In the future just to help out with perfecting your welding I recommend cleaning all metal surfaces to be welded prior to the final weld up it will help make for a cleaner weld. Great video as I have a similar idea with the forge I'm building.
Looks like you added a coupling to the torch so it would sit in the fire block? Could you show a detailed video on how you set the torch into the fire block prior to welding it secure. Great video on file knife!
I made my burner using the same video you linked to. The burner worked perfectly in the vise but when I mounted it into the forge the flame was super weak like it wasn’t getting enough oxygen. I ended up getting it to burn hot enough by hooking up a shop vac (backwards as a blower instead of a vac) to push air into the first reducer coupling that the “nozzle” gets clamped into. Which works but it’s frustrating that everyone else’s seems to work but mine. Not sure what I did wrong. I used all the same components.
one of the big things is making sure to flare out the hole in the brick on the internal chamber side of the hole and then make sure that you have a high pressure regulator. When you use forced are you can use a lower pressure regulator like one for a grill.
I like the forge. I'm building mine from an old propane tank, already got most of the stuff gathered up just waiting on warmer weather. I got lucky and found a place near San Antonio Tx. that makes fire bricks thats only about 45 minute drive and they are cheap so it's worth the drive.
It held up great. the only reason I rebuilt it was because I started forge welding in it. All that flux started melting the firebricks, which is a normal thing. The mortar caulking held up just fine though.
Any long term experience? How are the bricks holding up? Anything to improve? Would be interesting because few people actually do follow ups on their forges
Hi, love the channel. Quick question, the soft fire bricks you've used, what is the last dimension. So, they are 9x4.5x? The ones I have are 9x4.5x3 so the space inside the forge seems smaller than what yours looks like. Thanks.
I just built a similar forge, first fire up I had some bricks crack, is that normal? Also does the shaft if your burner get hot or did I do something wrong?
It held up better than the bricks did. Here is a link for it: www.amazon.com/Rutland-Fireplace-Mortar-10-3-Cartridge/dp/B000H5R5IS/ref=sr_1_16?dchild=1&keywords=fire+brick+seam+sealer&qid=1611549712&sr=8-16

Been wanting to start forging. Thank you so much for this video
I like it, just that the glue makes it so when one of those bricks inevitably cracks apart, this makes it more difficult to replace just the 1 brick.
Awesome, been lookin for this video. Now I know what to build. Thanks..
Cool
That came out nice
thanks this looks great with the firecement
practical
thanks for sharing i appreciate the knowledge
Perfect forge!!!

Excellent!
Im gonna make one

I'll show it in a Shop Talk Tuesday episode for you.
@@theriversexperience9383 Did you ever have a shop talk video showing this yet? Thanks love the videos, I'm learning alot from you!
I was thinking about drilling dowel holes to hold the bricks together so it can be taken apart and moved.

The Rivers' Experience thanks for the reply. I did use a 20psi regulator like the video suggested.

Yeah the fire brick tends to be the more expensive part of the build.
can you specifically say what kind of firebrick seam sealer you used?
Going to be building one of these myself thanks for the ideas was wondering how has it held up after 1 year?
It held up great. the only reason I rebuilt it was because I started forge welding in it. All that flux started melting the firebricks, which is a normal thing. The mortar caulking held up just fine though.
How long does a standard propane tank, running at full temp usually last?
It would run about 10-12 hours.
Do you think this kind of set up could be used to heat treat bamboo on a small scale?
I've never tried it but I guess it could.

There is there video as a follow up......

Thank you for the video. could you tell me what the adhesive - caulk was. Again thank you for sharing
Its fire brick mortar caulk. You can get it off of Amazon.
burner start at @03:15
Do you ever worry about doing this indoors in your garage? With all the wood structure etc around you?
All the time, I just make sure that I'm paying attention the entire time.
Thanks!! I’m trying to figure out my setup. Love your videos truly inspiring. Keep it up thank you so much!!
What kind of bricks are those? My fire bricks are much harder and thinner and not as uniform. And they are not cheap.
You can get these from hightemptools.com they are 2600° soft fire bricks.
The link for the fire bricks is also in the description if the video.

Mine are 9x4.5x3 you should have a 3x4.5 chamber.
Thanks!
Can you use mortar instead of the caulking?
Hello, can I use a blowtorch instead this burner?
You could but I would go with a smaller forge chamber. It would take too long for a torch to heat up the chamber on a forge this size.
@@theriversexperience9383 Thanks mate !
How many bricks were used in construction??
I just built a similar forge, first fire up I had some bricks crack, is that normal? Also does the shaft if your burner get hot or did I do something wrong?
What is the average amount of propane used on a knife?
Thanks
I haven't had a chance to figure that out yet. I will be figuring it out soon though.
whats the product you used in the caulking gun? i didn't catch that part.
It's high temp fire place mortar caulk. You can get it at any hardware store.
Yeah. I ended up not needing on my build, posted first burn video, but next time for sure. Thanks.
whos the guy that made the adaptar??????????????
How did that seam sealer hold up? What brand? Thanks
It held up better than the bricks did. Here is a link for it:

Yeah, my bricks started cracking.
How long did a tank of gas last?
They typically last me a week or more. I don't really try to track it.
Nice video! How long does a tank of gas last you?
I’m curious too
can you still make 1 if you don't have a welder?
You can there are other videos here on youtube that show how
What brand seam sealer did you use?
Here is a link for it:

can you use bricks as an anvil?
Not those soft fire bricks, you can rub them away with your hands
What did you use, and where did you get the material you're using for the frame?
This was just a cheap small Harbor Freight work table that the forge went on top of.
Probably should have copied this forge
