So dope! I rarely find young people like us interested and proud about our history and traditions. Thanks for spreading and shining a light on our culture, Cabinda in especially. Greetings from a fellow Cabindense ❤️🇦🇴

My wife is from Gabon, her mothers family has the same culture as you and speak the same language (vili, tchivili, civili, Fiote). You know ii is used to be the same kingdom (Loango) which spreads from the south of Gabon (in Sete Cama) to Cabinda Angola. Her family is spread from Gabon to Congo. They also do the same ritual tchikumbi. I think the only difference would be the accent which varies from tribes to tribes as you said.

@@arlettemassaka2470 before colonization it used to be the loango kingdom, which, like I said spread on the coastal region from the south of Gabon to Cabinda. That is why they all speak the same language and are the same people. It’s just like Swahili in east Africa. People from a bunch of countries speak it as their native language because the region use to be the same kingdom/sub kingdoms pre-colonization. But yes the loango capital was/is pointe noire in Republic of Congo. Where even today the descendant of the kings still live.

Hey fellow mukongo person. I from Zaïre one of the northern provinces. My sub tribe is called musolongo but I am also part muzombo from my dad’s side. So in my culture there are no rituals before mariage we just have lambamento and then pedido.

@@JovinaTati i am bot sure if our traditions are the same but we do almost the exact same thing😂.. i am nyanyeka/Nkumbi/ from my mom side and malanjie not sure if i spelled that right from my dad .. my mom stays in Cunene xangongo to be specific my dad stays in beguela
But i was born and raised in Namibia.
For us the process is called Olufuko or okufikala. Takes 5to 7 days.. and different things are done everyday.. Like they slaughter a cow for you.. etc people pay to see you.. its also a suprise when they come catch you and put I think they call it ompewu on your head to symbolise that you are a woman now.. you are taken into the room where you will be for 7days you are only allowed to go out at night to go pee. During the day you stay in the room . Younger girls come stay with you to help you out.
We call them Ovikondi.. then you are braides a certain way the last day you takenout at night and wrapped in samakaka cloth.. (the red black white yellow one) and dressed up.. The singing and dancing
Its alot done but honestly its not that bad of a experience the only uncomfortable thing for me was being bare breast all the time.
But i am suprised our cultures are pretty similar in this aspect....
I never really find someone who spoke about this apart from my family..

What do they call nuts and okra in Kimbundu or bakongo language. I'm asking because they say the stew gumbo in Louisiana comes from Angolan word for okra and gumbo used to be made with okra. I heard the word in kimbundu or bakongo was like "ki gumbo" Or "quimgumbo". And the word for nuts was nguba in Angola but not sure which tribe it comes from. The old word for nuts in the U.S. was "gooba" or "goober".

I love African culture in general. I was born in Yaounde and grew up in Bangui. Thank you for sharing. In the initiation ritual, it's the African education system from ancient Egyptian to the majority of tribes in Africa ❤❤❤❤

Tchikumbi is more or less similar to most South African tribes that still go through Initiation for women like my tribe. Those tchiterra/ reed mat (Legoga), white clays (molora) and etc is what they use and when the initiates come back they apply that túkula (Letsoku) and receive gifts I think is similar there but different somewhere.
I can't explain much about women's initiation school because is obviously different from men's initiation school. To me your traditions are much better compared to ours we used to go through 3 initiation schools third one is no more (I went to two).
