*Yitzhak. I reckoned the same thing, til the RENT scene where Yitzhak finally stands up to Hedwig "I'm going to Guam!, and I want Divorce." I looked closely and realised that was 100% an actress playing Yitzhak.
I saw the original... and I just found out Diana Trout from Younger was also Yitzhak! And she was brilliant, of course. But, I also produced (and stage managed) it in Richmond, VA in 2001. Our Yitzhak, Jill Bari Steinberg, also pretty damned brilliant under direction by Dan Ruth. (The band rehearsed in my basement).
I love her on Younger. And I’ve loved Hedwig since it came out. When I saw her on UA-cam commenting on Hedwig I was thinking, why are they asking her? Didn’t realize she was Yitzak until this moment! So cool.
A Hedwig fan for nearly 5 years now, I see how late I am to the party. It makes me wonder, which play preceded Hedwig as the gold standard of rock opera? BTW, Ms. Shor is an angel. My heart just melted.
When I first saw the movie I didn't know it was a woman playing Yitzak, but thought, "Why's his voice so high!?" 🤣

Is that sarcasm ????!!! Ha hahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Miriam was brilliant as Yitzhak. I don't reckon any other actor could have played that role more perfectly.
