Kayak Rack Build

- Sometimes you have so many kayaks that you need to come up with a solution to get your boats off the ground, away from creepy crawlies and clean up your yard.
A friend asked for help and I gladly took on the challenge.
Please don't be fooled, this took time. Time to research, time to draw up a plan, time to get all the materials and of course, time to build. The obstacle in this build was I needed to actually install this at another location. This brought on a whole new set of challenges.
Being a rookie to building a kayak rack like this, I did not anticipate the top and bottom posts (braces) not being enough. This was a pain in the butt that I sought help from a timber framer down the road. Thankfully they had the answer and I just gave them the height and width of the opening, took them an old piece of wood and boom, I had a diagonal piece that kept everything sturdy.

This channel is underrated! Thanks for sharing this design
Great video mate, what a great idea
Nice ! I’m going to build one like this
Your design looks sturdy!
If I did it again, to make it more sturdy, I would increase each brace to be longer to support more of the weight.
Did I overlook a supplies list or would you mind sharing the supplies list?
It just depends on what you want for yourself as needs vary. Scroll to the bottom of this link for more of a step-by-step guide that talks about some materials. paddleinpink.com/featured-articles/kayak-rack-build/
What angle did you use for the arms and supports ?
I honestly don't remember, it wasn't a big angle, maybe 10? Sorry that isn't that helpful.
I just looked back, 10 degrees is what it is :)
Thank you so much! I want to show you my build! Made one shortly after watching this video
Very nice job. I was looking for a solution that would protect my three kayaks from the weather and chewing animals, but also look good in the landscape. A shed. See my completely enclosed build at "Karin and Larry at Home.
Nice build but your video was to fast and lacked a still image of what you made
By all means, send me a still photo once you make it!
Woodglut has a very large project base.
