Thanks for another informative video. I like the MaxPeedingrods unit. But I've been very happy with my Pulsar GD400BN that I bought based on your recommendation. No electric start and no app but I don't really miss those features. Thanks again. Keep up the good work!
@charlesklaus6290 nothing wrong with that pulsar at all. Same engine, but the company asked if I could use this for a while to give it a shake down and see how it does. So far so good. Again I don’t need the extras but some people need it or want it.
But again I do like apps lol
I got the Pulsar GD400BN last fall for less than half the price of this unit, and it's basically the same engine/generator/frame, but without the control panel, battery and app. The fit and finish of the Pulsar is not top notch quality, but it's been running great on propane and has handled loads well. It's neat to see all of the new generators and new features that keep coming out. Keep up the great videos!
@@johnnysweekends It's interesting that it's the same "engine" as the Pulsar, but the manufacturers have a slightly different name. I wonder if it's a legal/risk thing to separate into 2 different companies for business purposes. Maybe 1 company makes the engine/gen, and then it goes to "finishing" or install into the enclosure, at another company. A video explaining those 2 different company names, would be interesting.

Honda was always the leader because of cheap Chinese engines could not compete with the Japanese. Seems in the last few years the Chinese have steeped up in the Engine game and Honda will fall behind if they rely on their name only and not be competitive in features and price.
We are not asking for much… factory dual fuel and a little more power on the suitcase models ..🤷🏼♂️

After a period of revising the Pulsar 4000 (GD400BN), would you still recommend it? You have been a great resource for RV gens. Have come across any portable generator enclosures to reduce the noise?
It’s still a great unit for light duty use and simple. I’m just starting the review on the new champion 4000 dual fuel.

@@johnnysweekends when would you recommend the gd400bn over the MXR4000gt? I kinda like the option for the wife to be able to auto start if needed but that’s my only real want compared to the pulsar that I can tell.
@daniellaney3946 I like simplicity but do like data, so the app is cool. I don’t need the electric start really but it’s a cool feature. But those do add a couple extra pounds and the possibilities of things to maybe go wrong.
They both use the same engine the pulsar and gt4000.
So it depends if you want a feature packed unit. Although it does say limited time sale…amzn.to/4dVX7K5

I love my EU2200i with BLuetooth but it's a bit marginal for running my A/C reliably, even with a Micro Air Easy Start.
Great review. Propane, price, and power seems to trump Honda 'perfection'.
It’s hard not to like the options out there.
Is it bad to run a generator at 70-80% of its max power for many hours?
You are just going to shorten engine life by always running higher harder loads. Plus fuel efficiency and runtimes drop a lot after 50%
Any chance you have a lithium bank on that RV and we’re charging the batteries? If so, any chance you have specs of how much lithium and how long you had to run each generator to recharge?

Any longer term updates on the 4000GT - can get one right now for 1100 cdn really on the fence..:
I only have a little over 8 hours
I lend them out when I can but have to many to keep testing
So many options -so tough to pick! Going back and forth between a cheap dual fuel for propane/portability or a good used honda 3000is for the quietness… I would mount on the front of my travel trailer…

Is the 1 gallon fuel tank standard for generators in this size category? Seems awfully small. 30 min run time without the extra tank?
It’s a little over a gallon but a larger fuel cell required to make the generator bigger and it will be heavier when full

Generators of that'd size can run 6 - 8 hours on a 1/4 load (800w)
What are you getting for run time? At 1500w I’m only getting about two hours. Running a van ac and fan.
Manual says 4 hours at 50% load. So yea. On reg gasoline 2 hours is about right.

I don't know about the reliablity of some of these Chinese generators and also if you'll be able to get parts in 5 years when they stop working. I have a 11 year old honda eu2000i that still works like it is brand new. Project Farm did a oil analysis on a lot of these small generators and the honda scored at the top with the chinese ones at the bottom with lots of metal in the oil after running them a short amount of time.
Todd tested two units with the Honda. Total of 3.
Many are getting into the 1000s of hours with these units. Alaska preppers use the predator 2000 now because Hondas were not worth the down time and repair cost when they could just go buy a new unit and have spare parts ready
@@johnnysweekends The Predator engines are the actual Honda "clone" engines, which is probably why they are so good. Many people call all Chinese engines as Honda clones, but it's only the Rato ones, that actually are, as far as I know.
I agree, as Honda parts (and parts diagrams) are easy to get. However, I was able to contact Pulsar and they emailed me a PDF parts list and lo-resolution diagram. Unfortunately none of their part numbers seem to work in Google and there are no real websites to buy these parts (yet) but Chongqing Dinking seems to be making so many of these units under various "brands" that I'm hopeful that if I need any parts in the future, that I should be able to find them. It may take a little more digging for me to find and buy the parts, but I think they will be available.

Honda is not what it used to be, we use a lot of their Gx160 motors for 20+ years now and the would last 5-7 years average, in recent years they they last 2 at best 3 years, the conditions never change, we just throw dozens of then in the bin with only a few years on them now.
What do you do or using them for? How many hours or so per gen before they die?

Honda doesn't make a GX212. The Chinese do...that's what powers the Predator 3500, along with a host of other Chinese engine-powered generators.
