Fans love the return to the classic days of 80s action flicks, and Tom Cruise has been praised for his return performance as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. But there is one very special cameo in the film that has fans buzzing.
Val Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer a few years ago, and his fight with the disease cost him his voice. But it was incredibly important for Tom Cruise to have his friend reprise his iconic role as Iceman. Using impressive technology, the movie’s technical team managed to give Kilmer his voice back. It really showed that Tom's got a heart when he insisted Val be in the movie or else. Honestly the part with Tom and Val was heartbreaking and very well done. The movie is incredible and having Val there was certainly a big part of this flick. If you have not seen it or you are on the fence, get off the fence because this is not a flick you want to miss and seeing it on the big screen is a MUST. The sound from the fighter jets mixed with the big screen is an experience. As to the story, I liked it as much if not better than the first one, which is saying a lot. They got a lot of great young actors in the mix and I really liked the young man who played the son of Goose. There was also the cocky handsome Ice Man-like guy in the mix who was also a great add to the movie. Val had a small part but it was awesome to see him and his part certainly had a strong meeting within the story. 10 stars for this flick!

This film is truly a great reason to head back to the theatre. I have a terrific home system, but this movie needs the big theater system to do it justice.
