  • Laura Conner is associate director of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute and is also a research professor. She develops science learning programs and studies science identity, interest and motivation.
At the American Geophysical Union annual meeting Wednesday, she presented findings of her co-created, classroom-based citizen science project in Fairbanks, Alaska, where concentrations of fine particulate matter of less than 2.5 microns in diameter are some of the highest in the nation. Students asked their own questions about air quality and collected data with small sensors that they built and programmed.
