of the Scott Henderson vocabulary. I once tried to work on the solo to “Stoopid” on the album ‘Illicit’ but I can’t figure out how he’s doing it. I’ll bet you could …
Cool. I saw them twice at Toad's place in CT. in early 90's. Willis was a bad ass, but he definitely didn't steal the show. The band was sick - Covington on drums, Kinsey on keys and Willis. I agree they definitely pushed each other
I knew this wouldn't be easy. Great job.

I would add Face First and the Vital Tones ones as well.
Wow Dave! That was out there! Where's the fire extinguisher?
This was awesome thanks so much as always - cheerz and rock on🤙
i salute you and thx for your videos
Thanks, Scott is a genius !
Once again, great work! That second run really got me.
Love your videos! Keep rocking!
Ha. I was in the same class with Scott H and Frank Gambale in 1983 at MI above the wax museum. Scott sat in a practice room from morning till night.
Totally jealous man!

I’ve never heard of this guy, but these are some seriously crazy licks.
Gee wiz, once again you nailed it!
I learned some of Scott's stuff second hand from a GIT dropout and name dropper back in 1989.

Now that you've done Scott, you should do Landau!
He has !!!

Great video! How do you get your tone?
I'm not sure but didn't he write instruction columns in Guitar World at 1 point, funny if David says it's hard its going to be frickin hard 👍🤘👏
Funny story about Tribal Tech. Every time I’ve seen them Gary Willis steals the show! Him & Henderson really pushed each other.

Wow, can definitely make use of every one of those licks.
Check out tore down house by Scott,he has Thelma Houston Whitney mom on vocal. That song has da PERFECT STRAT BLUES TONE
Yeah, that album is sick and she kills it!

Thelma isn't Whitney's mom. Her mother's name was Cissy. They may be related though
