Launched by GLASHÜTTE ORIGINAL in 2016, the SENATOR EXCELLENCE product line bears its name with good reason. When the German manufactory’s engineers, watchmakers and designers created these timepieces, they kept the highest standards for stability, precision, running time and beauty in mind. An in-house trial lasting 24 days puts the quality of every single timepiece to the test. Altogether, there are four models in the SENATOR EXCELLENCE line, available in different versions: a spectacular Perpetual Calendar, an elegant version with moon phase display, and two minimalist variants with Panorama Date or three hands. As for grand complications, GLASHÜTTE ORIGINAL now offers even greater variety: two new Perpetual Calendar models and two additional versions with Panorama Date and moon phase displays have been added to the collection.
The perpetual calendar is one of watchmaking’s greatest challenges, and the moon phase one of its most beautiful displays. These traditional complications find a perfect fit within the signature look of the SENATOR EXCELLENCE line, where they are presented with elegance and clarity. In satin-brushed/polished red gold or stainless steel cases, two new dials with fine- grained surfaces provide a perfectly balanced backdrop for the clearly arranged displays. The red gold version presents a galvanic silver dial with ivory-coloured accents, the stainless steel variant a galvanic grey dial with blue elements. Also new are the applied indexes in solid gold. Together, the velvety surface texture and the raised, hand-mounted indexes lend fascinating visual depth to the watch face. Straps in brown nubuck leather, dark blue fabric or blue Louisiana alligator leather are perfectly matched to the colours of the watches.
Ticking within these watches are state-of-the-art versions of the renowned Calibre 36, whose exceptional technical properties have been widely celebrated. Both offer at least 100 hours of power reserve and feature an antimagnetic silicon balance spring. The new models with automatic manufactory movements also present newly designed skeletonised rotors with the brand’s signature Double-G logo and an oscillating mass in 21-carat gold. This makes it possible to offer expansive views of the elaborately decorated movement, including such details as the hand-engraved balance cock.

I have two GO models. My main critique is they are often too large in diameter or thickness. If they can slim down they will elevate their luxury feel on the wrist.
I couldn’t agree more. Looking at the dial and movement, I don’t see why the Senator Perpetual couldn’t be 40mm.
Everything at GO was/is conceived to be maximum reliable functional ... this causes things to be bigger... it is a choice, I know... a choice I would definitely opt for when buying such a watch...
@@WatchAdvisor I’m sorry, but the idea that they couldn’t shave a couple of millimeters in width and maybe a millimeter in thickness while maintaining reliability and durability is actually an insult to GO. If other brands can figure it out, surely GO’s world-class watchmakers can do so as well.
Unfortunately we cannot under rough conditions officially compare the “others” to GO … But I can tell you I know how they tick in Glashütte and why it is how it is..
Slim down version would be the ALS…
I own the Panoramadatum Mondphase since 2 months and it turns out to be my most worn watch. It is simply beautiful, every time I look at it and keeps excellent time (+1 sec/day). The power reserve of 100 hours is also a big advantage. So, when I war another watch over the weekend or during the week, the Senator will still be ticking when I want to switch back - and it has kept perfect time! The accuracy doesn't decrease with the power reserve running out, it is accurate even after 3 days! Try to find another watch that has this capabilities... Plus, the dial and hands really create a new look depending on the light, so it never turned boring. All this for that price (12.500€) is quite an achievement, in today's market condition.
Love your comment, thanks for sharing your passion with us! May your GO continue to always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours…
Thank you for the excellent reviews! GO always makes beautiful and well finished watches! Thank you Alexander for the fun and interesting showcase of these cool watches.
You are very welcome! Thanks for sharing our passion... May I ask: Which one would you choose in what case material?
I've been waiting for this review for ages...
For ages! Love it! Which one is your favorite?
Gorgeous timepieces and an amazing demonstration, I hope to eventually get one. I love your sense of humor too 🤣
Thanks for sharing your passion with us and your kind feedback!
I still think the dimensions just don’t fit the style. Sad as it is.
Why? Size matters and tastes are different…
thank you alexander. very nice watches! I gonna visit boutique.
Where are you based? Let me know if you have questions and/or if you need any help…
@@WatchAdvisor I am in south korea, seoul. what most of koreans are worrying is sometimes watch retail price is too much expensive than western country. For example, chopard and a lange sohne are much more expensive than the prices that you said(imo, it is western country retail price). so, we are thinking that chopard and als are considering us as pushover or easy touch.
@@이초코핫초코 I don’t know how prices in your country are calculated. The extreme strong Swiss Franc also causes in Europe exorbitant and difficult to understand price differences to Switzerland…
Excellent presentation, as expected.
This brand is my grail brand... if I win a big lottery 😮
The grail watch is Senator Cosmopolite, 44mm stainless steel. with GMT.
As they do not have a Green dial, but only available with Blue or White dials I would (if I was rich) be prepared to have both 😊, while I waited for the Green dial to become available 😮
I believe from memory Alexander, you being a pilot, expressed you admiration for that watch.
🎉
… “as expected” … Love your comment! Thanks once again for sharing your thoughts and our passion!
I just bought the perpetual in steel with white dial and bracelet. Loving it.
Congratulations! Bravo! Thanks for sharing! May your Senator Excellence continue to always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours!
*I always appreciate your shows, *Smiles* *I have been considering a Glashütte Original, this show helps with my decision; and I especially appreciate your showing the dial aperture! Thank you.*
Thanks for your kind feedback! Which one do you have in mind? Let me know if you have any other questions…
I've been wanting to add an example of fine German watch making. After careful consideration, I picked up a 39mm Glashutte Original PanoReserve. I love this watch, and I didn't have to break my budget as I would have done with an A Lange watch.
Bravo congratulations! Thanks for sharing! May your “Pano” continue to always show you happy second, minutes and hours…
11:40 Magnetism doesn't harm watches in the same way that humidity, dust, and other elements can. If your watch becomes magnetized, a simple demagnetization process is all that's needed to rectify the issue
Since "humidity, dust, and other elements" do no longer harm a watch magnetism is the remaining real enemy... Of course you can demagnetize the entire watch ... I have a "Witchi AntiMag" and I know how to use it and this is not obvious, since you can also do that wrong... A normal wearer/customer will most likely not have all this equipment and knowledge so for him a silicon hairspring is very useful...
Your presentations of watches are second to none !
Thank you for bringing these to us Alexander 🍻
Thanks a lot for the wonderful feedback! The best possible content for the best audience in the world...
The gold Senator Excellence Moonphase is breathtaking. Such a beauty. I'm afraid I will never be able to afford it, but what a watch. Appeals me much more than a comparable from the Holy Trinity. The steel version is also very beautifull, has a kind of sporty but still classic look. Maybe one day...Right now I enjoy my new Panerai Radiomir. Great video as always Alexander :)
Thanks for sharing your passion with us and your kind feedback! Never say never… we keep our fingers crossed 🤞🏻… In the meantime may your Panerai always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours…
Another fine video, Alexander! Question about the moon and stars on the Panorama Date Moon Phase in the Stainless Steel version: Your video appears to show the moon and stars in a yellow gold. Maybe it's only the lighting? On the GO website, the stainless steel version seems to show a shiny silver moon and stars against the dark blue ground. Could you clarify please? Many thanks!
Thanks for your kind feedback! It is silver of course … reflections from whatsoever… Sorry!
I'm one of those people who have booed silicon hairsprings in GO watches in the past and I stand by what I've said.
However, with the Senator Excellence, you don't have the double swan-neck regulator with the other side of it being an impotent indicator rather than a regulator. This is a problem with the Senator Cosmopolite, if I recall correctly, and the PanoMaticCalendar for sure.
The Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar is really pretty watch with a cool and legible complication.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us! By the way … the next generation of silicon hairsprings will be adjustable also in length… so one criticism less …
@@WatchAdvisor the Spirate system is pretty cool.
The thing about being passionate about a brand or topic such as watches is that you care about the minutiae that normal folk would find strange. And I sure am passionate about a GO.
Awesome watches. Unprecedented level of inhouse manufacturing for the price. (Nomos is awesome in this regard as well.)
Spirate will make its way…. That’s just the beginning…
I’m glad they didn’t put super luminova on the dial. I think the pano models were better without it.
Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful timepieces,thanks 👍🏴❤️
Thanks for sharing! Which one would you choose?
@@WatchAdvisor rose gold thanks 👍
Good choice 😉
Fantastic as always Alexander !! Thank you for this great detailed review.
You are very welcome! Which of the two would you choose? Material?
@@WatchAdvisor I would lean towards the Perpetual Calendar in Stainless ... They are all so beautifully done.
Same here! That would be mine too…
The rose gold model has an unattractive strap for me, I would like something a bit more polished. Not patent, but a bit more.
The blue strap on the steel watch looks okay, and this is probably my favourite.
If you can find one, please make an L Leroy Marine video. One day I will get one. Discreet luxury, hardly anyone will know what it is.
Oh, my nearest (about 450 km) dealer has a Cartier with green dial and strap. I am almost in love with it, haha!
Straps can easily be exchanged… 😜
it is rare to see a GO 100-hour power reserve movement like this but psst… don’t loudly pound on a “lazy” 42-hour movement because most GO models are still stuck with such inferior power reserve by today’s standard LOL.
i love your video content which has been consistently in-depth and educational. but if i may, would you narrate in more stable and consistent tone, please?
Thanks for sharing! GO is listening and improving… this is the main difference to many others…
Feb. 8th is my bday 😊
Alexander are these watches waterproof? I would not swim with one but it should at least be waterproof enough that you
dont have to worry about water when you are washing your hands... or if you are in the rain. I lost a beautiful Lange that way.
Cost to repair was thru the roof !
Thanks
It is mentioned in the video… 50 meters guaranteed … but tested to more than this …
looking forward to your w&w videos. i guess omega is simply doing releases within the year and no big blow out event anymore.
The W&W videos are all under embargo until Tuesday 9th April 8:30 a.m. And yes Omega will most likely release its watches during the year...
The perpetual in steel is killer, and even comes on a bracelet.
Thanks for sharing!
The moon phase wheel turns counter clockwise in the Southern hemisphere.
Is this a question or a statement?
sadly, the single most troubled watch i ever had was a GO. had to go in 3-4 times in a four year period. sold it. will never buy another.
Can you specify what happened? I (and for sure GO as well) am curious to learn more
I’ve had a Panomatic Lunar for 8 years and always perfect function. Have a Sea-q 39.5 as a beach watch for 4-5 yrs. Zero problems.
Dial with complete Roman indices is classic!
Thanks for sharing!
Also they need to move their leap year indicator to back of movement or revert to the older style they used with a red dot indicator rather than a full subdial.
I totally disagree!
@@WatchAdvisor my thoughts are that I don't need to see a leap year indicator for at least 3 of every four years, so it's not as essential for the dial. But everyone has their preferences.
The leap year indicator is part of a perpetual calendar and therefore should be visible IMHO… but as you wrote… tastes are different….
Beautiful timepieces
Thanks for sharing!
Ich könnte eine komplette Kollektion bei GO zusammenstellen! Einfach toll!
OG?
@@WatchAdvisor GO lol 😂
Dachte ich mir eh… welche ist Deine Lieblingsuhr?
Danke herr Alexander 👍
You are very welcome!
Remember to be careful with that pointer. You don’t want to scratch the watches.
Are you fooling me or is this a serious concern?
@@WatchAdvisor LOL! I’m messing with you.
@@WatchAdvisor I bought the perpetual a few weeks ago. I got it in the grey dial and steel case. So it’s a blend of the two you show in the video.
25:53. Sick
“Sick” Seen as positive or negative?
@@WatchAdvisor positive. I did this same thing when I bought mine last March. I rolled through the recent leap year when setting it.
Your audience get to “see” it but they can’t “feel” how robust the calendar movement is! It’s sturdy!
schade un solch dicke Uhren, und dann noch ein Modulkaliber .....
Also Patek Philippe uses a modular construction for one of its perpetual calendars and no one is upset…Thickness? = reliability!
z.B. JLC oder A.L&S machen deutlich flachere Uhren bei gleichen Komplikationen.
Again… I wrote it before… Unfortunately we can’t compare these and others to GO under some rough and tough conditions… Don’t forget the minimum 100 hours of power reserve and the fact that every function is protected by a safety feature… GO belongs to the Swatch Group… the credo of the Group is to always deliver absolute perfect and reliable calibres in its watches. This automatically leads to bigger and thicker ones than others do manufacture … But believe me they know what they are doing! It is a choice and since even ultra-thin perpetual calendars (Bulgari) exist you can always choose what you want…
Very thorough overview of some beautiful watches. Thank you.
You are very welcome! Which one is your favorite?
Goodness gracious that new moon phase is gorgeous! Thank you for the video showcasing these wonderful German timepieces :)
Thanks for sharing your passion with us!
GO is outstanding brand ,art of precise watchmaking and quality (Alexander please do video of Longines hydroconquest gmt)
Thanks for sharing your passion with us! Which GO watch is your favorite? Concerning the Longines no planes so far… but the year just started so everything is still possible…
My favorite watch from GO is Panomatic lunar with blue dial ,so cool classic everyday watch ,you can wear it on every ocasion.😀😀 @@WatchAdvisor
GO's execution, rather placement of their date in these and many other models just kills me. Cant get used to it. And this is coming from a guy who doesn't mind swiss 4:30 placement of the date window at all.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us! Tastes are different….
Impressive watches, but surely Rolex is a better choice in many ways?
What has Rolex to do here? Wrong approach… You can’t compare apples and pears …
well said Alexander. Two totally different watches👍
NO. Sorry….
These watches are okay but they don’t even have a rotating bezel!
@@TwentyOne_Five ???? This is not a sports watch!!!
Very nice watches 👍👍
Indeed they are… and GO is such a lovely brand delivering an incredible quality…
The blue looks stunning. However that’s the only thing I like about it 😂
