    I’ve had my pair for 6 months man they go through some stars, I go weekly to my local pet store to get starfish to feed them. They are pretty awesome mine have grew double there size in 6 months.
    I really didn’t think they would eat some many,,,,
    They are one of my moms favorite things to see in my reef when she comes to visit me.
    Good luck with your if you try to keeping your one,,,
    Again I have a pair, good luck Reefing ✨

    Yep, getting to a point where they are becoming quite widespread, I'm at the verge of trying out a harlequin shrimp for asterina-control purposes

      They really work well in my experience, but that's all they eat.

      @@TheCoralReefTalk funny you should ask, I have not taken any action yet, and I'm only slightly concerned, although I would be suspect that they might snack on any zoas I would add. Still considering a harlequin, but they're a bit pricey and I know I will need to return them after they've done their work. Only wish there was a prepared frozen diet that included starfish. That would make it easier to keep the shrimp over the long-term, after they've eradicated the pests.

      Are the stars bothering any thing in your tank currently? Your right a food for them would be great. Manual removal of the little stars can help, if you have a lot, as you do maintenance grab a handful. 😀

      @@TheCoralReefTalk that is really hard to say, although I suspect that they took out a few zoa's and maybe also a couple of cloves

    there are over 100 species of Asterina Starfish not all are pests you just have to get the correct species that will not harm coral and they would be a great cleanup crew.

    ive had these in my 10 gallon for a while, didnt think much of them, but i saw a few of them sucking on my new star polyp the other day and pulled them off, now i know why like 45 of the 50 zoanthid polyps slowly went missing....ive just been pulling them out whenever i see them now...im curious how they reproduce becuase ive pulled out maybe 20 so far and none of them have more than one full grown leg

    • @TheCoralReefTalk
      @TheCoralReefTalk  4 роки тому

      They reproduce by fragmentation they will split their legs which grow into new starfish. Yeah they will just clamp down on zoas.

    I have a problem with these stupid starfish. But I have a Royal gramma that’s has become aggressive and territorial over the years and has killed tailspin blennies. Do you think an fish will bully/kill the shrimp? Or do they generally leave them some?

    • @TheCoralReefTalk

      I believe some hawkish would go after shrimp, but I haven't heard of royal grammas bothering harlequin shrimp.
