Wow! The Spirit really sunk this talk into my soul. It explains being a covenant keeper. Making a commitment to keep all the covenants of the Lord. So grateful that I managed to allow the Holy Ghost to work in me to help me renew my baptismal covenant after soooo long. At the beginning of 2025 I renew my Temple Endowment and fully take on the name of Christ. I want to continually become more converted in life. I want to be fully bound to God.
Life’s difficult enough even when you have made and keep your covenants. I don’t what to think where I’d be if it wasn’t for Heavenly Father’s guidance.
I have used a similar covenant-binding analogy years ago as a missionary, however I had a stick which represent us which could be easily broken. Then I had a metal rod which represented God. The binding was with rope. I had the people first break the stick, but as we make multiple covenants, (multiple rope tying) and then have them try to break the stick once it’s bound to the rod (which of course they couldn’t). My point was without the covenants we can be easily broken by Satan, but once we are bound with the Lord, we can stand strong throughout his tempests and whirlwinds.
Thank you!Elder Renlandf for sharing thesei jewel sof knowledge... along with comparing these truths so deeply spiritual and important to our own human bodies and how it all works together!! I will treasure this knowledge FOREVER and INTEND to SHARE it with many other people I know and love!😂
Thanks for posting! What a great talk. When I try to search and study about covenants, I’ve found that Elser Renlund, perhaps more than any other current apostle, has taught most clearly and consistently the nature of covenants. Praise to God for living prophets!
Covenants keep us in the straight and narrow path to return back to our Heavenly Home. Additionally, they provide spiritual and temporal protection in this mortal world.
There are so many things to learn, remember, and put into action from this talk. Thank you for sharing it. It goes so well with my book of Mormon study.
Excellent explanation, I just wish the analogy hadn't paralleled a victim situation. When we bind ourselves to God it is *not* a victim situation, but an empowering, non-claustrophobic, agency-respecting, supportive, enabling situation that I long to keep as part of my life.
That is definitely one way to look at it. I had that thought originally too, but I think I was looking at the visual too literally. Looking at it a little more symbolically, I think one hand was supposed to represent us, and one hand, the Lord. He was showing how easy it is for us to separate ourselves from god when only one covenant is in place, and conversely how difficult it is to separate ourselves from God when we have made multiple covenants with Him.
When I watched this I didn’t think of bondage, I thought of safety. I just went to an amusement park with my kids, and in the bigger rides we had to wear a seat belt and shoulder harness, and had park assistants independently check our harnesses. It helped me feel safer than if I only had one seatbelt or if no one checked. Knowing how enticing temptation is, how many safety layers would you like to have to keep you safely near God as you navigate through life?
In 3 Nephi 11 the Lord states: “31 Behold, verily, verily, I say unto you, I will declare unto you my doctrine. 32 And this is my doctrine, and it is the doctrine which the Father hath given unto me; and I bear record of the Father, and the Father beareth record of me, and the Holy Ghost beareth record of the Father and me; and I bear record that the Father commandeth all men, everywhere, to repent and believe in me. 33 And whoso believeth in me, and is baptized, the same shall be saved; and they are they who shall inherit the kingdom of God. 34 And whoso believeth not in me, and is not baptized, shall be damned. 35 Verily, verily, I say unto you, that this is my doctrine, and I bear record of it from the Father; and whoso believeth in me believeth in the Father also; and unto him will the Father bear record of me, for he will visit him with fire and with the Holy Ghost. 36 And thus will the Father bear record of me, and the Holy Ghost will bear record unto him of the Father and me; for the Father, and I, and the Holy Ghost are one. 37 And again I say unto you, ye must repent, and become as a little child, and be baptized in my name, or ye can in nowise receive these things. 38 And again I say unto you, ye must repent, and be baptized in my name, and become as a little child, or ye can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God. 39 Verily, verily, I say unto you, that this is my doctrine, and whoso buildeth upon this buildeth upon my rock, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against them. 40 And whoso shall declare more or less than this, and establish it for my doctrine, the same cometh of evil, and is not built upon my rock; but he buildeth upon a sandy foundation, and the gates of hell stand open to receive such when the floods come and the winds beat upon them. 41 Therefore, go forth unto this people, and declare the words which I have spoken, unto the ends of the earth.”

WOW!! This was the most clear and ordered explanation of covenants I’ve ever heard! Everyone should study this talk!!
I COMPLETELY AGREE!
“And we are bound to Him by loving ties.”
I've listened to this beautiful talk at least 3x already. It's so good and brings comfort and peace to my heart.
Using this talk in temple preparation discussions. Excellent

@@eloiselovesdeviI’m teaching primary today and that’s a really great way of representing the intended idea!
Does anyone have a link to the slides used? I would love a copy of them with the talk. I hope they add them somewhere.

I think you missed one risk factor for having a heart attack besides the COVID-19 vaccine. That is having a living heart ❤ 💙 💜 💖.
