- In the shop I go! A full restoration of a 100+ year old Canadian made lantern! I compiled this video in a way as to be both entertaining and step by step should you be interested in doing a project like this yourself, or one similar.

Yes! If only it could talk! I always had an intrest in old rusty items. I still have a small colection of rusty gold that i colected in my travels in the deep bush as a kid. I guess some things never change😆

50 years ago I went to my first deer camp and it was them lanterns alone for lighting. As the newbie it was my job to fill them and trim the wicks , wow you brought back some great memories and brought them two back as new . Thanks Marc

Amazing find! Beautiful repair. Love the look of the nice one. It will look amazing when out camping. However old rusty would look excellent hanging in any garage or man cave.

Really well done! You have a good eye to spot an original. There are so many fake lanterns out there from department stores that don't have the looks or quality of these. So lucky to get two intact globes as well. Those would be hard to find! I like all the processes you took that lamp through, the assessment, disassembly, parts borrowing, rust remover, primer and paint. The hammer look is nice. Only one thing to say about painting inside: OV cartridge on your respirator. There is no smell that gets through a good Organic Vapour filter and no headaches or hallucinations either, from being in the shed with spray paint! Wonderful job on this project, Marc. I like the both of them. The restored one can be put to use and the other can be oiled and hung up somewhere to look like the old west. We had old coal oil lanterns in the camp. Similar but without the intricate wind barrier globe, just a regular glass tube with an open top. Move to the head of the class, Marc! Full Stars !!
I am happy with the results and I do have a respirator, somewhere! I just could not find it😆 I may clean up the other and fit it with an LED and turn it into a lamp. maybe 🤔

Nice job Marc! I too have same attraction to older rusty things. Have restored quite a few vintage Coleman stoves and lanterns. Pickling vinegar is a great rust remover as well and cheap. Just need to watch closely on thin metal and rinse well or neutralize with baking soda after. Just subscribed:)
Colemans are fun ones to do! I may try that vinegar method, I have an axe to do sometime in the future👍

Thats great to hear Marc. Just finished bluing a #5 Hills Galt hewing hatchet I picked up a few weeks ago. Used G96 gun blue and it worked great with one application. Used various flap wheels from my angle grinder (rust stripper, 120 grit, rubber polisher) cleaned with gun solvent before bluing with foam brush. Made a 16" handle from maple firewood after splitting carefully and lots of carving, drawknifing and rasping.
That sounds like a great project! Good on you to solvent clean before hand as just oil from your fingers will ruin the blue. Thanks for sharing Mark you'll certainly have years of enjoyment out of this hatchet👍@@marksmith9295
