In all the years I've been watching Julias shows, I had never seen this series. She's clearly in her element and enjoying this chapter of her life. It doesn't get any more 1980's than the overall food styling and party atmosphere!
I think the series Dinner at Julia's is my favorite of all her series. She seemed to be building up to this type of format from her earliest shows, always taking you into the dining room and serving her guest.
Avid fan...once made the beef burgunion...felt so special. It was an honor to think she might have been proud. She will always be a rock star in my eyes.
It's such a pleasure to see fancy dishes prepared. Probably I will never make any of these dishes, but I always learn a lot from watching them being made. I am really sick of today's cooking shows that make the most dumbed down recipes possible. I don't need a show that shows how to make a salad of radishes, cubes of ham, and cherry tomatoes in oil and vinegar.
People have got lazy I'm afraid, it's the inevitable result of convenience foods and takeouts becoming the norm, as people have less time and more money.
@@jimbo477 I don't doubt it - in later years when asked for the secret of her long life, Julia replied: "Red meat and gin". If you were invited for an informal supper at Julia's you'd likely get a simple steak cooked to perfection as you like it, and as much booze as you could handle! She was no food snob, and appreciated the power of quality ingredients, simply prepared so the natural flavours shone through. This TV format is about entertainment, first and foremost. I doubt the viewers reproduced many of these elaborate dishes at home. But it's great fun watching them being made!
1:58 This episode's worth watching for the sight of Julia Child in jeans alone! She was a stunning 6ft 2ins tall with wonderful, long legs her husband was very enamoured of and frequently complimented (he said her legs were one of the reasons he fell in love with her!) So she looked great in jeans and trousers, though she rarely wore them. I love how she threw herself into these little location films, whether she was joining in with the date pickers, or trying her hand at deep sea fishing on a trawler, riding the waves wearing oilskins! What a sport she was - and what incredible energy and love of life she had. I miss her.
Maybe the most striking part of this episode is the menu: no one would ever make turkey in any form for a dinner party this fancy today, unless it was Thanksgiving. Not that there’s anything wrong with it-it would just never happen.
I wish you guys would put this show on the PBS create channel along with the French chef getting tired of some of the shows that you guys show on there the same shows over and over please put some different Julia Child shows on there. I love watching PBS create but when someone Julia Child
0:59 Dick may be sporting the most cunning and elaborate comb-over I have ever seen. Male hairdos as contrived as that, went out with the formal dinner party - more's the pity! You have to marvel at the artistry, determination and staggering delusion involved in working that hard to hide male pattern baldness. God bless him!
An odd comment by the winemaker-“Burgundy is just a generic name for red wine in California.” He should have clarified that Burgundy isn’t actually a name for ANY California wine, it only applies to actual Burgundy from France, which is usually 90% or more pinot noir, not a blend at all.
The immortal Julia Child will always be one of my favorite cooks
Me too!!!
@@rocioaguilera3555 mine as well.😊
Whenever I’m stressed I close the windows, turn off the lights and watch Julia, SO peaceful! The opposite of Gordon Ramsey

2:09 '80s Julia deserves her own sitcom. 📺❤️

May Julia Child forever rest in peace. I still love her.
I've made her turkey gravy (sauce) many times over the years.. it is the ABSOLUTE BEST there is, bar none! Thank you, Julia!
I should try it!
Agreed, Julia was a marvel with gravy and sauces of all kinds, her method was always simple and foolproof.

Always something new to learn from Julie!

I love Julia’s little desert sketch! ❤ she is just adorable.
Heh... by Jove. I remember watching this episode on WKAR, Channel 23, with my maternal grandmother!
Bon Appetit Julia x
Wow.
I didn't know that dates were so hard to obtain 😮
Julia always amazes me. We have been to that date farm in Indio and shopped at the big store nearby. I've made cheese/bacon dates since the '80s.
I'm envious - those date appetisers look delicious!
A lot of this food, i'd never cook... and i love seeing it!
This feels like Julia Child at her most "Mister Rogers"-esque.
I read the other day she actually did a show with him?
"It's not nice to fool Mother Nature!" is a quote from a margarine commercial from that time.
Fantastic video! It’s great to see you back on the kitchen, Julia!!! 👩🍳
I love this series. Had never seen it before. Great format
❤ this format
I've read that actually Julia fed guests simple food in her kitchen at the kitchen table. I doubt she liked fanciness of any kind.

Tante Louise is Denver blast from the past. Sadly the French restaurant on Colfax like Le Central on Broadway are noth gone.
I love this show...why haven't i seen it before?❤
There are many more for you to enjoy. JC was a hoot!
Very well done show

Well I learned a lot about dates and the first time I saw Julia in pants
👍🏻
*Julia Child reminds me of Janet Jackson. They are so similar.*
Are you high?
Oh yeah, they could be twins, lol!
2:10 littering! 500 dollar fine

Hmmm. Apparently you have never seen a picture of our former president or most any old guy in congress, many of whom wear bad hair pieces.
What planet was this filmed on?
Planet Television - elaborate dishes that would never be made without the presence of a TV camera crew!
I don't want to be "that guest", but what is the dessert? We didn't get to see the dessert!

Maybe he meant that’s what people “say” in California when they mean red wine. I’ve seen him in other episodes and he knows his stuff.
Agreed, it's somewhat bizarre when Burgundy by its very definition, is French, and most definitely not American!
