ask me how to build a functional lifesize Gundam
Yes. More Gundam.
Yes. More Gundam.
Yes. More Gundam.
Yes, Gundam. More.
Yes. More Gundam.
Yes. More Gundam.
That was so much fun. A huge shout out to Norm and Tested for taking the time to chat about my latest Gundam build.
🎉
nice work dude
Never thought I'd see you on the channel! What a pleasant surprise
Beautiful as always Matt.
Glad you got some recognition.
Great interview Matt!
I see Sazabi, I click.
Same here!
Now I want to see his Nightingale/Nu Gundam/HWS builds
Me too!
While the work on this kit is gorgeous, I do want anyone thinking this is anything near “normal” GunPla to not worry. This is like, the furthest extreme level of it. You can get deep into GunPla building and never need to worry about sanding or masking or any of that if you don’t actively want to go down that road. Don’t let the insanity and complexity of this build put you off.
Exactly, that's why I talk about it and how easy it is to get into Gunpla.
@@mvm3897Gunpla is freedom.
I just built my first gundam kit. I didn’t have power for a week because of a hurricane. So I went to the hobby store to get my family some stuff to do cuz no phones or tv. It was a lot of fun. I love how everything just snapped together without glue. Going to get some more for me and kids to build. I’ve never even seen the show(s).
Edit: it was XXXG-00W0 WING GUNDAM ZERO
Yup. 👍
I’m into gunpla, but my dumb brain won’t let me have fun with it anymore because I see every kit I build as wasted potential for something that could’ve been done better. If you share this mindset, no kit will ever be finished in your eyes
Mighty fine Sazabi. The designs in Char's Counterattack were just perfection. I normally favor Zeon design, but the Jegan and Nu look just as good as the Geara Doga and Sazabi.
Also the chonky Nightingale and Nu Gundam HWS from Beltorchika's Children
@@hitachicordobaand the psycho doga and the Re GZ too, man they hit it out of the park
Magnets use on any model is always tho most impressive part to be.
So simple as a final product but takes incredible craftsmanship to get right
The timing of this is perfect. I'm halfway through my first MG build and just getting ready to score some new panel lines before painting
Your scribing on your first mg!? Way to go dude
Which kit are you building?
@@conduit64 full armor ver ka unicorn
@@Gundumb_guy Thanks! Might go poorly but nows as good time as any to learn 👍
@@anonymouse2573 Wow, that is quite the kit to dive into the world of master grades with. Unicorn is awesome, have fun!
Evans designs are amazing out of Colorado and I think it’s a husband and wife duo with whatever crew they have are amazing. The response time and the detail of their emails are fantastic. They really are out there to help people. I sound like a sales pitch lol
I really want to see an Adam Gunpla weathering 1 day build. would be interesting to see him go to a store and pick out a kit he likes from the shelf and detail it in his own way.
Both Gundam and BattleTech have had a huge renaissance lately, the hobbies have never been more popular than they are right now. Pandemic, but also other big hobby companies like Games Workshop beginning to charge an arm and a leg for even a single tiny model, so people feel like they’re getting more bang for their buck with Gundam and BattleTech.
Love Matt, very helpful in the community and has a lot of content that can help you.
This video made me appreciate being the type of nerd that likes my Gundam battle scarred and chipped up. I do think a scene of a freshly rebuilt Gundam in a bay is a beautiful thing, but man; this is brutal.
If the art of airbrushing seems like a road you may now want to travel down, there are many talented people on the internet that offer their airbrushing services at varying levels from $ to $$$$ depending on what you're looking for.
Matt is a legend in the statue community too
Building simple snap kits as a kid, man i had no clue the work, time, effort and "sanding" involved. Looks incredible, fantastic job. Way cool.
That's one of the things I love about building these kits. You can go for a straight out of the box, simple build or you can customize and modify it to hell and back. All the extra time and care makes for a satisfying experience in the end. I've gained so much appreciation for suits I originally wasn't drawn to while watching the animes after completing a build. Great hobby.
@@possumlodge5368 and the more time, effort, sanding, and attention to detail, more satisfying work.
I just purchased an Eva Unit 01 kit (Neon Genesis Evangelion) and have started slowly assembling it. First serious, high quality kit I've done and love the engineering and precision, material that went into its design. Any Mecha is good
Matt got me into building Gundam! He's such a legend!
Gunpla is freedom!!!
Also, get Adam building another gunpla kit. That PGU build he did was an awesome video.
Adams RX78 got me interested in gunpla!
@@Foxkoun Char's Zaku next
Built my first Gundam since the 80s a few weeks ago. So satisfying.
For those who want to check out this mech in regular model kit form, this is the Sazabi from Gundam Char's Counterattack. It has 3 major versions, the HG, the RG and the MG Ver Ka. The HG is the cheapest but it's super simple. The RG is arguably the best version and is fairly affordable and it's quite complex. The MG Ver Ka is the largest, it's incredibly detailed and complex but it's the most expensive one.
This dude is a modern day Michelangelo, the amount of skill it takes to paint like that is insane
He also films most of it and posts on youtube.
Amazing work to watch.
If you think this guy is a master, check a japanese modeler called NAOKI. He's even done collaborations with Bandai/gunpla.
I love building Gundam, some of my favorite memories from growing up and I’ve even built one or two as an adult! They’re just badass
My MG red comet should show up this week. Can’t wait
Loving all the model hobby content!
Sazabi! Recently built a Real Grade Sazabi. One of my favorite designs.
Very clean build and that base is bonkers.
The level of detail is insane.
I got into Gunpla about a year and a half ago and I've recently started doing some custom projects. So these kinds of videos are fascinating to me.
Pia (from Sylphid team in Korea) now owns a company that is making a lot of prototype figures.
Most notably, a lot of Ironman suita.
And the best part is I'm actually building a RG Wing Gundam Zero EW right now.
Wow this so grand Matt!!! So great to see this hobby keep growing..
You can simplify the pre-shading process, by laying down a let's say brown or dark red base, for red. Then post-shade with a brighter red, as he does with white.
For whites, you can even use blue, purple, or stuff like that, to add some complexity and get some really nice shades.
Yeah, there are infinite ways to pre-shade and get some awesome results. I've used countless combinations of base colors and highlights.
I love Savage Gundam content man.
Next protag Gundam should be called the "Savage Gundam"
@@duckfilms3662 Perhaps the 2nd US design after the Legend Syd Mead's Turn A Gundam
Sazabi and its spiritual successor the Sinanju are among the very best and most iconic mobile suits of all time. And he has all those great macross variable fighters too. This gentleman is a man of class.
What a mastery! Impressive.
Man that Sazabi looks amazing.
I built the g system sazabi. If anyone else touched that thing id have a panic attack. Big shoutout to matt super nice guy and really got me into resin
Adam should make a diorama gundam build.
Sazabi was such a good choice to show off. Love that mobile suit.
"if you don't like to sand and mask don't do this" my king 👑
God damn that Sazabi looks amazing. Great work
Wow! This is so cool! I've never heard of resin gunpla before! Love Gundams!!!!
Gundam and gunpla are not my thing but wow do I appreciate the work of a skilled and experienced artisan. 🙂
You're video on the PG RX-78-2 is what got me into Gunpla!!
Yes yes, Gundam. Let's hear a little more about the Macross/Southern Cross/Robotech kit on display kplzthxbye.
The VOTOMS Scope Dog caught my eye as well
Great info he knows what he’s talking about 👌🏻
Had me at Gunpla😁
There's a pretty big difference hearing that there are over 400 parts and seeing over 400 parts laid out on a bath towel. Yowza!
You need to do more work with miniatures and dioramas. MORE GUNPLA!!!
I love kit bashing gundam
The Build Fighters anime gave me so many ideas!
Interesting, I never saw Build Fighters. With mine, think heavily damaged units missing limbs and replaced with junkyard parts.
If only Bandai would produce more PG gunplas. It is my favourite scale
More gunpla please!!
That is a beautiful Sazabi
I have this exact kit at home, but im afraid to start with it, because i dont have the skills yet :)
A reminder for gundam heads especially for those who wanna make custim kits. It gets expensive quick.
No lie. But worth it
@@Foxkoun oh absolutely. Making "your own gundam" is amazing. But kits are so expensive. My last custom was almost $1k
I guess if you really want it to but you don’t have to make it expensive. Imo the most expensive thing is a back log! If you don’t buy a ton of kits just to store it’s not crazy expensive until you get into resin kits. You can buy a small amount of paints to get you started, you can buy a good airbrush for 100 bucks now, and a decent set of nippers and basic tools will be under 50 bucks. All of which you can acquire over time. It takes me a while to finish a kit so I’m not pumping out 2 a month like some people though so it’s not crazy expensive for me. Any hobby can get expensive if you want it to and FOMO certainly makes things expensive tho!😂
I’ve been building and customizing gunpla for a few years now and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a build that costs 1k to make! I mean even if you buy an amazing work of art like a Kallamity kit it’s still a couple or few hundred dollars so wtf are you building!?!?
@Gundumb_guy my last build I needed some parts from kits that were discontinued. That was seriously like 80% of the overhead.
So random I just got my first bild gundum yesterday at hobby lobby on sell wing zero wing then this video comes up today
Oh my god Sazabi 😍
That Sazabi!😍
Great video norm sir 👏 😊
Awesome interview! Matt is a master in his craft! One of the greats!
Adam should be in more of these gundam/model kit videos considering how much he loved the PGU
How about we get a video of Adam kit-bashing a model kit into a mecha?
This couldn't have come at a better time. I'm about to scratch build a MG Virtue for a Megas XLR kitbash I'm working on.
I'm a simple man. I see Valkyries and a Sazabi, I hit "Like."
oh my god, This sazabi is really really good, I love it so much !
YES! ADAM! MORE. GUNPLA!!! you must
A shout out to Evan Designs on here too! Their LEDs are in a few of my kits, and every one I build I debate ordering more.
Been waiting for this since the PG RX-78-2 video. Lets go!!!
As a professional builder, I too, use nailclippers.
It would be cool to see Adam go further into a build like this with painting and customization instead of simply snapping a build together.
Fantastic job 👌
Beautiful work! Just wished they used green leds for the head
That Glaug was interesting. 'Too bad it was not featured. For a BattleTech player it is fun to remember that a properly-folded Marauder could fit in the cockpit of its inspiration.
Nice work Matt! And yes more gunpla please!
BACK WITH MORE GUNDAM WOOOO
that is one Beautiful Sazabi
That is a spectacular model ❤
MORE GUNDAM PLEASE lol
Just finishing an MG Dynames with Fortune Meow's resin kit. It was a monster, and not nearly the perfection of Matt's Sazabi. Would have liked a little on that Officers battle pod.
That Sazabi🔥
Hell Yeah! another gundam! I love Sazabi
time for adam to create an custom Gunpla model ^^ 😀
I built the world's largest Gundam hangar diorama. Its called Anaheim Electronics. It takes up an entire room and is 5 levels high.
What’s your IG then buster brown!?🤔
@@Gundumb_guy gunndamn_kitbasher
just wow! thank you for this, my eyeballs really needed that!
Who asked
@@Zanzibar354 i did!
I want that kit!!!
Amazing Matt! cheers!
I see Gundam, I press like.
Incredible
My builds are of course nowhere near this clean, but I think if you want high efficiency, I think you can keep masking and sanding to a minimum while still having great results. You don't have to shy away from elaborate weeks long builds just because you don't like these 2 steps.
More gundams!!
I hate that I got to the b-roll of scribing panel lines, and unconsciously blew on the screen to clear away the shavings.
I may need to take a break from modeling for a bit

Amazing, beautiful work.
That is a gigantic ultrasonic cleaner lol
That Battletech's Marauder is so EPIC! :D

Macross/Robotech Zentradi Officers Pod/Gulag first. 😉
there's a Catapult, looks to be a 3D print of the MechWarrior 5/Online/HBS BattleTech version on the table to the left of frame and I really want them to go take a look. As well as a closer look at all the Macross kits there.
Battletech stole the design from Shoji Kawamori.
@@taylordiclemente5163 FASA actually licensed the Macross, Dougram and Crusher Joe art from a company called Twentieth Century Imports, who had import licenses for many lines of Japanese model kits.
By the time of the lawsuits between FASA and Harmony Gold in the 90s, TCI were long-gone and as such FASA had only shakey ground on which to justify their continued use of the art, and decided to discontinue use of any external artwork following these legal issues.
The further complicate issues, Catalyst Game Labs, BattleTech's current publishers went to Big West and Sunrise around 15 years ago and did obtain licenses to use the art again. But upon doing so were presented with a sealed agreement by Harmony Gold preventing them from using the Macross art. While there was continuity between FASA and CGL, nobody still with the game was privy to the details of the legal wrangling in the 90s and as such had no idea of the sealed agreement.
And it's worth noting that when CGL, Piranha Games and Harebrained Schemes redesigned the Macross mechs to bring them back to prominence in the games, Harmony Gold sued them about it anyway, and lost this time.
I’ve been waiting to see Adam weather his PG unleashed!!!
Love me a good GUNPLA vidya
I see Sazabi in thumbnail and I click
I really want to look at the Marauder next to it.
those are very beautiful resin kits if only i had the skill and patience for it
