    Thanks Dr. Marshall. I have some Mormons coming over tomorrow evening to have a chat. I bought some drinks (nothing caffeinated) and snacks, and I plan to invite them to my patio by the pool for a discussion. I am trying to prepare myself as much as possible for that discussion, as I want to help lead them to Christ and the Catholic Church. This video gave me some particularly good items to bring up, and also helps me more optimally understand where they’re coming from. I’ll be studying more material and some Trent Horn videos tonight. I never turn away Mormons or Jehovahs Witnesses - Christ bought them to me so I can be the missionary.

      @@valebartoli8113 it went extremely well, I did 80-90% of the talking and they asked a ton of questions to learn more about Catholicism despite being there to tell me about Mormonism. I stumped them in several key areas, and they said they would get the answers to my questions and come back. Unfortunately, they never did return. I learned from an ex-Mormon that when young missionaries encounter certain hard cases they can be forbidden from returning. The questions I asked were probably a lot more involved that anything else I think they have been asked, and had nothing to do with magic underwear or any of the typical stuff they would be asked perhaps by Protestants. My hope is I planted a seed. I could tell explaining the Eucharist had a particular effect on them, it was new information to them.

    I know this is an old video but I wanted to put my 2 cents in terms of refuting LDS Missionaries. As a return missionary myself and former Mormon, one of the biggest things you can do to help LDS members is bring up their church history. I.E. Joseph looking in a hat with stones, marrying 14 year olds, Joseph having a gun in jail, Mountain Meadows Massacre etc. You'd be surprised at how often members don't know their own history because its not taught in church. Missionaries are taught exactly what to teach, these 4 points brought up in the video aren't part of the "script" and they might not even know about it hence their hesitation in answering deep doctrine questions. To mormons, it all comes down to faith and feeling, no matter how much truth you bring to them or how great you are at refuting their points, they will almost always fall back on faith. Their conversion like mine may take years but they'll remember the meetings you had (I remember having discussions with a catholic priest while on my mission) and it helped bring me out of the faith. Cheers.

      +1 here brother. While a Mormon missionary I could not help myself wanting to go to Mass and visited Catholic Churches regularly, talking with priests and lay people as well as Protestant teachers. My return talk was the last time I went to the Mormon church (other than funerals) and my talk sounded a lot like St Thomas Aquinas and I didn’t even know about him at the time. Re reading it now 25 years later I realized I was always “Catholic” and didn’t know it until I joined the faith in my 30s. The real problem with Mormon theology in the end is that it leads them away from true worship of Christ, and many who leave the Mormon church do so because they hate and resent God because they never understood Him to begin with.

      @Storm Trooper Mic I am so happy I got out of the Catholic Church. Why does looking into a hat bother you so much? Maybe if he just hid under a blanket that would make it more palatable to you? And here you are speaking about Joseph marrying a 14 year old. Do you know anything about that 14 year old? Do you know who she is or the circumstances surrounding that "marriage"? Based on your comments... I would say NO. Do you know anything about the laws of the land in the 1800's concerning marriage? The laws in the United States? Do you know anything about age of consent? Or even age of consent laws in the United States in the 1800's? Something again tells me NO... you have no idea. Any idea how old Mary... the mother of Christ was when she got married?
      Yes... missionaries are taught what to say. But it is the Holy Ghost that testifies of the truthfulness of what they are teaching. They don't need to know "everything" to teach the Gospel. Thank goodness someone of your mind set never taught me.

    • @stormtroopermic1924
      @stormtroopermic1924 3 роки тому +7

      @@MrNirom1 Looking into the hat isn't the problem. You weren't raised in the church so you never attended primary, seminary, EFY, served a mission(depending on when you converted) so you weren't taught these things over the course of your whole life. The LDS church doesn't teach that Joseph Smith looked into a hat or the fact that he didn't even use the gold plates during the translation, (they do acknowledge these things now with the release of the book series Saints or something like that). I was raised to believe that Joseph Smith physical used the gold plates for translation and that he only used the power of God to do so, not a seer stone. Why alter the way it was done and teach it in church?
      LOL your logic is basically, because it was legal back then it shouldn't be a problem. So is slavery ok to you then? That was legal during that time. Should we just accept those people for who they were, i mean they weren't doing anything wrong right? They had human beings as property but it was OK in the US. Clearly Gods law is only subject to the laws of the current time.... I'm sure I know more about ALL of Josephs wives than you, and I know that marrying others wives while they were still married was illegal during that time. The same was true with polygamy in Illinois. So pick a side already, either go with Gods law or US law during that time. Can't have both or else God approves of slavery since Brigham Young taught that they were inferior and descendants of Cain and Ham.
      Yeah, I know that Mary was around 16? when giving birth to Jesus. I don't think we have the exact age. The difference between Catholics teaching of the virgin birth and the LDS version of the birth is that the LDS version has God physically come down and have sex with Mary. I was taught this in youth. Catholics teach she conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit without intercourse. How can God have sex with someone that he isn't married to when according to the LDS church, you should only have sex in marriage. Also, you do realize that if you make it to the celestial kingdom and in order to continue progression you must practice polygamy right? You and your wife (assuming your married) are ready for that?
      and if the Holy Ghost is the deciding factor of whether something is true or not it shouldn't have made any difference who taught you. The Holy Ghost would have testified all the same. And for the record, you can believe whatever you want to believe but don't try to use "facts" as an argument and then ignore the lack of facts provided by the church in its teachings. We wouldn't be having this conversation if the LDS church was truthful with its history and didn't omit facts. God Bless.

    • @MrNirom1

      @Russell Weber Just because the Catholic Church calls Peter their "First Pope" does not make it true. I will bet you 1000000 donuts that he had no idea what a pope was. So he didn't signup for the job as the dictates of what the Catholic Church stands for. He might have been the leader of the 12 Apostles... and a prophet because he received revelation from God... (we know this because Jesus even said he did) but being the head of the Catholic Church was not one of them. It was not even called the Catholic Church then.
      Gibberish? I guess when speaking from books that are ancient and using old words... they can seem like gibberish to the unlearned... but it is at the fault of the hearer... not the speaker. Yea... white women that smoke, guzzle coffee, etc... and can't speak about things spiritual are a real catch.
      Just how crazy are Jehovah witnesses? And all those christian identity people that you call knuckleheads that you consider lost souls? Just the word Christianity stands for the belief in Jesus Christ. Just can't see the value having Mary appear and not teach something to the people. What did she say? What did she teach? What did she reveal? Of course I am asking the person who has so much knowledge that he can call other people knuckleheads. What miracles did she preform? Teach us oh wise one.

I knew zip about orthodox Christianity. Someone gave me a copy of Tom Woods book "How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization" which prompted me to study the Catholic side of the Reformation. That opened up all sorts of questions and over the next couple of years I basically studied my way into traditional Catholicism. I'm home God be praised. I know there are many Mormons who feel just like I did. Many of them are poorly catechized Catholics who were picked off. Thank you for this presentation.

    I like this video! I am a Mormon, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic that closed all the churches on the Navajo Reservation/Nation, I decided to drive to Farmington, New Mexico, 35 miles away and find a place to go to Church (off the reservation). The Mormon churches were also closed in Farmington. I found St. Mary's Parish to be open. I sat inside, in the back. I didn't understand what was going on, but I kept continuing to go each Sunday for 3 months, by myself. It was mention during MASS that an RCIA meeting would be starting on Thursday evening. I attended. I am still attending. I understand now about Catholicism. I understand also the weakness of Mormonism.
    One thing I don't like about Mormonism is that you are force to pay a full tithing (10% of your gross income) in order to grow in the Mormon religion. I could never pay 10% because I could not afford it. The highest that I was able to pay was about 6%. In general, I paid about 1% or 2% tithing. I told this to Deacon Jim who runs the RCIA at St. Mary's Parish. He emailed me these 2 scriptures: 1 Corinthians 16:2, and 2 Corinthians 9:5-8.
    1 Corinthians 16:2 says, paraphrasing: On the first day of the week each of you should set aside and save whatever he can afford, so that collections will not be going on when I come. In other words, “On the first day of the week [Sunday], each of you should set aside whatever he can afford.”
    Read 2 Corinthians 9:5-8. 2 Corinthians 9:5-8 meaning is this: God doesn’t demand a fixed amount of money from us; he wants us to give from the heart. If people are forced by their church to give a certain percent of their income, that’s extortion. If they give freely and cheerfully the amount they are able, that’s a gift.
    To grow spiritually in the LDS faith, one has to pay a full tithing. If one pays a full tithing, one can expect to get positions within the LDS Church. And from there, you can keep growing. I wasn't able to pay a full tithing. I told the truth, so I wasn't able to grow within the Mormon faith.
    My daughter is also doubting the Mormon faith. She doesn't believe what some of things that is taught to her during LDS Seminary that is taught during 0 hour before high school begins. She also told me that the white LDS boys walk as a group to high school. Then the white LDS girls walk behind the boys. Then she walks by herself behind the girls. She tried to commit suicide by walking onto the highway but the cars stopped. She told me this. I didn't know she was going through this problem. So I told her that she doesn't need to complete the lessons given over the internet (because of COVID-19, it's now taught online). That she should do what she feels in her heart. I told her I would help her.
    The Mormon Church is the richest church in the world! They build temples! But one has to be faithful to the Mormon faith and pay a full tithing in order to be able to go in to the Mormon temple.

    • @datahamster5810
      @datahamster5810 3 роки тому +12

      I used to be a Mormon. They are the richest church in the world because the way that’s reported is financial assets held by the churches. In order to truly calculate the Catholic church’s wealth in the US alone you’d have to include thousands of schools. Thousands of hospitals. Thousands of centers for helping the poor, disabled, homeless. I became Catholic after volunteering for 2 1/2 years as a homeless volunteer in Seattle where we’d go around and pick up the homeless and take them to the church center where we’d set up beds and cook them meals in the dead of cold rainy Seattle winters.
      The Mormon church has BYU and few satellite campuses. No primary schools. They used to “own” LDS hospital but they sold it. They own radio and TV stations (pumping out garbage) and orange juice farms, etc. but no schools, no hospitals, no clinics no shelters.

      I pay 10% on my net income after necessary living expenses. No one forces you to pay 10% gross, that's a misconception. I actually dug into this a lot and there is a lot of misinformation in church around the doctrine of tithing and the church leadership hasn't actually never explicitly said you have to tithe 10% of gross. They say "10% of your increase" but they don't specify what increase means so that's left up to personal interpretation. Some people say it's income, I say it means your increase in net worth. That comes out to about 2% to 3% for me.

    • @harrisonlapahie3483
      @harrisonlapahie3483 3 роки тому +5

      @@kyle2034 It's 10% of your gross income. I am absolutely sure of that. I have specifically asked that question. I have never heard any Mormon (Bishop) tell me it's "10% of your increase" or "10% of your net income". For Mormons, paying a "full tithing" is a requirement to stay in "good standing" with the LDS Church, which means keeping your "Temple Recommend" card and continue receiving "Callings" in the LDS Church.
      Local LDS Ward members keep a Church record of your tithing payment, which is linked to the LDS Church. At the end of the fiscal year, LDS members are reminded to pay their full tithing before the fiscal year ends, and LDS members can get a printout of their tithing donations for possible tax purposes.
      The doctrine of "Tithing" is taught in Sunday School, during Elder's Quorum, and during Sacrament. LDS members who pay a full tithing are chosen to give a talk on "Tithing" during Sacrament. They never say "10% of your increase".
      I have not attended the LDS Church since the COVID-19 pandemic started in February 2020 when the LDS Wards and Branches across the USA were shut down. This past May 2nd 2021 (Sunday) was the first day that the LDS Shiprock Ward was open to meet face-to-face, but I and my family didn't go.
      If it happened that during this year off, when the LDS Church was closed because of COVID-19, that the LDS Church had changed their philosophy concerning "Tithing" as they had changed their philosophy and doctrine with:
      • polygamy,
      • blacks unable to have the "Priesthood",
      • Native Americans becoming a "white" and delightsome people, and
      • homosexuals being excommunicated from the LDS Church,
      then your saying that "tithing" means "10% of your increase" would be correct.

    • @kyle2034
      @kyle2034 3 роки тому +1

      @@harrisonlapahie3483 Yes I don't doubt you've been told that. Bishops have been known to run their wards depending on their own personal views of the commandments and it doesn't always line up with church policy. Sometimes converts from other protestant churches that have stricter definitions of tithing bring their traditions into the Mormon church. Personally, I've asked multiple bishoprics over the years and they all say the same thing, which is that the Lord hasn't specified if it's on gross or net income and that decision is between you and the Lord.
      The reason for this is a lot of people run their own businesses so would you pay tithing on your revenue or net income after expenses? If you had a million in revenue but 900,000 in business expenses including paying others' salaries, tithing would leave you with nothing if it was on gross revenue.
      That's also why at year-end, they don't ask you your income they simply ask if you're a full tithe payer and you declare yourself whether or not you are.

    Dr. Marshall, St. Thomas Aquinas explanation on the 3 Heavens is not only interesting, but quite obvious to Spanish speaking people. You perhaps know this already. In Spanish, both 'Heaven' and 'sky', share the same word: 'cielo' (from latin, caelum). 'Cielo' can also refer to the atmosphere, specifically. One could also reference 'space' as 'los cielos', but most commonly the word 'espacio' is used. Still, the bodies in outer space are referred to as 'cuerpos celestes' (from the latin, caelestis), and the same holds true for the English language, in which you speak indistinctly of heavenly or celestial bodies.

      And not forgetting the fact that people didn't have a true acknowledge about space, so did used to think it was just the sky (cielo). Cielo = sky = space, BUT aside of that, Cielo = heaven being not the same as cielo (sky/space), hahahaha it sounds weird but it's understandable depending on the context.
      For example: "Look at that bird in the "cielo"! (sky)" is not the same as "Oh God who is in the "cielo" (heaven)."

      I read an alternate explanation of "the third heaven" in a Jewish commentary. . We may also have heard the expression "seventh heaven." So, what's up ? Well, the Old Testament (Hebrew Scriptures) uses 7 different words for heaven. So, it was concluded by the rabbis that there were 7 levels of heaven, and the 7th was the abode of the Divine. They also speculated that each level of heaven was as large as a journey of 500 years -- to express, I forget the word -- the highness of God above the earth. In Judaism, there were different opinions among the rabbis, so Paul is probably expressing one school of thought of his day.

      Ive been a mormon since birth living in australia so im the minority here, not like utah but i have the strongest conviction that the lds church will get u closer to god then any other church, let me explain how i came to this conclusion.
      1. Ok maybe u die at a very young age or even a baby, some of the christian believes that baby have sin from adam and eve, and that a baby is going straight to hell because he or she hasnt been baptised and so on. Imagine that, a baby that has no idea of what is happening goes to live with satan in hell i cant imagine god being very merciful and wouldnt worship that god. What i believe is a baby is perfect no sin, we dont have any sin until we are old enough to be able to know what we are doing is right or wrong the age is 8 years old in my church to be baptised.
      2. I will say to the plan of salvation yes we believe that there are 3 kindoms of glory when we die we will go to one of these places, and I will explain why this makes more sence then just a heaven and a hell. If u were not interested in god or maybe didnt grow up or hear about it in you life on this planet, u would not be saved u would be in hell. Also if u have commited some sins and right on the border of being in heaven but not quite ready to be in his presents and so if ur not accepting god but change ur mind later well it would be to late by some christian beliefs u would be in hell, and theres nothing in between also with no way out.
      Ok so we believe that if u have not been baptised u wouldnt go straight to hell out of god presents u would be able to continue to grow and learn on the lowest kingdom which will give u opertunity to accept jesus, god and become like him and live with him. Now that sound good to me, there still is a place where satan lives in outer darkness where only the worst of the worst go. Also we believe u will feel comfitable in the place u will go, and that the lowest kingdom is far better then living on this earth so it will be glorious to live there. We also have a temple to do work for the dead who have died and have not been baptised and recieved the holy ghost the oppertunity to accept god and be baptised, that is a much more merciful god to me. Even when dead u still have the opertunity to accept if u want to be baptised or not. Much better then the options of the other christian beliefs, i think.
      3. We always believe that in the book of mormon it doesnt talk of many gods its just the trinity one god, simple. How did god became god, it say alot in the bible about how we are children of god and he wants us to live with him again and be like him. So what does that say, im just speculating but if he wants us to be like him how do we do that, and to what degree, is it a little like him or actually like him with all his glory and perfect like him to be like god. We are children of god our spirit comes from god and we live in this mortal existence for a very short time maybe a hundred years then we die and like jesus we will be resurected eventually when god says its time and our body will be reunited with our spirit, so we will have a body that is perfect and will be imortal and can live forever and never die, which is what as a mormon i believe, and i hope is what most christians believe too. But what the difference is that they think we will just be praising god for trillions and billions of years with no growth, which sounds boring, i believe that as we live with jesus we continue growing and learning how god is, the nature of god and how he does what he does, that sound much more interesting and that like a child learns from his father most things i think we will learn alot about where god came from and so on. All our questions will be answered. Death isnt the end its just part of our experience and journey, but that my opinion.

      In the July/August 2018 edition of "Biblical Archaeology Review" on page 33, is an article "Egyptian Papyrus Sheds New Light on Jewish History." The author is Karel van der Toorn. The article is about a papyrus roll discovered in the late 19th century at Luxor (ancient Thebes). It took more than 120 years to decipher the text. It was discovered that Egyptian Demotic script had been used to write Aramaic text! The translation turned out to be three Israelite psalms written about 400BC. This is an example of a type of"Reformed Egyptian" used by Israelites and discovered by non-LDS.

      a little simplistic. “Things that exist” includes matter, dark matter, where space is a mere absence of matter. Special dimensions can be described in 3 coordinate dimensions, but can also be described in different methods. St Thomas Aquinas warns us not to use weak/coincidental arguments, as a disproof of simple ideas can make us look foolish

    I see a lot of ex-Mormons who are impressed. I’m a Catholic, gone Mormon, gone Catholic again. I’m not impressed. All I see is establishing the differences, not “stomping” them.
    Mormons, such as these straw man missionaries are taught to rely on their “testimonies” of the gospel. A testimony is a completely simple (or blind) faith based knee jerk reaction that the Church is true in the face of any criticism because the Holy Ghost personally told ME the Book of Mormon is true.
    Therefore the way “stump” a missionary is to target that testimony. One of the things that took me out of Mormonism is realizing that the Book of Mormon doesn’t teach Mormonism. Seriously, it doesn’t. It teaches trinitarianism in Mosiah, pacifism in Alma, forensic justification Enos, anti-clericalism in 2 Nephi and Mosiah, and more.
    They will then lean on modern revelation, the idea that their leaders are prophets like Moses and everything they say is as good as scripture. Most have never heard of Adam-God and would not believe in it, yet Brigham Young said it was a matter of salvation to believe it. Or mention that the “less valiant souls” theory of African Americans was taught by Ezra Taft Benson in General Conference, essentially ex cathedra.
    Mormons are well aware that they have non-mainstream beliefs. Throwing them in their face just makes you look like a butt head. To have a chance to convince them they are wrong find the ground they are really standing on, because this video is the tip of the iceberg.

      BOOM! You hit the nail directly on the head. No amount of empirical evidence taken from the Bible or from other (religious or secular) sources will sway a Mormon, or anyone else whose religious beliefs are based directly on an emotional response. I really wish more apologetics targeting the LDS church really understood this.

    I am Catholic and my daughter is Mormon. I have over 20 years of experience with Mormons and their beliefs. I have studied this cult extensively.
    Dr. Marshall is amazing. The problem with efforts in speaking with Mormons is that even the bible is not a good enough reference to refute Mormon beliefs. They will only accept biblical scripture "as long as it is correctly translated". In reality, this means that they can twist God's word, as Joseph Smith did, to satisfy their beliefs. We, as Catholics know that they do not believe in the Trinity, and they speak the same words when they baptize, "in the name of the father, the son, and the Holy Ghost" yet we also know that it does not mean the same thing as our exact words.
    What I have found is that Mormons do not study biblical languages nor the traditions of the times. Joseph Smith was clever. He drew from the bible and was a master of deceit. He made scripture appear as something else.However, one fact remains - NO Mormon missionary can ever prove anything in their church and Catholics can prove everything.
    I continue to pray for my daughter and Mormons everywhere. As Catholics, we want everyone to be saved!
    Peace!!!

    Speaking as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who served a full time mission to Italy I learned to love so many things about the Catholic faith and I love the Italian people. I always appreciated a good discussion about my faith vs. Catholicism. I even spoke with many Priests while I was in Italy serving as a mormon missionary. We don’t view our doctrines as “strange”, because they are our doctrines. Just like Catholics don’t view their own doctrines as strange. I know many individuals that view any religious doctrine as strange, no matter what the faith. I prefer to compare and contrast doctrines rather than labeling them as “strange” because your own doctrines will always be strange to someone not of your faith. I think it is important to try and respect individuals religious beliefs. Also, it was never embarrassing to me for someone to point out the differences of their Catholic Faith and my Faith. The varying interpretations of the Bible has created almost innumerable different Christian Faiths. Mormons (members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) absolutely have a number of different doctrines than the Catholic Church, but we are not embarrassed by these differences. They are just different than yours and they are not crazy to us. An atheist they would tell all of us that we are crazy to believe Jesus is God. I believe that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer. Some people would call that crazy, but I suspect most individuals watching this video would share that belief. I love all my brothers and sisters in Christ, even if we do have differences in our doctrines.

      It is not members of the Church that converts anyone. It is the Holy Ghost. He is the testifier of all truth.
      When I converted... I did not worry about losing my faith from what I was born with. I just listened to what was presented to me... and it was the Spirit of God that converted me. I had never felt that Spirit before. As I read the Book of Mormon... I knew what I was reading was truthful. When I listened to story of the 14 year old boy Joseph Smith... who saw God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ... I knew deep within that the story was true. I never had such a testimony of anything like that in my life.
      I can remember reading in the Book of Mormon... what the Prophet Moroni has said at the end of his writings to his people in a future time. He said:
      I would exhort you
      that ye would ask God,
      the Eternal Father,
      in the name of Christ,
      if these things are not true;
      and if ye shall ask
      with a sincere heart,
      with real intent,
      having faith in Christ,
      he will manifest the truth of it unto you,
      by the power of the Holy Ghost.

And there has been several annointed persons in scripture. Every king of israel was annointed as he took the throne. Jesus was annointed with the holy spirit at his baptism. There he became the christ.

    @Dr Taylor Marshall - as a humanist it is pure comedy gold to watch this recurring feature of the faithful. When assailing the faith beliefs of other people, just like you do here, you employ your critical reasoning and present the case (notwithstanding the resort to scripture, which comprises books of claims, not evidence). When it comes to defending your own faith claims the cognitive dissonance returns and the critical faculties become as visible as your God. If we were created in his likeness all of us would be invisible too.

In 1931, Judge Rutherford, his successor, decided that henceforth they would be called, Witnesses of Jehovah, or Jehovah’s Witness. The JWs deny the Trinity, deny the Sonship, deity, and divinity of Christ, deny His physical resurrection, the resurrection of the body, and refuse to take blood transfusions. They claim their “messiah” to be the Archangel Michael. (Totally Non-Biblical!)

    As Christians we all have the opportunity to receive the Love of Jesus Christ. Some may find it in scripture others in the straight way through Grace; no matter, as the bible says, "straight is the way, narrow is the gate." I was happy to see that this video actually did have reference to bible texts. Although I was disappointed with the fact that the speaker used the word "Strange" to comment on the teachings of the Mormon. Every church and every denomination have something that someone does not agree with, but we should never criticize as such. Furthermore, I know the Catholic teaching very well, but am not one. I also believe that the Catholics have strange traditions, but I would never say that to anyone person, lest my family or friends.

    I find it so interesting every heresy, muhammadism, mormonism, protestantism, etc all receive a private revelation and a man who felt he knew better than church teaching. Sadly all of these lack a common thread and that is the reason and intellect and we are supposed to believe these men as they suddenly have a new truth. Thank God for the magisterium of the Catholic Church and Christ's gift of the keys of the Church to Peter.

    [23] I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

      cdowis, John 17:22 says nothing about Eve. And what verses follows are telling us that the faithful, the believers, will be perfected through the blood of Jesus to join Him in eternal glory.
      Rev 3:21 tells us that Jesus' followers will share his throne. In heaven we will experience the beatific vision which is the vision of all three of God's personages in one. God loved us so much that he humbled himself and took on the body of a man to experience human suffering as we do. He made himself an example to show us that we too can overcome great adversities to share in the kingdom.
      Rom 3:21 More of the same. Jesus is showing us that we too, because of his divine love, can share in the kingdom.
      No it is not polytheism, because the Father , Son and Holy Spirit are one God, three personages, not three separate gods. And the only way that we ARE able to become joint heirs is because Jesus (God) came down, died on the cross and was resurrected. Without that selfless act none of us could become heirs.

      • JUDE 3 "Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was *ONCE* delivered unto the saints."
      The Greek word for *ONCE* is "hapax". This is not *ONCE* in the sense of once among many, but *ONCE* as in one time numerically & *ONCE* for all conclusively. The Latin (semel)...it has perpetual validity that NEVER requires repetition. It's the same idea found in these verses...
      • HEBREWS 9:26 "For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now *ONCE* in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself"
      • HEBREWS 9:27 "And as it is appointed unto men *ONCE* to die, but after this the judgment"
      • HEBREWS 9:28 "So Christ was *ONCE* offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation
      • HEBREWS 7:27 "...for this he did *ONCE* when he offered up himself."
      • HEBREWS 10:10 "By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ *ONCE*for all"
      You see, if Jesus is the "GOOD SHEPHERD", He would hardly be such if He left the church unattended & without His watch care, where it would need a "RESTORATION".
      Christians pray for your conversion. No, NOT to some specific church/denomination, but that you'll turn to Christ for eternal life. I know, I know...you'll be quick to reply, "But we DO trust Christ". Sadly though, it is NOT the Christ of the bible. You may use the same vocabulary, but you're reading from a different dictionary.

And look up the abuse by priests and nuns in orphanages. There are places in Ireland where secret burials of children and babies have been found decades too late to prosecute the dead nuns who ran those places. Why do you think Ireland has gone from one of the most Catholic countries a few decades ago, to total rejection of the Catholic church where only old people attend today?

    A few years ago I had the pleasure of weekly visits from these sweet young men who I invited in and had really enjoyable talks and debates! It gave me a chance to sharpen up my apologetics and they theirs. I love early church history and the church fathers and we were able to get into some deep talks and I was having a good time! After about 6 weeks of visits I just couldn't allow them to waste their time on me no matter how much I enjoyed their company or how much fun I was having . I told them that while I thought they were wonderful young men that I was a devoted Catholic and the God I worshipped was eternal with no beginning and no end. He is almighty, full of power and grace, beyond a beginning or definition and there is no way you could convince me otherwise. Then I couldn't help myself, I had to say it, altho' in all good humor; "If I were to believe that my God was once a baby that would mean that my God at one stage pooped His pants and picked His nose and that notion cannot be reconciled with the Almighty I know and love!" We all laughed , wished each other well and parted ways. I often remember them with fondness and hope that at times when they are still and quiet that they ponder the things I shared.

To understand us one would need to understand mortality at least in a similar way as we do so it seems to be the case he was somehow able to experienced it on some level to some degree otherwise one could not understand mortality, exactly how he did it while still being God the details of that are pretty much unknown to anyone within the Church. While the first three points are sound, I have to admit that I struggle with the concept of eternal hell. It just doesn't make sense to me. Why would merciful God sustain eternal existence of the souls in hell, if they have no prospect of salvation? Either eventually grant forgiveness, or make those souls cease to exist.
    Why would I want to have children, if it involves a risk of them ending up in hell for eternity? That would be unspeakably cruel on my part. Please help me to understand this part of the Catholic faith.

    • @caruya
      @caruya 9 років тому

      +standev1 Hell as described in scriptures is allegory. Jesus did mention hell many times. Hell is now "understood" better and for our benefit it's actually worse than described in scriptures. First of all God does not send people to hell, God has not created a "special" place for bad people where they can suffer forever as punishment. All this is allegorical. If that were the case God would not be perfect, because God would have the need to "do" justice and God does not "avenge" in the way the understand it. God does not have "needs". You just need to understand a bit better the nature of God as revealed to us. God is all merciful an God is love, this creates in God perfect justice, which means that if God "sends" us to hell or we go to hell, is because he is merciful. I know it sounds strange but hang in there.
      Jesus said, that, of God's qualities, the least we can understand is his justice. And he was right, thats why people stop believing in hell. The scenario when we die is, that most likely we are revealed with the true, or we will come into an understanding of God and also knowing yourself. The math will resolve into a decision to love God or to hate him, because if we loved God on earth, when we see him, we want him forever and if we didn't, we will start hating him. This is because God will not reflect the thing you have HOPED for in your heart, which ultimately was something else. Now, logically, the presence of God will become painful, just like being in a very bad marriage, and the thing is that, it will be forever, why forever? because God cannot stop being God, but you and your spouse can change and become better person. After death the personas we chose to become on earth are eternal, just like God is eternal. So the presence of God is so painful that he gives you a final mercy (actually hell is technically a final mercy) he will "give" you what you wanted in your heart, and that will be your "hell". So in other words, we will not want to go to heaven we will want to go far away from it, because we can't stand being there, but since God is everywhere and we cannot escape him, he will "turn" away from us to make the ones in hell suffer "less", and that person is finally "happy" in hell with his "sins" that shaped his persona and the desires in his heart away from God. So ultimately that person lost everything and gained nothing, because only God can fulfill the eternal desire in the heart. Like Chesterton said "the gates of hell are locked from the inside" Hell is a choice, not a verdict.
      I hoped this helped a bit to grasp something, I also need more wisdom and prayer so that I loved God more.

    • @Doughnut-

      God is merciful, yes, but if everyone just went to heaven directly, no matter what you did on Earth, you would be seeing God as a tyrant. So then what about the free will we should have? It would not really be free will in this case.
      So, we need to open our minds, search for Gods message, repent, etc to hopefully one day get to Heaven. God grants us the grace so that we may one day achieve Heaven(:
