Let's take a moment to appreciate Deborah Foreman, who wasn't a great actress but was incredibly photogenic. She had a decent run in the 80's with horror films like this, but also Valley Girl (her best known film), My Chauffeur (my favorite of her films, and hers too), and some other supporting parts.

    • @heyheyjk-la

Deborah was fantastic in "Valley Girl", still one of my all-time favorite films with an amazing debut by Nicolas Cage. I recently went to a big anniversary screening in LA and almost the entire cast was there (no Nic, of course) along with director Martha Coolidge and members of The Plimsouls (but no Peter Case, sadly). It was really fun.

There's a thing called a squib. The size of a toothpick but less than a inch long. You push it into a cigar or cigarette. When it's ;it and burns down to the squib, the squib explodes. Not as much damage as they showed in the movie, usually just a loud pop.

I have always thought that Deborah Foreman did an amazing job of acting in "Valley Girl" (1983).
The script may be silly, but her reactions and dialog delivery seemed very natural for how teenagers behaved in 1983.

While this movie may not have "launched" any careers, there were quite a few that would work steadily in movies and TV throughout the 80s-90s. Ken Oldant and Clayton Rohrer both appeared on Star Trek: The Next Generation in central roles. Tom Wilson, of course, was in the Back To The Future franchise. Deborah Foreman had a steady career appearing in both the original Valley Girl and making a cameo in the 2020 remake. Jay Baker is another Star Trek alum, having appeared on Deep Space Nine. His acting career may not have been as extensive as his castmates in this movie but he's fairly well known in the industry behind the scenes as a producer, director and writer.

The girl at the end who "sliced" Muffy's throat was Nan, the girl who was upset over the abortion. It was her way of getting back at her.

This one always surprises people - not only in the fool, but in how good it is. It starts out as a low-budget low-intelligence slasher of the 80s, and then turns into one of the best horror movies where no one actually dies.
It always leaves the viewer with "Of course, they told you in the title is was APRIL FOOLS", but everyone falls for it.
It was fun seeing the same expression on your face as the character in the movie at the reveal of everyone is alive.
You have to give credit for the inspiration of this, Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None" which was made into the movie "Ten Little Indians" (the novel was better, and that's coming from a preferred movie watcher).
This movie used a lot of people's exposure to the one-by-one bump-off of an isolated group, who-is-doing-it, evil twin, last girl standing who figures it out; to pull a big April Fools joke on the audience - very clever. The misdirection of having the short, simple, funny pranks being pulled-off to bring down the audience's guard and suspicions was geinus; and those pranks were from the old lame ones (lke the dribble glasses) to the very inventive ones.
Did you think yourself clever for figuring out the mystery earlier than the "last girl standing"? I did when I saw it back in the 80s. As soon as the letter about the escape from the institution was found, I said "see, that's not Muffy that has been acting all wierd and crazy; that's her twin sister whose taken Muffy's place."
Now I have to remind you that I recommended this movie to you years ago.
Here's a longer list than then:
    Where Eagles Dare(1968)
    Eddie and the Cruisers(1983)
    April Fools Day(1986)
    Total Recall(1990)
    The Pink Panther(1963)
    2001: A Space Oddessy(1968)
    No Way Out(1987)
    Night Of The Comet(1984)
    The Thomas Crown Affair(1968)
    Logan's Run(1976)
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly(1966)
    The Sting(1973)
    Wargames(1983)
    Planet Of The Apes(1968)
    The Great Escape(1963)
    The Last Starfighter(1984)
    Murder By Death(1976)
    The Andromeda Strain(1971)
    Dirty Harry(1971)
    The Bad News Bears(1976)
    Blade Runner(1982)
    The Magnificent Seven(1960)
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid(1969)
    The Dirty Dozen(1967)
I think you've now done a number of these. This movie was 3rd on my list, so you need to get to the first 2 which are amazing movies.

OMG, this is one of my favorite Horror films from the 80s, and I am so glad you watched it! When I show 80s Horror movies to friends, this one pops up often. I'm usually not a fan of these kinds of endings (or the "it's all a dream" endings), but it was appropriate for this film. They attempted to remake the movie in 2008, but I never watched it, and based on reviews I'm kind of glad I didn't. Deborah Foreman was a good actress, and you should definitely watch her in Valley Girl. She did another Horror film in 1988 called Waxwork which was also great (well, until the very end), that you should check out as well. I'm looking forward to you watching Ratched as I've had it on my Watch Later for some time but haven't gotten around to watching it yet. Perhaps your reaction will be the push that gets me to finally watch it.

This movie had actors from "Valley Girl" (Muffy in this film), The blonde who was one of the brunt of the joke was the final survivor of Friday the 13th Part 2. The guy she was with is also in Summer School (he was the guy always sleeping). There weren't any big stars in this movie, but a few from the 80's outside of the Horror/Teen Comedy genres.

I saw this at the theater when it came out and wasn't sure how it would play out until the murders started kicking in. Then seeing Muffy act strange was when I thought something was up. I didn't see the Muffy & Buffy reveal coming but when it did it launched the movie into full gear. The parlor scene at the end is amazing when they finally realize everyone was in on it. Good to see you review this 80's horror classic. It totally gets no credit as a great "whodunnit?" flick.

The dude with the knife is Griffin O'Neal, son of Ryan O'Neal in which you have seen him in What's Up, Doc?
7:30 That's Biff Tannen from Back to the Future movies, Thomas F. Wilson. And the final girl is the final girl from Friday the 13th part 2, Amy Steel.

It turns out I've spent a couple of years waiting for this month. You've spent all this time letting your subscribers choose what they want you to watch, and in the process, you've learned more and more about the movies. Your innocence on the subject of motion picture entertainment may have filtered away, but the freshness and originality of your personality has flourished wonderfully.
It's time for you to take the reins and make your own choices of titles to review. It means your hitting material that's unique to your channel; as are YOU.
That's important now, because those of us who are here and really with you now aren't here to watch the movies, we're here to enjoy watching you watch the movies. You're the attraction.
You have become your own Star, and I couldn't be happier. 🦇💜🎉💯

As Hollywood legend Louis Gossett Jr has just passed away this past weekend (Saturday, March 30, I think it was), and it is Ashleigh's custom to watch a movie starring an actor who has recently passed away, i would like to suggest some Louis Gossett Jr movies to choose from.
    1) An Officer And A Gentleman (a tear jerker, BRING TISSUES)
    2) Iron Eagle II (she's already seen the first one)
    3) The Punisher (1989, starring Dolph Lundgren)
    4) El Diablo (also starring Anthony Edwards, aka Goose from Top Gun)
    5) Diggstown (also starring James Woods and Oliver Platt)
    6) Toy Soldiers (also starring Sean Astin and Will Wheaton)
    7) Enemy Mine (also starring Denis Quaid)
If there's any other movies you want to suggest, please do so.

I saw this in the theater, and it's still fun. Although if you think about it for a second there are a million plot holes. A guest at her B&B would know it's a fake. In her test version someone could be hurt or killed by accident. And how did they know someone would be on the boathouse floor to see the corpse floating past? And how could they know someone would climb down the well? And you'd have to be insane to get in the water between a boat and the dock. And why was the "sheriff" apparently calling from the actual hospital? And so on. It's wildly improbable. With that being said, I still think it's fun - especially if you've never seen it before.

That box thing across his shoulder was a battery pack and camera monitor. Back in the 80's this was high tech.
Making people miss their mouths is easy when there are hidden holes in the champagne glasses rims.
Exploding cigars are a classic joke made popular in cartoons.
The girl at the end was the baby crying ab**tion girl. She had to get even.

OMGosh! So excited to see this title. I love this movie. Deborah Foreman should have had a much bigger career. Some of her other films...My Chauffeur and Valley Girl. Both 80's movies...lots of stuff that would likely be considered inappropriate today...still funny.
My opinion...April Fool's Day is one of the best campy horror films.

I'd say, Ken Olandt was pretty "famous" in his day.
Mostly for his appearances in TV series, though.
But there's two other movies with him, that are worth a watch:
    - "Summer School" (1987)
    and
    - "Leprechaun" (1993) - which you watched already, of course - as your reaction shows. :)
Deborah Foreman also played in another 80s flick _(at the side of a 19 yo Nicholas Cage):_ "Valley Girl" (1983)
And Amy Steel was of course the "final girl" in "Friday the 13th - Part 2" (1981).
So - yeah...a few "known" names in here _(for those that watched movies in the 80s, anyway)._
Edit: oh, and of course Tom Wilson - aka: Biff Tannen, from the "Back to the Future" trilogy.

The original ending was very different, in which the characters really were dead, but that ending tested poorly, so they changed it and added the "surprise" ending, which I think did make this slasher a lot more unique, but the odds of getting everyone to go right where she needed them to go for each fake kill, then convinced to go along with the prank seems way too unlikely, with way too many variables for a small group to pull off so quickly. 7:22 I love that Ashleigh perfectly called that.

If you had seen My Chauffeur or Valley Girl, you would have received your recommendation to watch this movie. Deborah Foreman was iconic in the 1980's, with My Chauffeur being her best movie. With a rotary-style phone we didn't dial 9-1-1. We simply dialed 0 for the Operator. Once the 9-1-1 system was fully implemented, touch tone phones had replaced the rotary, but you could still dial 0.

The girl at the end who "cut" Muffy's throat was the one with the baby crying tape getting back at her.
I have heard of this, my parents when they had cable recorded a lot of movies from around that time and this was one of them there's also another April fools day horror movie called Slaughter High and if you're interested in the hidden twin thing I'd suggest The Dark Half, an adaptation of a Stephen King book.
