After 9 years in the military and 10+ years as a black out drunk after, cannabis saved my life. Sober for 3+ years and my life is way better. It is the only thing that helps my PTSD. I do love me some cannabis.

Glad you found some peace in the green. So much healthier than poisoning oneself with alcohol.
Not fond of feeling high but cannabis saved my life during chemo. They tried giving me synthetic cannabis pills, but when you puke up even water, that didn’t make a lot of sense. 14:55 A "Lid" was an indefinite amount of grass that was measured by: as much grass as the dealer can pile onto a coffee can lid before it starts to spill off.
Usually 2/3 to 3/4 of an oz.
A double-dime is twenty dollars.
So when My Boy Curtis says, "I'll let you have the whole lid for a double-dime" he is saying, "I'll let you have about 3/4 of an ounce for only $20."
The OGs of Stoner films hands down. Legends
When one of my family was dangerously ill, it was very stressful. We found that watching a Cheech and Chong movie each night gave us laughs in the middle of worry, and relieved our stress for a little while. I will always be grateful to them for that. Thanks for choosing them for your reaction.
Cheech & Chong's 1973 comedy sketch "Basketball Jones featuring Tyrone Shoelaces" gave the world the phrase "jonesing."

I saw Cheech and Chong do a show in a dirt floor arena in Anchorage, AK back in 1978/79. They said that they were doing scenes from their movie that they were working on so they wouldn't have to do "this shit" anymore. The whole place was filled with smoke because someone in the front row lit up a whole bag of the devil's lettuce at their table. Chong said to them,"I wanna see you after the show". ❤🤍💙
This makes me feel old, but I remember listening to cheech and chong records as a teenager.
"and a little bit more for Santa Clause..."
Yeah me too.

“I got a basketball jones oh baby ooh-ee-ooh”

Cheech and Chong (individually, as opposed to Cheech & Chong the comedy duo) are both musicians as well as comedians and actors, and they met in Canada early in their respective careers. Cheech Marin moved from LA to Canada to escape the Vietnam draft and met Canadian Tommy Chong in 1968. Chong had previously had some small success in the music business with a number of bands, with perhaps his biggest success at that point, a Billboard #29 song with The Vancouvers called "Does Your Mama Know About Me". Marin, after college, had auditioned unsuccessfully for Frank Zappa's band The Mothers of Invention, and when he didn't get the gig, he went to Canada at that point and met Chong soon after. While touring with the band, Chong had been inspired by The Second City improv troupe, and he eventually decided to start his own improv group associated with the hippy counterculture, as well as continuing his musical ventures. Then, after having met Cheech, they found a connection with their music and their sense of humor. One evening, as a duo, they were warming up an audience for Chong's new band, but because of the audience reaction, they never left the stage, and that was the beginning of new comedy duo Cheech & Chong in the early 70's. Although they may not have started the "stoner" movement, which had some origins from the beatniks of the 50's and then the counterculture movement of the 60's, they are probably considered the godfathers of the movement, or perhaps at least its dirty uncles.
It was Bobby Taylor and the Vancouvers, and they were signed by Motown.
Yes, it was Bobby Taylor & the Vancouvers, and they were signed by Motown, thank you for clarifying that. I don't know about any other releases but "Does Your Mama Know About Me" was originally released on Gordy Records, which was a subsidiary of Motown, and Gordy personally produced the song.
"She's having a Spiritual Experiment"" 🤣 You are HIGHLARIOUS!! Awesome! 🕊️☮️
Spiritual Experiment, Spiritual Experience. Same thing in this case.
I have to admit that was a lot of fun. As someone who's had plenty of experience in my younger days I had forgotten how much silliness it can bring and how wonderful that is.
The way you talk is adorable never change it.
Everything aged well in this. It was funny then and funny now.
And my friends always had weed to smoke it back then and middle of 1970s years and on up in years.
Cheech and Chong driving around in a desperate search for weed while hotboxing the entire town with their van really encapsulates their stoner story.
Fun fact. Strawberry is the Dad in Steel Magnolias.
And the captain in _Alien_ and Drumlin in _Contact._

No that’s Leo man
When Cheech asks "how's my driving?" And Chong goes "I think we're parked man" I die laughing every time 😂
All of the scenes, even the Alice Bowie performance of *Earache My Eye,* were stuff that Cheech and Chong had been doing onstage as comedy skits for years, so they needed no dialog rehearsals which worked out really well with all the pro movie actors seeing them as guys who knew the script and were ready to work, and it helped keep the budget low with minimal retakes.
Trips me out how both of them left their house one morning and never went back

Tom Skerrit (strawberry) was Shelby's dad if you've seen Steele Magnolias, and the one cop you were undecided on is Stacey Keech. Both men are well known, and really successful actors. This is early in their careers, they have tons of roles under their belts.
Tom was also in the first Alien movie with Sigourney Weaver.
Also in Top Gun

Next in order would be:
"Cheech and Chongs Next Movie" (that's the actual title), then
"Nice Dreams", and then after that they kind of go down hill somewhat.
Anyways, keep crushing it!
Definitely watch the sequel, Next Movie!
It's just as funny!
Nice Dreams was always my favorite
Next Movie is fantastic. But the TV edit is strange as hell. It replaced the references to the bag of weed as it being a bag of diamonds. Makes the ending even more bizarre.
Next Movie is my favorite too 🎉
Next Movie is worth it just to see... uhh... the concierge. Please nobody spoil it.
Nice Dreams includes their classic protest song (I think that’s how Cheech introduces it) “Save the Whales”. Funky Mama.
"What we have here is failure to communicate!" 🤣

"Some men, you just can't reach. So you got what we had here last week. Which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it. I don't like it, anymore than you men."
24:26 That's my name! I love this movie!
I watched this scene a lot when I was younger...
So this scene was not an old skit but something they wrote immediately before shooting.
Zane Buzby, playing Jade East, told this story exactly as she tells it, here, during lunch and the leg cramp idea just came up from Chong, and then Cheech figured out what he should be doing outside, and Lou Adler figured out how to shoot it all to give the guys a greatly triumphal entrance to make them already heroes to all the punks before they ever appear onstage; and it was all on first takes because it was great but they also had the rest of the day's planned shoot.
Zane Buzby was the first person who auditioned and she was the only one who could recite three single-spaced pages of nonstop dialog after one read-through.
Loved this so much. 😂😂 And yes please watch them all!!
Cheech and Chong were a comedy team who put out a number of albums. "Dave's not here." Later on Cheech has a pretty decent acting career under his full name (Cheech Marin). I don't know much about Chong, except his daughter -- Rae Dawn Chong -- was also an actress, who did one movie with Arnold.
Chong did "that 70s show" for a while, then he was sent to prison for selling bongs
He did a series of documentaries, mainly focusing on his legal problems.
Los Cochinos is one of the greatest comedy albums ever. Pedro and Man at the Drive-In is an all-time skit 😂
Never should've eaten those Rosarita refries! Lol. Love Basketball Jones@@reservoirdude92
Long before pairing with Cheech, he was part of a music group called Bobby Taylor and the Vancouvers.
The best one in my opinion is "Cheech & Chong's Next Movie", especially one scene in particular that gets me laughing till I cry every time I see it; the scene in question takes place in a welfare office is all I'm going to say.. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Agreed 👍
I think they’re Iranians! Speaks to a different time.
Ain’t that a peach?

100% their best movie
Just the first few minutes of stealing the gasoline gets me rolling. And rolling.
In 1978, both the preview trailer and movie posters stated "Do not go straight to this movie". A double-dime is 20 dollars, so a "dime" would be ten bucks. In the late 70's, you could get a small baggie of weed for $10, known as a 'dime bag'. Or so I've heard.
Bit like the slang we had around the U.K. during the 80's and '90s.You could usually get a "teenth" of "soap bar" for a "fiver". (That is: One sixteenth of an ounce of cheap quality hash for just £5.)
*Soap bar was so ubiquitous to low income/unemployed youth stoners that Goldie Looking Chain, an infamous Welsh rap crew, wrote a song about it.
Thank you for this. It's been one of my favourites for 35 years.
Cheech Marin was one of the dock workers who saw the Titanic finally arrive at New York Harbour (72 years late) in Ghostbusters
Better late then never
"...to quote Jay and Silent Bob..."...I laughed out loud on that. I don't know if it's truly the case, but IMHO, you wouldn't have Jay and Silent Bob without Bill & Ted, and you wouldn't have Bill & Ted without Cheech & Chong.
And you wouldn't have had any of them without Laurel and Hardy
@@Lunch_Meat Yes there were quite a few duo acts like that, and I know I'm forgetting many, but perhaps you may go from Laurel & Hardy to Abbott & Costello, and then Martin & Lewis. Counterculture duo acts then started coming along with The Smothers Brothers and Rowan & Martin. Then on thru Cheech & Chong & the rest is history.
@@mikeking7710 and what a wonderful history it is! The comedic duo is a masterful art
@@Lunch_Meat Yeah, there are a lot of others too...like Gallagher & Shean, Burns & Allen, Hope & Crosby, The Two Ronnies, Burns & Schreiber, Mitchell & Webb, Key & Peele...etc., etc., etc.

Their comedy albums were pure gold.
You gotta laugh at everything. These 2 are timeless gems. They definitely influenced many, and plus left us with so many quotables still usedto this day. Great reaction.
My favorite quote from this movie is, “C’mon ice cream!”
I utter it every time I’ve gotta drop a deuce, especially if I’m backed up. 😂😂😂
It's for when you've eaten something spicy and you use ice cream to get rid of the spiciness of whatever you ate. Then, when you're on the can and it's burning, you say, "Come on, ice cream!"
You ate one o' them burritos too?
Back in the day (the 70's) a "dime bag" was 10 bucks worth of weed. A "double dime" is 20 bucks.
A dime bag is still 10 bucks worth - the difference being that when this movie was made, a dime bag worth of weed equaled an ounce. :)
@@VicEclecticano it did not. But bag was measured with two fingers for $10
4 fingers was an oz
@@claythornton1035 Shrug. It was for me.
And a "lid" was a measurement too, correct? Like your dealer had a coffee can full of weed and would sell an amount that covered the lid.

On the names, Richard Marin was given the nickname "cheech" by his uncle when he was a baby. Cheech is short for "chicharrón" which I believe is Spanish or perhaps Portuguese for pork rinds. And Thomas Chong is Chong's real name. His mom was Scottish and Irish, and his father was Chinese.
Okay well this is a perfect follow up to Deliverance!

The beetle in the beginning was loaned out by Jack Nicholson. It took them 1 month to make this movie.
