I think the Makaio sounds much better. But I think the comparison should be made with same strings, thats just my opinion. I also need to add that Martin is a solid Koa uke so you would think they will sound better with age you would think. I didn't know Makaio is laminated wood.
I have a Fender Montecito tenor Uke that is my BABY. One of the warmest ukes I’ve ever played. BUT, it’s VERY soft. I’m starting to look at ukes more in the $500-$600 range, and had my eye on the Martin but that’s not happening now after a comparison to a $280 stellar instrument. What ukes do you enjoy in that price range?
The T1K is overpriced for a plain instrument made in Mexico and using cheap materials such as Sipo for the bridge and fingerboard. Trying to capitalize on the name by ripping people off. Quite disappointing. Thanks for the video btw.
The Makaio doesn't have much sustain and sounds kind of choked and muffled. The martin is definitely very bright, but it sustains and has some overtones. It would be interesting to see how they sound when strung the same. But in this video, the martin sounds like a solid, but bright instrument. The Makaio is all laminate and it sounds choked and muffled liked you'd expect from that kind of construction.
martin is most excellent

Love my solid mango Makaio!
Is the Makaio your home brand? I can't find that company any other place. I think the Makaio blows the Martin away. Thanks
Yes, Makaio is our brand and sold exclusively at Aloha City.
@@alohacityukes May I ask where and who makes them? Thanks for the reply...much appreciate that and I really liked the sound of the Makaio.
