Yup! And my biceps/triceps aren't what they were in my climbing days😀 I forgot to mention weight in the video -- it's 5.08 kg (11.2 lb.) as rigged in the component carousel ua-cam.com/video/tS4DyYM_wWc/v-deo.html
@@CPSWEDEN Not bad is it? Actually, by bracing the rear of the rig on my chest (make sure those rails aren't sticking out and taking care not to press buttons if recording audio) it's quite manageable. Of course, a dedicated shoulder pad could be added to the build, as well.
@@RaymondParkerPhoto I don’t own the Z6 (II) I’m still using D750 and 810 and making money making real estate videos. I want to go the Z6 II route together with the Ninja 🥷 but my setup must be light and easy to use with my crane 2 lab gimbal.
nice rig, by the way the Lens support & this base cage rig are also usefull for the f 1.2 and 0.95 50 mm Z native lenses for still shooting, as these lenses are quite large and fairly heavy, esp. for a small mirrorless system such as the Z6/7 cameras, so these components surely will save any lens mount issues, as the weight is cradled from bellow.
Fellow user of Canadian currency here. I liked this video and decided to subscribe. Have yet to take any video with my Z6ii, other tha a few second test. Not likely to build it out like yours, since I don’t do commercial work. But, there is a nice tone to your video and I’m going to look at others you have done. I am thinking of making a UA-cam video or two and have just received a dual mic kit, so we will see how I progress. Thanks.
Raymond...a few weeks ago I told you that I needed to send my Ninja V in for repair. Turns out that there was a bent pin in the HDMI connection.not sure how that happened, however they fixed it under warranty . Also wanted to say that I look forward to all of your updates. Hope all is well in Vancouver Island!
Glad to hear Nikon came through on that for you, especially as it's something that kind of lies in the grey area of warrantee coverage. Thanks. We're bearing up under this unprecedented heat ... so far, better than the rest of the province.
I did not understand what all the bits were for especially the "ninja" box on the top left of rig from you and would love to know what everything is exactly for. Hi, Pascal. Yes, but I have a lot invested in the 100mm square filters The NiSi are superb, with no perceptible colour shift and they are IR corrected to boot. I've heard good things about Kase (except for their case!) so I think it's a toss-up where filter quality is concerned. In any case 😀 I'll invest in a matte box at some point, c/w filter trays for the 100mm square filters.
@@RaymondParkerPhoto Yes, Kase filters are very good. At least, the polarizer is. I haven't had the experience with the ND filters yet. I'm currently using the K9 holder but since I don't use grads anymore I'm thinking of switching completely to the magnetic filter system. Moving to the circular magnetic system will downsize my filter pouch.
Hey there, hope all is well. I was wondering if you had any thoughts on recording sound via the Audio input of the Ninja V? I'm currently trying to figure out if I actually need something like a Zoom H4 or the Tascam. Kind regards!

Yes indeed. It's a far horizon, but I don't think I'd settle for anything less than Sachtler flowtech 75 legs and FSB head. My existing 8 y/o Manfrotto head struggles with this rig.
Thank you for this video! I'm currently learning about building small rigs and this video was very helpful. Please tell if that shotgun Rode mic pics noticeable noise from the fan built into Atomos Ninja V?
Possibly, in a completely controlled, quiet environment, it might pick it up slightly; in practical terms it's not something I've ever noticed, unlike the fan noise from my Godox SL60W studio light that requires serious noise reduction in post. And so, if ever needed, the same would go for audio recorded with this rig. But judge for yourself, the majority of this recent video was recorded with that rig, then audio treated with my usual process -- minimal noise reduction, compression, normalization. ua-cam.com/video/kCCsBsj_dbM/v-deo.html
@@RaymondParkerPhoto Thank you again! I think I'll order Atomos Shinobi at this time because honestly for my videos I don't need to record 10-bit videos on an external device and it's much cheaper. But I don't shut the door to the Ninja V.
Hi Raymond, are you or have you got the Pro Res update from Nikon and are you using it? Are you shooting a lot on the Ninja recorder in high res fashion? If you are using 4k30 and using it outside are you having any over heating problems and has that western digital ssd been reliable?
If you mean ProRes Raw, no, I haven't. I'm happy at this point with ProRes and N-Log. As I said, I *may* convert one of my cameras at some point. I'm not sure what you mean by "high res fashion." I do use the Z6 and Ninja outside, but you'd need to specify temperature -- it rarely gets hot here. Having said that, I also don't record at 4K 30fps ... only 24fps. The Western Digital has been fine.
Awesome rig! Do you find you really need to use the FTZ adapter support bracket to use F-mount lenses? I just purchased a cage and I opted not to buy the bracket because it seems unnecessary. What do you think?
I think you should use it with anything longer than, let's say, 85mm. The other thing is that it fills the space between the adapter and cage bottom, as I show. If you have the lens support on rods, that might help ... if, and only if, you never tilt the rig sideways, when weight will again come onto the lens mount. No question it should be used with longer lenses. Small price to pay to protect your expensive Z camera.
The audio recorder looks unwieldy in and of itself. Will the ninja not already record audio without the Tascam? BTW, I’ve also got the Ninja (but not the cage for it) Tom KC3QAC

Hi Robert. I hesitate to recommend any particular products at this point, since I haven't made up my mind, though the pressure to do so is building -- tired of swapping batteries every hour or less, shooting time-lapse (see my recent video comparing 8-bit and 10-bit recording).
