It is kind of dehumanising to hear about cultures being talked about from the western perspective. "Oh we thought Eastern Europe was politicised, beaurocratic and boring, we thought they had no culture or art, but then BAMM apparently they also make good posters, that's so shocking." Well it might be unbelievable for some but the world outside western Europe and the US is also inhabited by people, and we people also have culture, technologies, science, arts, feelings... We're humans you know

Belated commentary from the Curator concerning so-called Western knowledge on Polish Poster visual/culture. Most people in the West were so self-centered (1945-1970) that most of them had no idea where Poland was nor did they care. It has taken a long time to discover these masterpieces of Polish/ Poster Art. Sadly as Poland becomes more Westernised the less their culture stays Polish. Polish Visual Culture needs to reinvent itself by returning to its historical narratives that have been its creative springboard. Literature, Music, Folklore, Visual Arts. Patriotism, then you will notice it again as being creative, vibrant and original.

I am from Poland and I would like to share my view on this subject. On many levels I must agree with your words. The mainstream culture got absolutely westernised, this is what you can see on TV, commercials, popular posters. However, I have to mention that I noticed particular interest about polish school of poster within group of young artist, such as Jakub Zasada, Ola Niepsuj or Igor Kubik. Many other examples you can find in polish magazine ,,Przekrój". I truly hope for some kind of revival of Polish Poster aesthetics.
