  • Finally got around to making a rain barrel. It'll mainly be used to collect rainwater for the gardens, but it's always good to have some water on hand in an emergency, since it falls from the sky anyways might as well grab some.

    Great video!
We did one last year. I was excited as to how fast it fills in a rain storm but then I realized we needed a bigger barrel.
I may have missed it but you may want to consider an over flow pipe to direct the excess water back to the main drain.
When I built ours I put a screen at the top of the downspout as well; in retrospect that was a mistake - I’ve now got climb up and clear that instead of at the barrel level 🤦‍♂️
FWIW I’ve used those barrel caps before; I ended up fashioning a ‘T’ shape out of a scrap of wood to get leverage and unscrew them.

      Thanks!
Ya, this barrel will fill up really quickly with one rainfall. An overflow system did occur to me shortly after setting it up. We have another barrel, so that'll be the overflow. Whatever overflows from the over flow will get directed away from the house.
      Thanks for the t-wrench tip!
