    Nice tear down Eddie. There seems to be some skepticism about this meter from folks and suspect it's because of cost and not widely known. The circuit board looks beautifully conceived and implemented, the case seems up to the task, easy access to fuse and batteries, display looks good, ETC.. Lots of features and rugged construction. I think we need an accuracy test comparison between meters of relatively the same cost, $400+/- say. I'm no expert so I'll leave that up to you😉 Great video, thanks.

    Ed: just had expected more of a sealed battery compartment as this is what destroys a good meter when unattended. Quite an impressive population of components and yeah, nice artwork and coating. Didn't recall seeing if their probes were up to the same quality as the meter, but assume they were. Thanks!

    Hi Eddie. In Europe where I live, it comes from Benning (Germany). The real maker is APPA in Taiwan. The make a lot of meters for OEMs but you can buy it directly as APPA. There are some minor differences among OEMS. So APPA modifies thw products for each OEM as per their needs. It is a good meter aiming the professionals. The Bluetooth capability helps me a lot. A good thing is that Benning MM12 is coming complete in its case so you don't need to pay extras as in Fluke.

    • @KissAnalog
      @KissAnalog  8 місяців тому

      Thanks for the info! I think I'm putting the pieces together... APPA is part of the MGL International and so is several other companies including KPS. So APPA must make the meters for KPS as well to be sold in other countries, but Benning is not part of MGL, so they must get it private labeled for them. It seems in general the MGL group provides some really great equipment at a much better price than the well known brands.

      @@KissAnalog I want to test the bluetooth function in some harsh industrial environment, such as on ship's engine room and put the meter enclosed in an elecyrical panel. Then I want to check the link at my mobile. That is very helpful when safety is a concern. I used the Fluke 233 with removable display for that. But MM12 has a lot of functions that fluke 233 has not. I will revert on that. Regards

    Nice design, pity about that colour, not sure I could be doing with that! More seriously, the lens on the display is a bit of a letdown at that price point. Rather than a clear plastic molding, should have cut it from sheet polycarbonate to get it optically flat.

    • @KissAnalog
      @KissAnalog  8 місяців тому

      Thanks John! I kind of like the green;) I'm not sure about the display, it is physically flat and seems hard, but I did leave the film on it to protect it. I should probably take them all off for the camera. I like to leave them on if they look good on the bench, but they would show better on camera - so should I take off the film?

    Eddie could you test and comment on the slow auto-range responce in Ohms ?

    • @KissAnalog
      @KissAnalog  8 місяців тому

      Thanks for asking. I didn't notice that but I didn't really use it much in low ohms. Are you talking below 100 ohms or maybe below 1 ohm?

    • @athenian10
      @athenian10 8 місяців тому

      @@KissAnalog Yes when you have open circuit and you need to measure low ohms below 400 OHMS which is the first/last range then the meter takes as long as 5-6 seconds to settle. The only cure is to use manual range.

    • @athenian10
      @athenian10 8 місяців тому

      There is no such thing as perfect meter anyway. The Brymen 869s is also a good meter but if you need to measure mV AC on DC e.g the output of a power supply (ripple measurement) then the meter is masked by the DC. You need to use an external cap to do that. On the contrary, MM12 is perfect for that.

    Looks impressive. But I don't know how much I trust "KPS" (who is that?!) to use this meter for other than low voltage / low energy systems. And will it be durable (mechanically, electrically and accuracy) over time?
    For me at least, this is at a price point where I think more about the purchase and if I should go with a better known brand.

    • @KissAnalog
      @KissAnalog  8 місяців тому +3

      Thanks for the great point. I'm new to this brand, but one look under the hood has me impressed. I'd trust this meter as much as any other IMHO.

    I can tell these guys are trying really hard to make a solid meter but the support is just not there. Here's some constructive criticism in case someone at KPS is listening. The user manual is 17 pages in English including the filler pages.. I want to see 400 pages going over every little intricate feature and detail to the point that I can never even look at this meter and know exactly how it functions and what it's capable of. I don't see any online help or FAQ in case I have a problem. There's zero information on their website about what kind of warranty coverage I should expect. If something breaks out of warranty I want to be able to order any part of this meter and have it within a few days. Also make the software open source so devs can tinker with it and build kits to adapt this meter for more applications. If they can do this and do it well then I see a huge market for repair friendly high-end meters. I doubt anyone in Taiwan even cares to read this but it's worth a shot.

    • @KissAnalog
      @KissAnalog  8 місяців тому +2

      Thanks for the feedback! I like your list, but 400 pages?? I don't even see half this for an expensive oscilloscope;) The 3 year warranty is on the box;) Where can you buy any part these days and have it delivered that quickly? With Tek I had to send my scope to them with a check. The software is free - so hard to complain when others make you sign up for a monthly subscription. What makes them repair friendly is that the parts are all easy to see values and part numbers.

    • @markm0000
      @markm0000 8 місяців тому +2

      @@KissAnalog Just because nobody else is doing it doesn't mean they shouldn't. This meter has so many features and options with connectivity, software, and all the internals--I could easily fill up 400 pages going over everything. Someone somewhere is going to buy this and get stuck doing something with that software. They're going to hate not having any way to figure it out without waiting days for customer support to respond to an email. Sure having parts visible is nice, but what happens if one of those processors start glitching out of warranty? Is it just e-waste at that point? I want schematics, known values, parts list, diag header, dev kits, firmware, etc. etc. I didn't say the parts availability and shipping was going to be cheap. When time is money, a lot of people are willing to pay the price to fix a meter this expensive. When a customer knows after the 3 year warranty--they can pick up the phone and get any part they need, that is a huge confidence boost. That creates a healthy used market and that's why I am never afraid of buying a used yellow meter brand. These guys are up against huge name brands in this industry and from what I can tell they're just trying to make a quick buck.

    • @beaubonicplague
      @beaubonicplague 8 місяців тому

      @@markm0000I think this is a little unreasonable to ask a company to be able to provide this level of support, it's a multimeter, not a super advanced piece of equipment, tinkerers will figure that stuff out on their own, I suggest taking their customer support for a spin before you rag on a company's product support. Jus' sayin'. If you could give an example of a company that does four of the many things you're asking from them in terms of schematics, part value etc, that would be meaningful discussion. But as far as I am aware the high tech companies keep this info under tight lips.

    • @markm0000
      @markm0000 8 місяців тому

      @@beaubonicplague Bro I have a 87V and I can get a repair manual, schematics, and every part I need for it directly online right now. You're telling me a company that owns 3 testing equipment brands can't scrape by enough funding to make a better system to compete? They just want obedient little customers that will ship it in for warranty during the 3 year period, wait who knows how long for it to return, and then buy a new one afterwards. The software will probably stop working for older models just because. That's not buying a product, that's leasing it.

    • @beaubonicplague
      @beaubonicplague 8 місяців тому

      @@markm0000 just like how fluke is selling their fluke connect as a software as a service that renders the device completely useless unless you pay for the service...If a product is no longer being produced then I agree, release the documentation etc. but if it is still actively being produced, that company has the right to control the quality of their products, if there is a defect in their products they'll want to learn what exactly went wrong, maybe they don't have an idea what is causing the issue and need that tool to be sent in for study.
      Research and development plays a factor in it more so than making "obedient customers"
