    Thank you for not having a 90-second intro at the beginning where you tell us what you're going to tell us before you tell us! ;'D That was so refreshing. And also great info on the figs. I was wondering if my pot was too small, but I'm thinkin' it's not!

    You're so lively and fun to watch. I have a question. I've propagated three fig cuttings in one container. Do I have to separate them or can they thrive in one pot? How far apart can they be planted anyway on ground? They're still indoors as they're not used to the dryness and the wind outside (I had a plastic bag over them when they rooted). Which leads me to my second question, when do I take them outside?

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Era, thanks for watching! Yes you need to separate the cuttings. When you see vigorous growth, plant your rooted fig cuttings in larger pots or outdoors when the weather allows...no more frost danger. If planting outdoors, plant the rooting fig’s flat end 6 inches deep in hole 6 inches wide and about a foot apart. Keep the transplants moist for the rest of the summer and watch them grow!

      @EdenMakers  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, Thanks for watching. The water requirements for fig trees is ...as a general rule 1-1 ½ inches of water per week either from rainfall or irrigation. The tree will let you know if it needs to be watered by the yellowing of its foliage and the dropping of leaves. Hope that helps!

    Is there any particular type of potting soil for fig trees in fabric pots? I've been searching the internet and cannot seem to find an answer to this. I would like to be able to purchase a bagged potting soil, i.e. Happy Frog, etc. Great video!

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  3 роки тому

      Hi, Cufflink812, They type of soil doesn't change if you use a fabric pot. It really only depends on the type of plant. Figs can grow in virtually any soil type but prefer a sandy-clay loam within a pH range of 6.0 to 8.0 tolerating soils with high lime content. It should be moisture retentive and free draining - figs thrive in any soil with good drainage.

    How would figs grow inside please? We have the space and a sunny window for it. I’m just not sure about if the leaves will drop over ‘winter’ in a homeostatic environment and if the fruit will ripen.

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you so much for watching my video and for your question! If you have a south-facing window in your apartment or a sunny conservatory on your house your fig tree will thrive. All they need is 6-8 hours of light daily and they will grow just fine. Use a 5-gallon container and position it somewhere that gets at least 6 hours light, the more light the more fruit it will produce. Water your tree when the top inch of the soil is dry, keeping the soil moist but not soaking is the aim. Use a slow release granular fertilizer.

    Hi, I grow fig trees in containers and they do well in St Louis, MO. I have Chicago and Turkey and both are fast growing and they give fruits fast! I do have a question for you, I grew a Celset variety in the ground and it seems it dies back in the winter but it regrows fast and gets tall but no fruits and it is has been in the ground for 3 years, would you know when should I expect fruit?

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  4 роки тому

      Hi Jay! Interestingly enough, fig trees usually bear much better when they are planted in containers. The roots of the tree prosper when they are in tight quarters. I’m not surprised your in-ground tree is not as active. It usually takes a few years (3 to 5) for a tree to mature and fruit. Hope this helps!

    why the figs goes black insde

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  4 роки тому +1

      Smut causes the internal tissues of the fig cavity to turn black and powdery from the production of black spores produced by the three Aspergillus spp. ... When the dried fig is pressed, a clout of spores can erupt from the ostiole.

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  4 роки тому +1

      @@hackyourheart5235 Remove all old fruit culls and refuse from the orchard on which driedfruit beetles and vinegar flies might breed. Also, avoid creating excess dust, especially during August when fruit becomes susceptible to the smut fungi. No chemical treatments are recommended for this disease.
