Karolina was not proactive enough in this match. You could tell that Sabalenka was trying to win every point. She was constructing the point to win it. Karolina however looked passive as if she was expecting Aryna to give her the match. Champions don’t wait for opportunities, they create them. She needs to learn that and she needs to up the “killer instinct”.

Karolina was getting better after the second set, but a little too late. ☹️. she needed to try harder in the first. Probably underestimated how prepared, mentally, Sabalenka was for this match. As a Pliskova fan, I rooted for her, but Sabalenka tried her butt off, so i’ll give her the slide. Such a good match.
Karolina 😩 Still lacking intensity and the confidence to go for the right shots in critical situations. I hope she can work herself into form during Wimbledon.

Sabalenka is one to watch at Wimbledon! Hopefully she doesn't get another difficult draw like Barty at the AO and Bertens at the FO. She has even chances to get seeded at her US Open main draw debut.

I thought it was just a slow motion replay and then I saw Pliskova was playing....
I don't mind the noise Sabalenka makes. The men make similar noises all the time. It seems like a grunt of effort. This kind of grunt helps one deal with nervousness. It can keep you stay concentrated. It's the SCREECHING I don't like...the blood-curdling screams of Maria S, Monica Seles, or young Serena and Venus.

Pliskova should have won this match. She was up 4-1 in the third. The only thing Karolina needs to work on is finishing. She was up a break on Kerber in the 2016 US Open final in the third set. She should have already won a Grandslam. And lest you forget she beat Serena in the semifinal before that. She is a great player. I do think that becoming ranked #1 and almost winning a slam can be hard to get fully back to where you were. You were ranked high, you were very close to winning one, you worked hard to get there and then it is a tough thing to keep that. But Karolina has really matured and is poised and is excellent. You people out there who think she will never win a grandslam. You may be eating your words one day.
