- This apartment is a total steal. Its in Brooklyn NYC by the train (1 block away), and there is a cute little cafe named after a pig that serves coffee, plus a vegetable garden across the street.

The idea you have to live with 8 other people in order to afford to live in NYC, and that that is the norm, is so insane, I have no words but insane.
It's a world city and the US stopped building non-market housing in the 1980s because the government was shit at it. The only way to make 1 or 2 bedroom apartments affordable would be if they allowed for more non-market housing to be created a la rent caps and the like.
That's not the norm. You can definitely live by yourself in an affordable apartment if you don't insist on living in the most trendy areas of the city. Hudson Heights, Fort George, Inwood for Manhattan. And many little enclaves in Brooklyn and Queen and even in Jersey City. If you don't mind not living in the trendiest areas and don't mind a longer commute time to the center of the city, you can live in New York by yourself in an affordable place. The apartments in affordable areas aren't tiny, box apartments either. They are normal 600-700 sq ft one bedrooms. Most of the apartments shown on this channel are in trendiest, most expensive areas.
U should try to find actuall 900 dollar apartments ..not roommates
apartment shares are the most common type of apartment rental for renting currently (globally). If cash we’re gonna find one he’d have to search in other places especially outside of the city. I don’t see Cash Jordan Minnesota happening anytime soon. 😂
You'd probably have to go all the way to western PA to find those.
@@anotidashe haha-- I had a roommate in MN because rents were expensive. Many Midwestern cities are experiencing rent increases of over 100% in the past year.
@@spelly08183 over 100% holy maybe moving into the woods is the move 🥲
Yeah this is nyc there is no such thing as a 900$ appt
Can you find 5 people who will pay their share of the rent on time, get along OK, not cause any problems with the other 4 renters, and do this for one year or more ??? I doubt it.
Only on TV
Good point!
I could not live with 4 other people that I'm not related to by blood! That's just insane. Plus adults really need their own place, not just their own bedroom.
Especially the shared bathrooms and people going through your bedroom to get to the roof.
@@littlebitofhope1489 Exactly. 5 people plus whatever company they bring over and only 2 bathrooms?? No thanks! That was horrible design to have the only roof access through the bedrooms.
I can picture making the monthly collection for the rent and the electric bill. Someone would always be short, but the bills have to be paid on time or there are penalties. That responsibility alone would be a killer. Then there'd be someone who would eat your stuff from the fridge, and someone would have to clean the showers and toilets. Even sharing with one other person would require patience!
@@Bobrogers99 that sounds like a nightmare. You'd really have to want to live there for all those headaches 🙄
I think it's a great deal! But.....the stress of roommates paying on time and behaving would be a major stressor for me. In 2023 there are many factors when committing to others and working together like a well oiled machine. Thanks Cash, nice video!
Right! And 5 people living together? Sounds a little hectic.
@@darlenew1981
Yeah, you forgot the friends/boyfriends/girlfriends/couchsurfers. Sheesh! No thanks.
You mean Ross really wouldn't be dating Rachel while Monica and Chandler chide Joey about acting school ?
@@gigiw.7650 nope, didn't forget, it's a given! 😂
This place is okay, but did anyone notice the grime around the base of the shower in one of the bathrooms? The grout and the track of the shower door were brownish? The sink in another bathroom has a huge crack with a small piece missing. There is no living room to speak of and all the bedrooms are long and narrow. The kitchen is too tiny to do any real cooking either. You’d have to buy a “bar” from IKEA to have adequate counter space.
I did notice that. What counter space there was in the kitchenette/break area is almost a waste of space. One would have to buy a bar for use to adequately prepare something.
Super tiny kitchen space for five "bedrooms." There would be fighting. This isn't the kind of neighborhood where people walk around at night deciding where to go eat.
I like how when there is something really negative about an apartment, Cash most times will not mention it, but he gives us, his viewers a clear picture of it with his camera, without saying a word. That was those who hire him, are pleased with the video he has done and will call him back for other listings they have, but he is "telling" us what is wrong with some of the places. I have seen him hold his camera on a roach for a few extra seconds, but not saying anything.
Basically it's a collection of hallways with a grimy bathroom
The kitchen is not adequate for 5 people. That first 5x9 "bedroom" is not a bedroom. You won't be walking around after dark in that neighborhood or jogging in the morning. Too many sketchy people. I'd never tell you its a "bad" place to live. I'm telling you to be chill and pay extra attention when you're there.
5x9 is a jail cell.
@@sherw7635 A spacious bedroom in New York apparently.
Same thing I said and it’s out dated I pay 900 in Indiana and my kitchen looks like something out of a magazine modern appliances and everything New York apartments should be ashamed all this money for nothing stay safe A E😃
@@sherw7635 Sher 🤣🤣🤣🤣 amen 👏🏾
5 roomates, yeah cause that makes alot of sense... the common area is not adequate lay out for that be comfortable...
I love when ppl recognize Cash in person! It makes me happy for some reason lol
What are the odds that you could find five people sufficiently compatible to share this place? One bedroom is REALLY small, and two others are the accesses to the deck, so dividing the rent would take some negotiation. But even divided 4 ways, it's just $1,150 apiece, plus heat and hot water. The living space is narrow and the kitchen needs a wheeled island. Apparently there is a hookup for your own laundry machines, a plus. Considering current NYC rents, if you can deal with the neighborhood and a bunch of housemates, maybe this isn't such a bad deal.
yes having to pay heat and hydro can be very expensive. Hot water and dryer for clothes is also costly.
@@lorainestjames4181 Most of these refurbished Brooklyn apartments are using (electrical) heat pumps and electric water heaters, so even with four occupants each one's share of the electric bill would exceed $100/month. Much more if they were wasteful. In Manhattan, a majority of the buildings get centralized heat and hot water, and it's figured into the rent, but not so in Brooklyn. That's one reason why Brooklyn rents seem to be lower.
Also if there's 5 people living in that apartment they will need a second fridge. The one in there is way too small for 5 people.
About a million to one. Yes you may find five compatible people but for how long? Roommate situations are always temporary. Why? Because it isn't ideal. Ideal is a man, a woman and three children.
Time was, a man could earn enough to support a whole family and the woman (whatever that is) could stay home and nurture and love the kids and say things like, "Just wait til your father gets home "
We're talkin' 1950s. Things have changed a lot since then. Ten years from now we'll "own nothing and be happy" so they say. I think not.
@@j3488 More bedrooms means more rent, and if the "bedrooms" don't meet the minimum standards and can't be advertised as such, the landlords know that they'll be used as sleeping spaces anyway.
That apartment is in East New York, one of the worst, most dangerous neighborhoods in Brooklyn. The Broadway Junction subway station is a maze of passageways and stairways. The 'L' train is at the highest level of that station, the 'A' train at the subway level. You do not want to use that subway station at night or in the day for that matter.
Yup
But remember, he spotted a station closer to the apartment. Also, the caption at the beginning of the video said "Ocean Hill," which is in Bed-Stuy!
Looks like someone threw up walls in decent-sized rooms to make more bedrooms! Landlords squeezing every penny they can out of tenants by creating more "rooms".
I like Dominic I’ve a good feeling he could help someone get something affordable too. I had to laugh when he squeezed in “and more expensive ones too” bigger commissions. I hope he gets them rented too! Thanks Cash appreciate the show!!
Never go away. I love and appreciate your channel.
Does anyone in New York live alone or always with multiple strangers?
It's NY.
Don't ask. lol
The answer is no
I’d say that, unless you’re making a really good income, you’re probably living with at least one roommate, or possibly a partner.
I'd hate it.
Some are groups of friends from school; a young friend in Boston for art school rented on a floor of a big multifamily for five or six people, some of which remained a constant; she and her husband just left that for their own apartment 5+ years after graduating.
Good morning Cash and family. I hope y'all's 2023 is going well so far!
It’s amazing that this beautiful apartment is where it is. I’m glad to see that it seems that the area (East New York) is becoming revitalized. (I was in charge of the L Subway Line when I retired from NYC Transit in 2017. That area was, shall I say, a bit sketchy. This was not only my opinion, but the opinion of workers who lived in or around East New York.)
But for foreigners it looks like their 3rd world but worse!!! 😱😮that makes some shock
It's in the Ocean Hill neighborhood which is a subsection of Bed-Stuy.
Ok. Thanks. I was focusing on the Broadway-Junction subway stations (aka Broadway-East New York) which contain the A/C Lines downstairs and the connections to the L and and J lines (upstairs).
@@subwayjoefrombrooklyn4471 Sorry, I must have misunderstood. Thanks for your explanation. :)
The title is so misleading!thie appartment ie not $900 a month, its $4500 a month! Big difference!
Find apts in Brooklyn hts, Carol gardens and cobble hill.
5 spots in NYC where all the crime is…
This is one.
This layout would be nicer for three, using small upstairs rooms as a TV lounge and another shared space supplement/access to the two large decks.
I was thinking that though I'd use the larger upstairs space as a bedroom and the front downstairs room for an office space or something else shared.
Hmm... "Chop, Chop, CHOP!" But ya know... I could work with this. The two lower bedrooms are so long and of a good width that a person could find all the appropriately sized furniture and create a mini/jr. suite. They appear as if they could nicely fit a queen bed, desk & chair, loveseat, and a coffee table. At $4500/month it's a good deal if one could find four other people to live with. It's also a good unit for a family. But... at that price, I'd rather see a family try and buy something in or about the same price.
5 friends paying $900, plus rooftop! What a steal in NYC. Thanks for another great video. Cheers from Nashville 😎
Won't be friends for long 😆
Lmao seriously. 4 other people looking at the exact same time in the exact same area. Very challenging to say the least.
Former 37217'er here. Happy with my $650/month single detached house mortgage in the mountains. I left Nashville when my townhouse rent was $850 (in 2017).
Spent the majority of my life sharing a residence. I now have a apartment all to myself. Yay!😁
Buy a trailer somewhere for yourself. It's a much better deal than an apartment.
@@skeeterfan3626 I guess we can't understand this mentality. It's better to live with parents and save for the mortgage.
Congratulations
You will need a secondary fridge for that many people. With four people in our last house we had two full size, a mid size & small drinks fridge. Everyone still had a problem. LOL!
Good morning to everyone ❤️
Scary a** looking neighborhood!
Cash, please do a video on how these people find their room mates.
Where has this channel been all my life lol. My new favorite channel, idk y but I love seeing inside apartments lol. Luv from 🇨🇦
Every time I see a low ass price on here. I know it's because you need 3+ roommates. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wow! I used to get off the Junction all the time and then walk to the East New York train station to catch the Lirr to get to Queens! Good ole days! Cant wait to head back home!
Of course it's $900 per person. Who wants 4 roomates?.. Imagine the conflict potential.. How do you lead a normal social /romantic life? 🤔 How thin are the walls? 🤔
Dominick has some pretty cool places. You could bring him back again.
I live elsewhere from NY, but never miss your videos and will say this has been one of the nicer, with nice sizing rooms and shared shares, apartment! Man, someone should snap this up and sub rent those extra rooms LOL
Stand clear of the shower doors, bing bong.
You're about to hit 400K! Subscribers. Been here a long time. Congrats from Toronto! Watch everyday.
Sketchy neighborhood, store with bullet proof window. Broken sink top in bathroom.
Love these videos, they offer so much more than a look at the apartments; the neighborhood vibe stuff is what sells it for me.
I can dig how you favor small business over big. Love how you diss Dunkin' regularly. H&M and the whole fast fashion industry are legit terrible, though.
I really hate that u caption these videos with the price it'll be for just one room as if that's the price for the whole apartment. News flash NO ONE IN NYC WANTS A ROOMMATE YOU CANT MOVE INTO A ROOM WITH YOUR FAMILY and students are too broke to afford that every month on top of school and books. So who exactly is the target market for these places?
I don't know what's more amazing. The places that are shown or the fact that Cash will go to any neighborhood like it's a walk in the park! 😂😂😂😂
Cash is a true New Yorker. The entire city is his neighborhood!
Yes agreed with previous comment, how about finding appartments for one person to afford them. Definitely appreciate the tour of the streets and the effort as always, entertaining and informative 👍
I see people saying in the comments that this apt is in East New York because he got off on Broadway Juntion. However, he did say he got off at the wrong stop and later showed the A/C at Rockway. I was under the impression that this is Bushwick. I use to live here. The neighborhood is okay but it was definitely changing when I was moving out.
The caption at the beginning of the video says "Ocean Hill." Ocean Hill is a subsection of Bed-Stuy.
@@SL_Derby yes, it was Ocean Hill. I guess I was wrong. Thank you for clarification.
@@Massielnh thank you, 😊
"Not burning down other people" is ALWAYS my intent when using the grill.
Cash, you're in BROWNSVILLE, Brooklyn! Just like Bed Stuy is being gentrified, this neighborhood is going through that process of change as well!
First of all, Ocean Hill; the neighborhood featured in this video, is a subsection of Bed-Stuy. Secondly, unless something drastic has changed things, Brownsville CAN'T be gentrified because of all of the existing government subsidized low-income housing there.
Music and your commentary are the reasons I see your videos.
I don't live in America but love watching your videos. This Has to Be THE BEST & CHEAPEST Flat (Apartment) i've see!🇬🇧❤🇺🇸

That's too far out for me. That neighborhood is a little iffy for me too.
Junky neighborhood...but all those little shops might be handy
Interesting that you should note that. I felt the area might be a prime location for some "higher level" types of businesses to open there -e.g.- gym/dance studio, soaps/bath shop, etc.
@@sinash The area actually has industrial / warehouse areas within a block or two of where Cash was. He just didn't show them. To clarify - those industrial and warehouse buildings are actively being used - not abandonned.
Yeah, $900 of your share now u gotta find 4 dependable friends to come up with their part of the rent. lol
Have a great day. Rain storms and snow here for days at the top of the mountains in Fawnskin Ca
9:11 Huge crack in the bathroom lavatory is included in the rent?
1/2 sink. 1/2 size fridge. 1/2 size dishwasher. 1/2size microwave No counter space. 2 bathrooms? for 5 unrelated people. And the added bonus of people going through your bedroom to get to the roof? Uh, no. That is introvert H3LL.
I love this whole just get five people to split the rent with... Who the heck knows five people to split rent with?
I hate sharing; I've had my fair share of roommates, especially when I lived in Toronto. Once my twin cousin moved in with me, showing up unexpectedly from another province, never called to ask if he could stay with me, then a year later the other twin showed up at my door pretending to be the cousin who was living with me 🤣 and they both thought I'd never clue in. They're identical twins, but look more like brothers than twins. I used to refer to them as Dim & Dumb, but never to their faces. Hoo boy, fun times. I used to say I'd never marry again because I like living alone way too much.
Uncommon common space.
This is a very nice apartment. The refrigerator is not big enough for 5 adults. The small space in the main living area would make a nice office.
Sorry Cash, but these video titles - so misleading. It's $4500 a month. With all those roommates - to cut it down to $900 - of course people will eventually want to move the hell out.
😀
That’s what he does consistently. With almost 400k subscribers you’d think the clickbait wouldn’t be necessary
@@GDavis49 Yep. The clickbait titles are exactly why I've just had to unsubscribe.
Five people to share a not-full-size fridge, no counter space and next to no kitchen cabinets.
5x9 space in the living area is useful for absolutely nothing...
This flat annoys me!
Such a tiny kitchen between 5 people? NYC living really isn't for me!
I wish they would remake the show “Friends”, but except more realistic. For example, instead of all the friends having their own place in Manhattan, they should all be roommates in an apartment in Brooklyn. They can consult you to make it more realistic.
Sadly I do not know four other people I would want to live with in an apartment.
A lot of apartments and condos have fire department restrictions on grills on roof tops and /or decks, etc. Although I do not have any fire related restrictions I used my air fryer to cook steaks, burgers, fish, hot dogs and chicken outside on my deck. I have a single family house. My Air fryer, Cosori, doesn’t get hot on the outside and the meats or roasted vegetables come out like they were cooked on a grill. Best thing about it is it cooks fast and you can cook with it inside too.
Your air fryer?
It's affordable and it's a nice apartment. But 5 different people? Side note, Dominick reminds me of Murray from Stranger Things lol.
I'd rather use the smaller bedroom with the roof access as a common room so everyone can use at least one of the outdoor areas. Could put a couch and TV where people could watch movies or hook up a game system. It would also be a good place to store some of the outdoor things when the weather gets bad.
Hi Cash $900 is a great price for a NYC loft. 👍
Brilliant for students New York study 2023 etc.
Cash, you and vans giving out candy! 😂 You're obsessed with that idea.
Neat place..I like this man you meet sometimes...he is just idk...a special kind of good energy.
That is if all 5 people actually like each other.
9:00 Basically all showers look like that in Slovakia. Funny how you consider it something "from the future".
I feel that 5 people who work and are in and out at different times even just socialising it would work.
Will you stop saying something is one price but actually price per room, really annoying.
The range in how different real estate agents look in NYC 😂
Right lol. All of the Agents in Raleigh, NC wear suits lol
Not feeling this one but then it's' not aimed at me. Living room is an odd shape with the window in narrow space at the end of the room. The downstairs bedrooms are not of equal size with the little one being just a glorified boxroom. Anyone getting that would have to pay much less rent. Rooms with roof decks would have to pay more. One of the washbasins has a massive crack. 5 people sharing 2 bathrooms could also be programmatical.
You can rent whole houses here for around $2000 and up. Before we got our house we lived in a 3 bedroom, 3 bath apartment which was $900 a month. Of course, like everywhere else, rent has increased here, but it's still not anywhere near NYC. Even doubled it's not close.
4500/month wont work if 1+ room-mates refuse to pay rent
when i rent i always advertise NO ROOMMATES and my lease (if you're lucky enough to not be Tenant-At-Will) says NO ROOMMATES
(which includes ADULT children who think they can live with mum and dad tenants for FREE)
ALOT of room-mates are skipping rent because what will the master tenant do if 1br goes non-paying?
Short of talking like trump for at least 5 minutes there is no way to force any room-mate to pay up or get out!
After all an eviction is for ALL occupants of the apt (including master tenant)
Cash I like your apartments. Is there any reason they dont have any elevators. There are so many walk up apartments.
Elevators?
That’s an extra apartment on each floor!
What do you.mean
Wow, this is awesome! So does that mean the areas closer to Brownsville are in the midst of gentrification (I haven’t lived in NYC in years so I’m genuinely curious)? Every time I watch your videos, it makes me wanna move back. 😅
The apartment is in East New York. A very bad high crime area. No gentrification to speak of.

If two people rented it and split the rent it might not be too bad. You could have your own bedroom and office. The spare bedroom for storage. If that is all you really need, it might be pretty good.

1. Ocean Hill is ENY/Brownsville. That's a real estate name to get people comfortable.
2. Who wants to live with four other people of whom you are relying on every month to be on time with their share of the rent and bills not to mention the other drama they may bring?
The stairway to heaven looked nice.
Enjoyable videos; I'm always curious about how people live in other places. But after observing this in several videos, I don't get why Cash is so rough on things; it's like he's testing the strength of every door, slider, cabinet, etc. If he came into my rental house as a leasing agent with that approach, I wouldn't be impressed. Sort of like how my teenage kids move through the house...
