In today's video, I tell you all about how I got into top colleges with a low SAT score! It's not all bout test scores and your GPA. I provide some tips and advice in this video about MY opinion and college application knowledge. Just remember, I'm not an admissions officer! But I hope this helps a little :)

I got a VERY low sat score and I've been beating my self up for it. I'm studying to try and get a better score, but that feeling of inadequacy never goes away. I am hoping to break out of it soon with this video. Thank you for the video!! Love your channel!
I know you can improve it, maybe try more practise questions
Try your best to improve until December (the last chance for seniors to take it for their RD application) and superscore it.
Also, you can compensate "low sat score" with other parts of your application. There's also transferring in the future. So please never beat yourself up because you have a low score. It's bad for your mental health and will have consequences in other parts of your academic career.
Not sure if you’ve heard but they have practice PSAT on the college board website! This is it if you are interested!

This is so right!! Just because you got a low SAT or ACT score, it doesn't mean you can't get into an elite/top school. When I applied to Questbridge, I also had the mentality of "what are my chances of getting into a top school with a 25 ACT score..." I got SO discouraged but after getting into Tufts and Georgia Tech, I realized that there's so much more to the college process than just simply test scores.
Did you have ECs and good recommendations that helped you to get in?
@@gauche5800 I would say I had a very few important ECs like helping students who are learning English as their second language which was something I could relate. I was also highly involved in my school's environmental club, and I was persistent in the volunteering activities I did. Regarding letters of rec, I would say my teachers knew me pretty well.

Well? How is it going?
I feel that application puts your foot in the door but you, yourself have to walk though the door.
From a personal standpoint, I had a really shitty SAT score cause I'm a terrible test taker and only got into two school out of the nine I applied. No matter how much I studied for it, I couldn't get it any higher and I didn't want to wait my family's money if I knew I wasn't gonna get a higher score so I just say fuck it, if anything happens then it'll happen. I'm blessed to have gotten into two universities that I did and I'm happy where I'm attending and for me that's what matters the most.

I just finished my junior year and my dream school has been stanford since I was little. I want to do uhm early decision for Stanford and the more I watch your videos, the more motivation I have to have a really good application so i can get in. I really really love your content
It is very difficult for someone like me who has autism to take these test...my grades and extra curricular are definitely more of a reflection of who I am.

I AM SO GLAD I SAW THIS VIDEO PLZ OMG, I’m applying to college this fall and my SAT superscore is a 1340(idk if superscores r not as good as a normal score but yeah…) and I was panicking so hard cause people around me all got like 1400+ and 1500+… im gonna try again in November but I feel so much better now, especially having someone there (you) to prove how a score less than 1400 is not the end of the world😭thank you

I’ve been stressing out a lot, i really really want to be a labor and delivery nurse but I have a 840 SAT and a 3.03 GPA. Anyone knows what college/universe would be good for me ?

Not sure if you’ve heard but they have practice PSAT on the college board website I’ve heard that it can help you improve (I have a 980)! This is it if you are interested!

Here is a suggestion, go to a junior college for 2 years, save money and apply to those schools as a junior, there is less competition

Thank you so much for this! This was super helpful and encouraging, i am Canadian so i will be applying as an international student coincidentally to psychology as well!! I decided I wanted to apply to the states really late so this gave me a lot of confidence for my SATs and provided me a lot of insight on how I can frame my PPT :)

I have a 1470(with 4.0 GPA) and people on reddit tell me that my chances of making it into IVY leagues is nearly zero just because I am Indian+International+CS :-( I am class of 2025!

There are several ethnicities in Ivy schools don’t ever let someone make you feel like your race limits your capabilities!

Im horrible at math i wont do well on the SAT because in high school i specialised in economics and my gpa is 4.0 so can i only rely on my gpa and not submit my sat or should i pass it and get a bad score but just rely on my gpa
why didn't you choose to not turn in your SAT Scores? I don't want to turn in my scores because they were around 1200 and all of my schools are test optional. Is it better to turn in the scores or not?
1200 is a bit above average. It really depends on the school. 1200 at UCLA is bad.. 1200 at lower ranked schools would be good..

I got into one of ut hardest majors (advertising) and I had a 1070 SAT. It’s was my extracurricular and my gpa that got me in.

hi sorry i have a question... I got into a university w an average sat of 1400 and my sat is 1200.... I have no idea how I got in. I have strong EC so maybe that's why but I am absolutely worried if I can keep up with the academics even if I decide to go there......... carby miks I feel like I have to study more than your average student. A sat test don’t really define how smart you are. It honestly just show how good of a test taker you are. When you start uni try to pick classes that interest you, try to not skip lectures and use rate my professor to see how hard the class is. I’m currently taking a class where we watch nothing but movies. It sounds fun but it full of long boring lectures and 2000 words essays lol. It all about adjusting cause the workload going to be more (not really hard depending on the class). Even going to a school that easy to get in doesn’t mean the work gonna be easy.
I'm here crying because I got a 1360 and I don't think I'll get into any good schools. I need a full scholarship too.

I got a 1440 on my first try while everyone around me has got at least a 1500+... So if anyone is kind enough to answer can you tell me if 1440 is a good score and should I take the test again? :__(((

@@nessap.s540 check with your school or local church they sometimes offer free tutoring. Or try the khan academy, they tutor you for just about anything. Don’t give up.
For us we kinda eat maths for breakfast but break our knees when english comes along

Do you think it will be harder for me to get accepted do to me not having extracurricular besides my community service? my senior year and in the summer I planned and plan on do things.
Extracurriculars are very important, I suggest that you find something (like a club) that you enjoy and commit to it

When you apply to QuestBridge, should you also do the common app in case you don’t become a finalist for the match process?
Yes definitely fill out the common app, some QB schools require Common App and not all schools use QB :)

Can I get to college with an 860?
I got a 880 on the sat -
My test scores were not the best(1360 SAT and 30 ACT). I have taken rigorous courses(7 APs) and maintained a decent GPA(sophomore and junior year were rough). I was discouraged but I just focused on other aspects of my application(improving GPA, strong essays, activities/award section). So far gotten 35k per year scholarship to RPI, Northeastern, 23k per year scholarship to WPI and 4 more. Waiting on 10 more schools in March.
Also, would have killed for that EBRW Score(SAT Math was 740).
Great video...way more informative than those 1500 SATs, 1000 AP, study 24/7 blah blah youtube videos that come across as vanity projects

All UK & US universities accept almost any foreigner student due to paying so much more tuition than regular citizens.

African American students are getting xtra 120-160 points on top of your SAT score, of your score is 1340, top colleges will add 160 to your score ! Personality stuff is important, but not that crucial, race plays the major role here, Asian students are getting deductions from their score, since all top Us such as Standard and Harvard, they just can't accept students based on scores and academic, otherwise, those Us will have majority Asian students. SO if you are African American or Hispanic American students, take advantage of your race and get a 1350 above score, you will have a good chance to get into Ivy schools !
still doesn't prove the low numbers of Black students getting in, Caucasians and Asian Americans are still the majority in most top colleges and that will probably be the case for years to come, using Race roles to justify rejections while also saying that black students are underprepared or in this case them being too dumb that they will need extra points for considerations is just willful ignorance in your part

Asians also lack personality unlike most African Americans. Most schools don’t want asians because they feel it will make them dull and less lively. That’s no creative industry dominated by asians for a reason.
i got a 1100 and i am currently studying to improve my score (i take the test again in november and i am a rising senior in hs) but i have a really high gpa, a high ranking, and pretty good ec’s. i’m considering going test optional, but i don’t want to lose competitive edge by doing so. any tips? should i got test optional or just still submit my score? (duke is one of the highest ranking schools on my list) thanks!~
Schools will record your highest but that said for duke anything below 1300 is probably not competitive

It depends on the money you're willing to spend
Also make sure there are reach schools (top schools), schools of your level and safety schools
Do awards are necessary for getting in coz I didn't get a noble prize or international award 😭
some top schools like stanford, havard and the other ivies still expect you to submit SAT or ACT scores.

Very good, but it really depends on what school you are applying to? Look up the schools and the last entering class or the last 2 average sat scores for those cohorts. That will give you an idea how competitive your score is
@Bisman Sahni that’s actually a good score but again it depends on the school you are applying for. 1250 or higher puts you above 80% of those who take the test in the USA. Unless you are applying to an Ivy League or another top school like UCLA that score is good. If you can raise to 1300 that will be even better
